Gay?

". . . this is totaly wrong to be dicussing this on this website. . . i have nothing against them accept for when you bring convorsations like these into this inviromentn where it is not needed."

This thread was started by someone simply asking if he was the "only one" that loved rollercoasters and if there were others like him. Similar threads were started when one person felt funny by going to parks by themselves, another one started because a person felt self-conscious about their weight. I am amazed that this topic is ruffling so many feathers.

He wasn't asking what you thought about his being gay. He only wanted to know if others like him were out there.

Why don't you stop judging and find another thread in which to contribute?

Hey son of Beast!! 15 year olds should be able to spell better than that and if you can that is why Jeff put a spell check on the site!

BTW - Straight and happily married. I don't hold the first thing against gay people. Why do some of you people have a problem with this thread? Gay people are everywhere. Maybe someone in your neighborhood is gay. With that said, what makes you think that the coaster community wouldn't have any gay people in it? Gay people are as much a part of the coaster world as they are part of the real world.

What is life without ups and downs!?!?
I never have been against gay people...my parents have always taught me tolerance; however, growing up in a small town, I was never exposed to a gay person and therefore, I believe I was always a bit afraid of what a gay person is and does...

and then I went to college...

And thankfully, I met some people who I later learned were gay, and learned the truth about gay people. Yes, they DO know how to have fun. I am so grateful that I have met not only gay people, but also people of other religions and cultures...it is great to be able to truthfully say, "I accept and love all humans for who they are."

Personally, I don't believe being gay is wrong, but even if it was, how can a gay person help it??? That is a question all the homophobes in the world should think about. And if a person is gay and loves coasters, then they are better in my book than the majority of the population.

Sexual preference really doesn't matter folks...

Coasters...the best natural buzz available.
This is sooo cool. I never would have thought that so many coaster lovers were gay. It really makes me look back on my life and see EVRYTHING in a whole new perspective. I am a gay coaster enthusiest and I never saw a connection between the two. Thank you for this wonderful thread!!!
This thread gets a big thumbs up. When I saw this topic posted I was expecting a bunch of homophobes pop up, but it seems as though that really isn't the case here.

And that was an extremely well made point, Peabody. *thumbs up*

Don't touch the watch.
I am glad this topic is going in a positive direction. I closed it yesterday because I was starting to see some negative comments. I applaud the positive statements now. I was given a different perspective by a couple of people as to why it should stay open and I totally agree with it. Heck, I didnt even know that Neil(fellow moderator) was gay. I guess we need to communicate better. Anyway, life is to short to hate others based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Bigotry is the downfall of this world.

The only reason you still see the thread is that we nuked all of the negativity (reason 749 why moderated forums are better). Believe me, there were all kinds of speeches and people renouncing CoasterBuzz as "immoral," etc., while others tried to start threads declaring they were straight.

In any case, carry on, and thank you for visiting the site.

As for coaster enthusiasts being gay, I can't see any connection. Enthusiasts are enthusiasts as far as I can tell. I agree that there is nothing wrong with this thread.

While I don't agree with the gay lifestyle (please don't take that as a judgment, it's only my opinion) I don't think any less of gay people. In fact my best friend of a few years and someone I'm still pretty close to is gay. We knew each other's thoughts and opinions but didn't let that influence how we viewed each other or anyone else. We were also open enough to discuss and often argue such "issues" without getting offended or judgmental -- that's how it should be IMO.

My friend gave me a stat once -- something like 1 in 10 -- on how many people are homosexual. For me that means I know or have known LOTS of people who are gay and just like everyone else. Just something to think about...
Its funny! We had one person about a month ago leave the site because we were discussing about alcohol(he claimed that he puked just reading about it) and then we had another leave yesterday because of this topic. It amazes me how people react to things. If you dont like a certain subject then just ignore it. 99% of this site focuses on the amusement park industry so it shouldnt matter to people what 1% of the subjects talk about.

Hey, if there's a good side to that, at least they're leaving the site instead of posting negative comments in the threads. If they don't like it that's their own business, but I'm glad they're not taking issue with it here.
I know, Chitown. In response to people leaving over this, I say what's the deal? If you disagreed and had some big moral opposition, and this was www.gaybuzz.com , I could understand. But, this is www.coasterbuzz.com , one bada** coaster site! 99.99% of what has and will be talked about is coaster/park related, so why let one little thread that upset you make you leave. It's silly!

I am also gay. I know lots of gay people and I really don't have anything in common with them. Most of my friends are straight. It's nice to know that there are many gay enthusiasts, finally some gay people that I have something in common with!
I remember a while back, a thread popped up asking if buzzer's were single or attached.

http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forums/thread.asp?ForumID=11&TopicID=4124

A few members reavealed that they were gay (myself included) and the direction of the discussions seemed to have remained subdued. Now when this subject came out into the wide open, it is interesting to see the vast array of responses (though some of the hateful ones are nuked.)

The really sad thing is, despite the fact that we now live in the 21st century, we are still surrounded by hate and discrimination. However, things are evolving. I remember being in high school in the mid 80's and had to keep my sexuality a secret, otherwise I'd face ridicule and torture. It was hard coming out to myself at the age of 12, and wondering why I was so grossly different. Surpressing those feelings was hard, and I understand why such a high rate of teen suicides are a result of this. It is a huge problem, one that cannot be ignored. I get the sense that despite society moving forward, bigotry remains.
Count me in, 16 and Gay. I agree with buzzo, it is nice to find some people who share something other than their love of Coasters with me.

Hmmmm, it seems like some people are annoyed because sexual matters are discussed on a board where there are 13-year-olds. If I were a parent, I would probably be annoyed, but seriously, what 13-year-old doesn't hear sex being discussed 24/7 at school?

But that's my point... no one is talking about sex. Just because someone is gay doesn't by definition mean they have gay sex. Just because I prefer the company of women doesn't mean by definition my goal is to have sex with women.

Peabody, I'll tell you why.
These people are dead against gay people. Call it programming, bigotry, ignorance, or what you want to. But the fact is, it will be next to impossible to change thier minds.
And the sad thing is, if they leave because they find out a gay person or people use a service, they are in for a big surprise. The fact is, for almost every service, there is every type of person using it. They may be another race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, or whatever, but almost every service has all of these groups. So, the people leaving here better do themselves a favor and leave thier work, school, all parks, the internet, all stores, everywhere, and just stay home!

My point is, they are leaving here because there are gays here, but so what? If they leave here because of gay people using it, they should leave everywhere, I guess.
