Former Kings Island and TOGO exec says he wouldn't be surprised to see King Cobra go

PKIGuide.com interviews Walt Davis, former Kings Island and TOGO executive, about the alleged pending sale of the park's oldest operating steel coaster, King Cobra. Davis says the park "talked about using that land for something else for the last ten years or so."

I've Heard its a good ToGo. Is it?

Out of the coasters i've ridden here is wat i rank them overall:(ive been to canobie lake and SFNE)
1. S:RoS 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Riverside Cyclone 4. Canobie Corkscrew 5. Thunderbolt 6. Galaxy 7. Mind Eraser 8. Dragon coaster 9. poison ivy's tangled
The man asks what Premier has been doing since taking over Togo. Hmmm, maybe retrofitting most of their coaster trains with lapbars?

Let's face it, the level of comfort we expect on coasters these days has increased quite a bit. If King Cobra rides anything like Shockwave at PKD, I don't think they'll be too many tears shed if it's taken out. *** This post was edited by Intamin Fan on 2/20/2002. ***

I haven't been on it in about two years, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Shockwave. I was shocked (-rimshot-) at how bad that ride really was.

In my opinion, the Cobra is a boring and painful ride.

As far as the Premier comment, I can tell you that it wasn't a general statement.  It was in regards to their oversight of TOGO attractions.

That Sean Flaharty is one crazy cat!
i've ridden both shockwave and king cobra.  i really thought that shockwave was much more uncomfortable than king cobra but also keep in mind that the comfort of the ride can greatly be influenced by how the restraint system is fixed when you board the ride.  often i get an uncomfortable ride on the king cobra simply because the ride attendant locks the ride to low and i'm stuck sort of kneeling a little bit but i have had enjoyable rides on the cobra when the restraints were properly adjusted to fit my body.
Yeah King Cobra is uncomfortable, but I actually think the ride is pretty good.  I will be sad to see it go (my guess is that this puts me in the minority).

Mr. Flaherty, heh. ;)

Maybe it's 'cause I'm skinny, but I've never felt one bit of discomfort on KC.  It's a great ride, especially in the back.  What do they think they're going to do with that land?  It'd have to be a mighty compact coaster to fit there - unless it was so huge that it extended *over* Son of Beast.

Judging by the tone of Mr. Davis, it almost seems as though there may be an axe for him to grind with Premier.

It mentions that he worked for TOGO until 1999.  That would be close to the same time when Premier took over the International operations of TOGO.

Hmmmm.... sour grapes?

Never the less, KC served it's purpose very well.  And when the time finally arrives for it to go...... it will still be remembered as a terrific and groundbreaking ride.

Now, one thing this article does not mention...... where the ride may be headed......

I agree... given the circumstances, I can't exactly place Davis in a respectable position. Sounds like he has "issues."

I didn't have a problem with KC. It was nice having airtime on a stand-up...

Sept. 11th 2001, Slayer released God Hates Us All. The song "Disciple" uncannily describes the events of that day, as well as the anthrax letters that followed.

a xcelerator clone or something like it would fit perfect in that spot of land
I think its a great ride, and I've never felt any discomfort on it.  I'm really sad to see this coaster go. Hell, I'm sad to see just about any coaster go.  I've had one ride on Shockwave, and if that one ride is a good representation, then they ride nothing alike.  I really just don't want to see this ride go.  I remember I was tall enough to ride everything in the park for two years whne i was little, lol, but I still had to wait to ride cobra.  Great memories.  I hope whatever replaces it Cobra is a high quality ride, but its just going to be another symbol of what PKI used to be.  I would reckon that no other stand up ever will have this much air, and that will be sorely missed.  Eh, I don't know what else to say.  I'm sad.

Idle hands were orient to her.
Compare and contrast: King Cobra is my 2nd favorite stand up (behind Chang of course ;)); PKD's Shockwave is my LEAST favorite stand up (in over a dozen visits to PKD last season, I rode Shockwave exactly TWICE). But hey, if it's gotta go, it's gotta go!

Just no more bloomin' mice PLEASE!

I need to ride it before its gone!!!!  It better be up and running May 4th!
Sorry Joe, I think you're outta luck.

Here's an interesting fact... King Cobra was the first, and only, attraction in the park that had a "test" seat at the entrance.

But rumor has it that a second one will appear this season on another attraction.....

Hmmmmm... now whatever could I mean by that? ;-)

I thought this ride was okay, but since Paramount is associated with the park I think they could probably come up with something more movie themed and more modern that would be better, especially conisdering its location bordering Action Zone and Oktoberfest.  They could make a cool German themed ride or a coo movie ride, since they'l have Top Gun, Face Off, and Tomb Raider.
