Whats that got to do with anything?
Well, whenever I smell that tar they use on telephone poles I think of the Cedar Creek Mine Ride.....
Always have always will, since 1969 when I rode it on it's opening year (yea I'm THAT old!)

As other people have said, the smell of a dark ride is truly memorable. Also, when I was younger, I remember the smell of oil in Kiddie Land at Lincoln Park, MA. (Probably from the train.)
In recent times, the smell of BBQ food being prepared in the Crack-Axle Canyon section at SFNE, and the misty tunnels on SROS.

Chain grease is great. Especially on an old coaster like Thunderbolt, where on the path to the entrance, you walk right under the chain, and the smell overwhelms you.
Nothing beats however, the smell of strong chlorine in a water ride's tunnel, especially when they have recently added the chemicals. It adds to the exitement a heap if the main lift hill is enclosed and you smell this all the way up.
