Geauga Lake to remove a "Classic Ride"

As much as I love 1st Gen towers, Mr Hyde is definitely a p.o.s. I'd hate to see it go (probably for some awful S&S creation) but I can see the logic in that. I can also see the logic (and one that I'd like to think is more likely) in removing the flume. The thing is ugly as sin, it's location is horrible and if there were ever crowds again, it'd cause a huge bottleneck. It's not that much of a flume to begin with, and there's going to be much more water focus on the other side of the park. I'll put my slightly biased vote in for the flume.

Should I be happy to have gotten a ride on Hyde on my trip to GL then? Ouch!

Why do I think a trip down a hillside with Bam Margera in a shopping cart would involves less bumping and banging than those horrible first-gen drop rides...doesn't stuff have to at least be FUN to be called "classic"? ;)

You know how Screamscape sources are.... always vague, but with a hint of truth.

I'll put my money on the Monorail...unfortunatly. Its station is a big structure in the middle of their future expansion, its a classic ride, it has problems (though it can be fixed) ridership is low, and its the last of it's kind in the states.

The Wheel won't go anywhere, it had a lot of money put into it this year, and I don't think it's Double Loop. That ride is nearly problem-free.

Hydes should just DIE
Time Warp should go as well

I think rerouting the monorail to the Wildwater Kingdom side would be an great idea. It takes forever to walk over there. And most people park on the Geauga Lake Side. I can almost say that Big Dipper or Double Loop wouldn't go because they are... classics. Although the topic suggest they are getting rid of a classic. If anything, it would be Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall, because it's old and crappy (Although it was fun a few years ago). And is the Go-Karts doing any good? Because X-Flight seems out of the way to get to (This Picture says it all: http://www.rcdb.com/ig920.htm?picture=10 ), they should get ride of the go-karts and that flat ride (whatever it is these days), and rework the X-Flight enterence. And a S&S Tower would be great. But because of there location I don't think they can go too high. I COULD be wrong, so don't quote me.
Weren't there rumors years ago that the Double Loop would be removed and moved to Wyandot Lake? Obviously, that was during Fun Time/Premier/Six Flags ownership of both parks, so that's not really an option now. However, it just shows that this ride has been rumored to be leaving for a long time, yet it remains in operation at GL...

I haven't seen Mr. Hyde operating in the last three years at least. (Of course, I don't recall seeing Demon Drop operating recently either, but I haven't really been looking...) *** Edited 6/29/2005 12:36:41 PM UTC by JZarley***

I believe that rumor was for Geauga Lake's Corkscrew. And I don't much is going to happen at Wyandot Lake until after the rerouting of Powell Road is finished.
Yeah, you're right--it was the Corkscrew that was rumored to move to Wyandot (not the DL).

Actually, I don't think much will happen with Wyandot Lake until SF no longer owns it <g>

The Merry Oldies car ride will go.
I can't see them chucking the log flume.
The Space Needle has a shot at leaving. It hasn't run right in years.

2Hostyl the accident at SFGam did not result in any deaths.

You dont read things all the way through do you? Note that in my post script I signed of "jeremy (who knows nobody died on The Edge)". Still, that doesnt change the fact that if you ask Chitown people, they will tell you that people died. Urban legend or not, that is what people believe.

Merry Oldies are safe. They spent a lot of $$$$ refurbishing and painting them this year as well.
Villain. We can only hope.
Oddly enough, the monorail(although very slow), Space Needle and Hydes have been operational all three visits I've had this season.

1. What I would Like to See Go: Villian and Double Loop--but wont happen, would free up a large chunck of land.

I see skyscraper and the monorail going. maybe even mr hydes. With the water park being moved over the lake that frees up a lot of land...especialy if they get rid of Head Spin also. Just think of that huge chunk of land that would become useable. All those rides, with the exception of the monorail, are pretty much defunct as it is.

It will be the monorail..........they do not want that thing traveling over and showing off a empty water park.

I also think some high level management may be removed if attendance doesn't pick up.

What is wrong with Villian that PTC trains would not fix? Even the best maintained coaster would feel painful using those cheap Gerstlauer trains.

As for freeing up a large chunk of land... so would removing Raging Wolf Bobs.

While not doubting this... I do wonder why attendance is so low. This seems like a nice park, with a solid (if not record breaking) line up of rides. Things seem to be run efficiently. Why the low attendance?

Location? Though close to Cleveland, kind of off the beaten bath or competion from CP and PKI (which doesn't make sense, since in PA, NJ and MD Hersheypark, Dorney Park, SF Great Adventure and SFA are all in a similar proximity and none of them seem to be struggling)?

History? Memory of the fiasco known as Six Flags Ohio / Six Flags Worlds of Adventure? How was attendance at the old Geauga Lake before Six Flags moved in compared to how it is now that Six Flags moved out and CF moved in?

The only ride for which the 'freeing up a bunch of land' argument would work is the Bellaire Express.

GL and Sea World were doing okay as stand-alones. When 6flags bought GL, the second year attendance seemed to pick up. When they bought Sea World, things were starting to take off and weekends they were swamped.
Last year and this year, ziltch for crowds.
Last year, they said their busiest day was when Progressive was having their corp picnic there. (they rent out the park for that event and it's closed to the general public.)
I went by there last weekend, (saturday) and their parking lot was full! I couldn't believe it. Then my girlfriend told that the Cleveland Clinic Foundation was having their picnic that day. That would explain the full lot: CCF probibly had 15,000 people show up.
I have no idea why they aren't busier. Doesn't make sense.

I think some of it has to do with people don't realise it is open.

I have heard, more than once, people saying they wished that Six Flags was open. They don't understand that Geauga Lake IS the old Six Flags.

No joke either. I couldn't understand how they didn't know, but they didn't.

Don't worry about attendance yet. It is still early in the seaon.

I hope they get Phase 2 of the waterpark done on time next year, it hurt them a bit.

I don't think SeaWorld was doing very well. Weren't they giving away season passes for the cost of one day admission or some such crazy deal?
I visited Geauga Lake two weekends ago and it was swamped. There were at least two company picnics taking place. But even being swamped, the lines were not unreasonable. They still fit well within my 10 minute or shorter threshold.
