Back in the 70's, people at Geauga Lake used to always tell the story about the Big Dipper flying off the tracks and going into the lake from the far turnaround. I can still remember the day the train valleyed on it's first run and we sent some little kids out to look for it. They had come up on the platform to ask why we weren't open yet. We replied with very concerned looks on our faces that we had sent the train out 10 minutes ago and it hasn't come back yet.
There was also a story about the Big Dipper being originally built at a height of 80ft. A severe storm/tornado in the late 1920's caused the lifthill to fall over and it was rebuilt at it's current height of 65ft.
