Gamespot has posted new screen shots from the forthcoming Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, headed for stores in October. The shots reveal more theme and construction objects, as well as new flat rides.
See the screen shots at Gamespot.
The fact is that I'm still convinced that this is not RCT 2, but how RCT 1 should have been.

GlitchCam Returns...if you thought the Subdivision Cam was something, wait untill you see this.
According to the general public, lots of coasters go straight down.

I still don't get this stuff about building a better graphics engine. Why? The one he has works just fine.
As for POV and 3D stuff, I think you grossly overestimate how realistic the rides would feel if you actually got on them.

Moosh, I don't think that's wishful thinking at all. I suspect there WILL be a ton of new flatrides in this game.
To the people who are "disappointed" -- nobody's forcing you to buy it. An all-new graphics engine would've pushed this release back even more, just the additions that ARE going in were a LOT of work. I'm very much looking forward to RCT2.

I am not one of the people who is 'disappointed'.
I was only stating the facts about how the gaming scene will see it. If you're into gaming as much as I have been, you'll know that the gaming community usually doesn't like a game labeled as a completely new version (ie. version 2) and sold as a new product, with a regular price tag, unless it's quite different. Budget priced add on discs are OK w/ them though. Or even free version updates (ie. to version 1.5) w/ free planes, cars, tracks, stadiums, maps, skins, weapons, levels, whatever. It happens often. The general coaster enthusiast will be happy no matter what though.
Jeff, there's always room for improvement. Current game engines work just fine, but thankfully developers still make them better, so the sequels are made. Quake 1 running on 3Dfx looked fantastic when it came out, but gosh, look at Quake 3. Unreal Tournament still looks awesome, but check out the Unreal II screenshots. Flight Simulator II worked fine for me, but Flight Simulator 2002 has come so much further and is so much more fun. GTTP and Coasterbuzz worked just fine for us, but you're making improvements.
If you had to choose between buying RCT 2, or an RCT that looked something like this, which would you buy? Eventually, RCT will probably look like this.
Also I might have missed this from someone but in the Medusa pic looks like you can now have windows. I'm not sure if someone stated this a wihle ago or not but o well. They are on the station of Medusa.
Can anyone figure out in the Top Hat Screen what that Neon Green topped stall is? Looks futuristic by the looks of the side walls. Then in same pic the purple walled building on the top right underneath the water button.
As in to reference to the side diagonal supports. I have a feeling there will be a section of theming to stack square supports and then the small diagonal piece at the top as another selection. Because they come as varied heights in the Rolling Thunder pic.
I also do like the new trains in the DeJaVu pic those are cool.

Raptor Pilot: I doubt the gaming community or scene will even care about RCT2, much as they pretty much ignored the first game. I don't think the game was made with hardcore gamers in mind.
Remember, this is the work of one man, an unheard of accomplishment in this day and age. The thing is written in assembly language for God's sake... do you have any idea how hard that is to read and write? It makes C++ look like BASIC on IBM's first PC in terms of how easy it is to write.
Part of the benefit there is speed. Keeping track of thosands of little peeps that have a "mind" of their own requires a whole lot of power. Passing off 3D rendering to a graphics processor is one thing, but dealing with that much logic you don't have that extra power.
The game engine, in my opinion, has been improved, and not with cosmetic changes. You can build scenery, block out rides (thank God), do wide paths for the little bastards without them getting lost, etc. The "look" of the game is perfect for what it's intended to be, and I wouldn't change a thing.

The engines worked, and Quake 3 still does, so the developers figured, 'why make a new one when this works? It'll be cheaper to get a license to use it instead of write our own, spending a lot of money on development of it.' Chris Sawyer is thinking the same way, why not modify his current engine a bit, rather than start from scratch and waste a lot of time? *** This post was edited by TrBiggar on 8/7/2002. ***
Not to mention that the enging HAS been significantly enhanced. It can not only support parks that are four times as large, but it can support hundreds of new items, and from what has been said, is MUCH more animated and smooth (more frames of animation, more animated objects, etc).
Peep AI is significantly enhanced. New coaster editor and scenereo editor. TONS of new items, new themings, and new engine capabilities (rounded path corners, blended terrain transitions, etc).
I guess I just don't get all this "whining" about the engine. It's signifiantly improved. This is definitely a 2.0 version in every respect.
And if you want to "ride your rides" go get that awful game "Sim Theme Park". You can ride your rides on that. Gee, it was fun and interesting for about the first thirty seconds. It adds almost nothing to game play and replay value. If that turns you on, then go get it. RCT2 is what turns ME on!
Oh yeah, CoasterGen... ;)

If you like Wicked Twister in the back, does that mean you like to get screwed in the rear?
I hope Best Buy will let you preorder it soon. Because I need to use some of my Best Buy cards and this game would be perfect to cut down on one or two of them.
