The new Roller Coaster Tycoon pinball machine is being tested. It was designed by Pat Lawlor Design Inc, and will be manufactured by Stern Pinball. It should go into production within the next 6 to 8 weeks. It's based on the widely popular Roller Coaster Tycoon PC video game. Pat Lawlor has designed many popular pinball machines, including Twilight Zone, Addams Family, RoadShow and Funhouse, just to name a few.

Glad to finally meet you redman822. While I didnt end up playing the game, the overall display was pretty cool. Lots of lights and sounds. The "Dunk the Dummy" was pretty funny with the bushy haired troll bouncing up and down.
The digital display had some pretty cool animation of coaster riding. I will have to return tomorrow to actually play it. They also have a big digital sign in the playing field displaying the number of guests presently in your park.
I was surprised to find out that Stern Electronics (the makers of pinball including this one) were right down the street from Season Tickets sports bar. I guess this bar has gotten other test machines in the past including pinball Monopoly.

You said it has a lot of bugs in it? Made by Vekoma huh?
Just kidding. I like pinball, I don't know all the lingo, but that game doesn't provide the "eye candy" a lot of other games do. I seem to remember a rollercoaster themed pinball machine about 10 years ago at least. Had a lot of tracks on it. Anyone remember what it was?
Ok....
If you want to go back and relive pinball's glorious past on your PC, here are a few links to get you started....
Get Visual Pinball and Pinmame first. Install these, then d/l tables you want and their respective roms. Put the tables in the tables folder, the roms in the roms folder, nv files in the nvram folder, and cfg files in the cfg folder. Once you do that, run Vpinball and load a machine (F5 to start emulation). Press 5 to insert coin, 1 to start a game.
The VP community doesn't emulate anything that's newer than 4 years old (a great policy to keep revenues for arcade operators up on the newest machines like Monopoly and Austin Powers.) so the latest machine emulated is probably Sega's South Park. So, RCT will NOT be available until time has passed (sorry), and neither will the new Simpsons machine that follows RCT. BUT, there are a TON of machines (like 400) that ARE emulated AND if you're Visual Basic savvy, you can make your own! It's a lot of fun.
This is a wonderful way to re-generate interest in an art form we almost lost entirely. With Stern being the only player in the game, this can only be beneficial (and a few 'insiders' think so too).

Well, I'm like Jeff...That would be a perfect fit next to my Twilight Zone. Lawlor hasn't delivered a dud yet, and I don't expect this will be any different.
If anyone will be attending Pinball Expo, I'm sure that this will be the tourney machine. http://www.pinballexpo.net
Pinball & roller coasters...together again!
Maybe D&B will get a few....here's hoping!

If you've played Monopoly, do you think this table has playfield shots that are too much like Monopoly (just by looking at the pics)? I thought it was too similar. Jet bumpers, ramps and targets are all eerily similar. Granted, ramps divert to different locations and there are different gizmos, but just looking at it, I'm wondering if it's too similar. (Kinda how I felt about Twilight Zone after seeing Addams Family. Except for the widebody and the abundance of toys, shots are pretty similar there too, but not like this.)

Wouldn't matter to me, as I've not played Monopoly much.

Chris,
I thought the same thing. The first thing I thought when I saw the pictures was "this looks a lot like Monopoly". It kinda reminds me of RoadShow, too, for some strange reason (mainly the colors used, I think).
Either way, I'm looking forward to playing it.
The bugs I was referring to were software based. There were random resets, plus replicatable resets (like when someone got the special for hitting the replay score or at the end of a four player game - thus skipping the "match").

Man, this thread brings back some fond memories. F-14 Tomcat was one of my favorites to be sure. Before that, it was Gottlieb's "Haunted House", which if memory serves me correctly, was the first "multi-tiered" pinball table.
Other favorites included Williams' "Diner", where you had to serve various customers by hitting the appropriate food targets on the table. When completed, a bell would ring and you'd hear "Order Up!". It was just a classic. "Fire" was also a cool machine, and of the newer machines, I kind of enjoyed the Sega "South Park" machine. Mr. Hankey would pop out of the toilet, the bumpers had, well, flatulence noises provided by Terrance and Phillip, and some of the soundbites were simply hilarious.

Madhollander,
From talking with Pat (the designer) on Wednesday, that is basically the case. He wanted to do a coaster-themed machine and he came up with the basic design/layout and then they approached Sawyer/Infrogrames for the licensing and once they got approval they finalized the gameplay and design.
