You got that right Jim! In construction the most used lines I hear are "It all depends" and "that should work".

Some engineer's (or should I say inspectors?) are a nightmare! When we build complex grade beams, columns and rebar mats that tie into each other it looks good on paper but when to have to put everything in place keeping the right bar spacing, and all clearances it's just impossible. It's even better when the inspector has no idea what they are looking at and they need to ask you what you put in.

I've seen those rods for building footers. They can take 1000 bore samples and they may all be fine. Move 10 feet away from one of them and who knows what there.

At one job I was working at they had all the land cleared and half the footers in. When they started on the other side of the building they found contaminated soil. They had to remove all the contaminated dirt then backfill with new stuff. That entire mess took about 2 weeks to finish. You never know what you'll run into with construction. No construction (at least that I worked) ever goes flawless.

ColossusHennesay, I'm not trying to flame you, but perhaps you could try consolidating your thoughts into one post instead of three consecutive posts. Just a friendly suggestion, no hard feelings.

Still wondering how Six Flags put in the footers for Batman: Knight Flight at sfwoa.....

They cofferdammed the area and restored it after they were done. Since it was considered wetlands, they had to buy approved restoration seed at $10,000 a pound. The silver track inspector was designed because it would pay for itself in just 2 years as opposed to using a crane in the wetlands. An enviromental permit would be required every year for the inspection process using a crane.

At CP they use floating pads due to the sand base. They do lots of test borings and put a massive pad under the frost line. What is seen from the surface is just the cap of the pad. Bedrock is not close to the surface at CP.

At IB they drove pilings around 25-45 feet down on the land portion because much of it is fill due to expansion. Over the water the pilings were sunk to around 65 feet to provide a solid base.

Not to flame you or anything, but that is what the edit button if for. If you have any additions to your thoughts before someone else posts a response, it's a genreal courtesy to simply add on to the first post, instead of posting again.

EDIT- See? I just had to edit this myself, 'cause of some errors (no, that was not intentional).

Well, aside from the fact that most of his posts are worthless from the start, such as "ah, I see", "1 minute after Moosh", and "...darkness as silence fell".

That's not true. (Unless you're being sarcastic) A few years ago, I think around 1998, a local radio station in Cleveland, Ohio made an April Fool's joke. They stated that Magnum XL-200 was sinking and that it would be dismantled in the near future. The joke was taken pretty serious to some people.

...but I was pretty sure Maggie was sinking, sinking into the Sar-Chasm....;)
So like on Batman Knight Flight, how deep would those footers go, or are they attached to something else underneath the water?
just having fun.
