Favorite Amusement Park Legends

My favourite amusement park legends are:

1.) Montu had crocs or gators in a pit below the turn leading from the station to the lift hill. I believe this was actually true but they were not there when I rode it in October - does anyone know when they were removed and why (probably a FAQ).

2.) A man was launched into the sea on the turn after the first drop on the Cyclone Racer. He was said to have immediately gone back to the rides station, after swiming to shore, where he demanded a refund as he had not got his moneys worth.

3.) A nurse worked in the station of the Crystal Beach Cyclone where she treated the injured and afraid.

4.) TTD will be extended to include a section of air time hills - not going to happen.

5.) One of the very early wooden coasters was built with a gap in the track which it would leap over during its course. This is 99% true, the ride worked quite well except for when the train was to heavy or light as it would obviously jump further or shorter.

Millennium Force is closed today because when they were testing it this morning, it went 120mph and they couldn't slow it down so they had to close it.

I've heard this from kids, teens, and reputable, intelligent adults alike.

The person in charge of marketing the Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a legend. From 1994 to 2001 it was "the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world" as claimed by the message continually repeated in the station, the park leaflets, adverts, etc. Then in 2002 the park finally realised the ride was no longer what they said it to be so the message was changed to "the tallest, fastest roller coaster in Europe" - this the year that Silver Star (the actual record holder) was built at Europa Park in Germany. Talk about not being able to keep up with the times.
Slightly off-topic, but in the same vain as the last post:

I like how BGT dubs Gwazi as the "tallest, fastest double-tracked wooden coaster in the Southeast." There are, what, two other ones, both built in the 1970's?

I'd have to say my Favorite Amusement Park "Legend" is Holiday World's. ;)

Paddle Faster! I hear banjo music.

I don't know if anybody else heard this one but I've heard a legend that Stephanie Tanner from Full House was riding American Eagle @ SFGAm and fell out in the helix and drown in the pond and that's why the pond is drained now (but it would hurt a lot more if you hit land than water.) I've also heard in that story that the reason she fell out was she insisted on sitting in a seat that had the "next seat please" tags on them and they removed them for her because she was a celebrity.

Mildly amused since 2003.

This one is true. There were actually crocodiles in the pit. They were removed late 2000, early 2001. Rumour has it that some animal activist groups complained about the lack of space.

I haven't heard this mentioned lately but it was popular several years ago:

The Bat at Kings Island flew off the tracks, and that's why the ride was removed.

Jeffrey - around 1991, I heard The Bat was removed because it was sinking into swampland. I was always partial to that legend because it looks so plausible. Until you notice Vortex, of course.

Crocodiles under Montu sounds like it was a bad idea from the start, unless there was some kind of grating over their pit. Those suckers can jump...

That girl must be real old and must have travelled well... my grand mother told the story of "the girl who got her hair caught on the roller coaster at Hersheypark"... of course this girl, according to my grandmother, got her entire head torn off. She never said if it was the Comet or original Wildcat. Doesn't really matter since it never happened. I remember hearing thsi from her when I was just a wee lad... back in the early 1970's or so.

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
My Favorite is one where in the Boat Chute tunnel at Lake Winnie a couple was kissing and a girl got bitten by a poisonous snake.

Don't know if it's true....

There wasn't any grating, but as you can see in the picture, the train was high enough to prevent any problems with jumping gators: http://www.coastergallery.com/2000/BGT35.html

-Nate (who has never seen any of the gators/crocs at BGT do anything more than blink)

I could only imagine the fright of people if that broke down and people got ejected out of their seat and got thrown into the croc pit, where is Steve Irwin when you need him?

Skol Vikings
Let's shoot us some deer Joe Joe!!!!

Yeah, because coasters are always breaking down and ejecting people.

SFGAMDie HARD I know that one isn't true because just recently I saw pictures of her from a few years back at her senior prom. So she is still alive and did not drown.

Here's some of the stuff I've heard:

Going up the lift on Batman Knight Flight, "Some guy lost his shoe and it got jammed in the wheels and the train fell in the water"

People almost drowned on Double Loop @ SFWoA. (this one is true tho)

CP is going to build a coaster with underwater invertions.

I heard this same story for Power Tower and Drop Zone @ PKI.
