Top 5
1.) Beast 2.) Phantom's Revenge 2.) SROS (SFNE) 4.) SROS (SFDL) 5.) MF
1. How many horses are on the carousel? Also, how many of them are the original horses from when it was first built?
Purely an estimated guess. Best question on your list. I would guess 36, all original. But that is not the total of horses that belong to the carousel. PKI rotates 3 out per year for refurbishment as far as I know. There are also 2 "chariots" I believe. Funny, I think the carousel is the most beautiful item in the park and I have spent hours watching it and listening to it. But I never actually counted the horses. Do you know the history of it? It is an amazing story... but so long requires another post ;-)
2. Which is longer, SOB or both Racers put together?
Well, SOB is 7,032 feet long. I believe both sides of the Racer add up to just under 7,000 feet. Seems like each side is about 3,500 feet. So that would mean that SOB is longer.
3. What used to be where the Phantom Theater is now?
Well, until 1992 it was Smurf's Enchanted Voyage. Prior to 1983 (When the Smurfs were added and the ride was re-furbished) it was simply Enchanted Voyage with all Hannah Barbera charaters.
4. What is the old name for the Top Cats Taxi Jam?
It was added for 1992 and was originally called "Scooby Zoom" until 1998 when HB land was re-done and "Scooby's Ghoster Coaster" was added.
5. How many platforms are on the Eiffel Tower?
Hmmmm, sounds like a trick question. In actuality there are 4 platforms. 3 of those were originally designed as guest observation the 4th for asthetic and maintenance purposes only. Today only 2 platforms are used at the top of the tower. The other 2 still exist.
6. Two coasters in the park make only right turns. What are they?
Taxi Jam and King Cobra only make right turns.
7. One coaster in the park locks out everybody, including workers, from the station before dispatching the train. What is it?
Face/Off requires a clear station before the train is sent.
8. Which has a taller drop, Vortex or The Beast?
Beast. The drop to the helix is 141'.
9. Which has a taller structure, Vortex or The Beast?
Vortex has the tallest structure height measuring from the track to the immediate gound below.
10. Which coasters have lifts that are not visible from the top of the Eiffel Tower?
Because of the way they are situated, the lifts on Son Of Beast, Beast (lift #2) and Taxi Jam cannot be seen due to the vantage point being obstructed. Adventure Express' lift #2 is enclosed so it cannot be seen from the tower. Also this answer depends on the time of year. When the trees are full and thick, you cannot see all of lift #1 on Adventure Express.

The answer to # 1 is that there are 48 horses. fof 29 with in blocks got that one right. Although the park has 50 horses, 2 of them are refurbished every year. As for how many are original, the exact answer eludes me right now. It is somewhere between 3 and 6, and I am 70% sure that the answer is 4. Sorry about that, I'll try to remember it and post it later. The rest of them have fallen victim to floods (the Carousel has been through at least 1 flood, I think more, because it used to be at old Coney Island on the Ohio River), time, and guests (this year I witnessed one guest put a cigarrete out on one of the horses; this sort of thing is typical). And yes, Shaggy, there are two chariots as well. And maybe another forum COULD be dedicated to the Carousel, cause I'd love to learn more about it.
5. On the Eiffel Tower there are three platforms. From the ground it may appear that there are 4, but the middle one (above the 50' platform) is merely aesthetic and is not a platform at all; there is only a ring around the perimeter of the structure to give observers the impression that a platform is there (so that it looks more like the one in Paris).
6. Yes, I still do count King Kurva because it hasn't been sold yet, despite your claims to the contrary. But that's another forum.
For question 10, I was just thinking of Taxi Jam and Express, although I guess that technically you can't see Beast's 2nd lift from the top of the Tower because it is on the other side of the structure. And although SOB's lift is not visible straight on, you can watch the trains on the lift through the structure. And FOF does not have a lift hill, so it doesn't count.

After finishing my second season on The Beast ;) I know the answer to number 18 ---- the answer is "the Beast graveyard" and as of the last day, there were no more cables <wink> <wink> but there was some white racer wood and an old lift chain, thats it --- nothing that fabulous ;)
6. Part of the Bat still exists at PKI. No, I am not talking old footers, or the station or even that old box of Bat parts under the Vortex Que. I am talking about an intrigal part of the Bat that is still in use today. What is it?
Hmmm... maybe the lift? This is a wild guess though

Two or three sets
10. What made Keith Partridge "blow chunks" at King's Island in the Partridge family at KI episode?
Scrambler?
12. How much did Racer cost to build?
Well the park cost 20 million so I'd guess 3 million
13. What was the opening day attendance at PKI? And what date was that? What was significant about it?
The date April 15th, I think, and the year was 1972
15. What does the maintenance man in Phantom Theatre (the one holding the flashlight) say as you pass by him in the dark?
"Does anyone know where the light is?"

PKI only recieved three trains with the lap bars this year and thats all the park will ever have.
A little side not, FOF can only run 2 trains now because of the extra time it takes to check the restraints and because of other problems the ride experinced this year. The third train will just be an extra (back-up) train.

1. Name one of the two original "proposed" names for the park prior to "King's Island" being chosen from a name -the - park contest..
The original names proposed were "Twin Oaks" and "Kings Mills Park."
2. How many lions were originally a part of the "Lion Country Safari."
There were 50 lions when "Lion Country Safari" opened.
3. Who manufactured the skyride?
Von Roll of Bern, Switzerland manufactured the ride for Cincinnati's Coney Island in 1965. The ride was transplanted at King's Island once Coney closed. When moved, the ride was extended 300' in length. At it's highest point it stood 95'. The ride was dismantled prior to the 1980 season due to low ridership and unavailability of parts. The attraction made national news in 1977 when high winds caused it to jam, stranding passengers for 8 hours.
4. Name two celebrities that were once employed at Kings Island.
Carmen Electra of Baywatch was a dancer in a magic show in the early 1990's. Two members of the boy band "98 Degrees" (I don't listen to boy bands, so I have no idea of their names) were a part of a quartet that milled the park in the mid-90's. The two were fired by the park. Ironic, no?
5. The current head of operations at King's Island, Don Miller, has been at PKI since the park opened. What was his job when he first started?
Mr. Miller ran the Bavarian Beetle. It was a Schwarzkopf Galaxy coaster that resided where the Festhaus now sits.
6. Part of the Bat still exists at PKI. No, I am not talking old footers, or the station or even that old box of Bat parts under the Vortex Que. I am talking about an intrigal part of the Bat that is still in use today. What is it?
The access stairs used on Vortex's block brakes were once access stairs on the Bat.
7. What was the name of the aqua arena/dolphin stadium that resided at KI until recent years?
It was called "Saltwater Circus."
8. Who is credited with beginning the ACE walkback? And why?
The late Ruth Voss, King's Island's original Director of Public Relations, began the tradition. Mrs. Voss took a daily ride on Beast to help loosen her joints tightened due to authritis. In the early days of the Beast, Mrs. Voss got to know several original ACE members well and began to invite them back with her for early AM rides. She then made it an official tradition, one the park continues to this day in her honor.
9. How many guest exit/entrance doors are there on the Paramount Theatre?
There are 3 pairs of guest doors on 3 sides of the theatre. Thus there are 18 total.
10. What made Keith Partridge "blow chunks" at King's Island in the Partridge family at KI episode?
Keith, suffering from a weak stomach due to rides on the Racer, Eiffel Tower and Monster, lost it when Danny Partridge presented him with a messy chili-dog purchased from "Der Bier Garten" in Octoberfest. Keith ran heaving into the bathroom at the entrance to Coney Mall near Racer... just before a commercial break.
11. How many gallons of water do the International Fountains hold?
The Royal Fountains hold 500,000 gallons of water. The fountains, when originally built, were terribly over budget and ended up costing double the estimated $251,000.
12. How much did Racer cost to build?
Racer cost $700,000 to build.
13. What was the opening day attendance at PKI? And what date was that? What was significant about it?
King's Island "softly" opened on April 29th, 1972 and only had 4,000 guests. Why? It poured rain all day. The official grand opening was not held until May.
14. How many busses did Evil Keneval jump in King's Island's parking lot?
The answer lies in the question #. Evil Keneval successfully jumped 14 busses in the King's Island parking lot on October 25, 1975. He did it in front of 70,000 spectators.
15. What does the maintenance man in Phantom Theatre (the one holding the flashlight) say as you pass by him in the dark?
He says "Who's out there" "No one's allowed back stage." The animatronic figure speaks only when the lights are turned out as he shines a flashlight into rider's "Doom Buggies." When he stops speaking, the lights turn on to reveal the character throwing a switch on a breaker panel. The darkness was a clever way for the park to save $ by not having to animate the character's mouth.
16. What terrifying element in the Eiffel Tower Haunted House attraction (Fearfest #1) was deemed too frightening and complex by the park and was ultimately never used?
One of the metal floor panels was to be removed and replaced with thick plexiglass. Guests would have had to walk accross it, seeing nothing but the ground waaay below.
17. How many trains does Flight of Fear have?
Flight of Fear operated with 3 trains until the 2001 season. However, the ride was designed for 4 train operation. As of the close of the 2001 season, two trains were in use, a third was stored in the "drum" portion of the coaster's building. The fourth train still exists and is stored behind Timberwolf Amphitheatre. It is used for spare parts.
18. A hidden "storage" area exists in the "Beast" woods. What do employees call this area and what is stored there?
The area is known as the "Beast Graveyard." It has stored Beast cars, Beast wood, Beast bolts, Eiffel Tower cables as well as the reels for them. In 2001, the area stored the Beast lift chains that were replaced prior to the 2000 season. Because the Eiffel Tower cables were stored there for years, employees claimed that the ghost of "Tower Johnny" roamed the area looking for revenge. The rumor was that the steel tower cables were the ones by which his head was decapitated when he fell.
Don't you love urban legends? ;-)
19. In 1993 something was banned by the park? It didn't last too long, but what was it?
The sale of alcohol was banned the first year that the Paramount moniker was used.
20. KI dedicated Adventure Express to the memory of a beloved employee. Who was it, and what was their relationship with King's Island?
Robert Rinkel, a head of maintenance, passed away prior to the coaster opening in 1991. The park dedicated the ride to him and placed a plaque on a large stone outside the ride's entrance. It still exists today and is situated to the right of the main entrance to the attraction.
I hope you enjoyed reading these as much as I did sharing them!
