My current favorite song is DXY! on Konamix.

Steph, try DXY! on maniac sometime. It's absolutely insane. Half the song is eighth-notes like this: step-step-jump-step-step-step-jump-step-step-step-jump-step-step... etc.... sooo hard.

Den: I can barely handle the trick mode version! Maybe if I keep practicing... ;)

Well, here's what you have to look forward to. http://www.ddrfreak.com/steps/stepserver.php?Songs=dxy&Mode=Single&Difficulty=Maniac&Code=Normal&Submit=Submit

Check out the bottom of the fifth column. Freaking insane.

My favorite song to play TECHNICALLY (THERE, NOW STOP JUMPING ON ME OKAY?) has quickly become Break Down on DDRMAX2. I've been getting more into freestyling though than tech lately, and I have to say that the 6-7 foot Maniac songs have their merit (Somewhere Over the Ranbow, Look to the Sky, etc).

PS: Great forum idea Jeff, if you ever talked to me anymore I'm sure you would've told me about it. :oP

You mean Breakdown standard? 'cause Breakdown heavy is a 9-footer and a freaking hard one at that.

I'm aware of the steps and foot rating in Break Down Heavy. And Heavy is indeed what I meant. :oP

Haha. Owned. :)

I didn't own anyone, Den should know though that I can do those hard 9-footers ;)

Also the reason I like Break Down Heavy is because it was one of the very last songs that still challenged me. :)

Please inform me exactly -how- you freestyle Bre\-/kdown Maniac...

Yeah - I thought you meant you were freestyling to Breakdown heavy, but now I realize that's probably not what you meant.

Didn't the word "though" clue you in, and the fact that I said it was one of the very last songs that still challenged me? sheesh!

That's why I said I like the 6-7 foot Maniac songs, THOSE I can freestyle. :oP

Jump down my throat why don't you people!?

rowr!!! settle down, hoss!

Telling me to settle down is like telling SFNE SROS to stop throwing you out of your seat on the 3rd return hill. NOT HAPPENING!

Okay.

What are your freestyling techniques for maniac songs exactly?

I'd like to know =)

I like the older songs too. Even some of the Korean appends.

Songs like Stomp to my beat, AM-3P, dub-i-dub, after the game of love, keep on moving, BYUL, Let the beat hit 'em etc. probably because I was weened on the older mixes.

We only have DDR MAX2s within a 40 minute driving radius of where I live. So I have to play these newer tunes by default. Even after the unlocks, there are very few songs I actually like on DDR MAX2 (7th Mix)

Ha ha, nice comparison. Also, I believe you're talking about the second return hill. ;) The third would be the entrance to the helix which doesn't pack as much punch as #2.

Damn! I'd liked to know that too! :-)

I just came back from the arcade and now I have a ton of new favorite songs. There was no one there, so I played a bunch I had never played before.

New favorite: Across the Nightmare. It's as fast as Max 300 with great jumps.

I also really, really like Heaven is a '57 Metallic Gray, Mobo Mogo (I think it's called), Kiss Me All Night Long, Tsugaru Apple Mix, Colors and Bag. I had tried Bag before on standard but not heavy... and I had to do it on 3x, but it's great fun.

I still can't pass Saints Go Marching. I tried a few other 9-footers for the first time and failed them, such as Afronova and Burning Heat.

Oh - most embarrassing Nonstop Random ever... I accidentally put it on Standard instead of Heavy, and then the game gives me Remember You. I was begging for Maxx Unlimited so I'd have some challenge, but no luck. Next game, I pick Nonstop again, pick Heavy, and the first song is ... yep... Maxx Unlimited. I died in like 15 seconds. :)
