Ever drive by a park but could not stop?

That happened to me last year pon the way to N.Y..Went right by Dorney Park and could not stop and ride the coasters.I snapped a couple of  Pictures on the way by though.

Quite often, actually.  Kennywood, for instance.  Dorney as well.

I was in Vancouver during the winter once and we drove right by Playland.  (Ok, it was closed, so I REALLY couldn't stop, but I SO wanted to).

Hersheypark lots of times... twice for Dorney and twice for King's Dominion.
Greg: Had a similar experience back in 1999. I was in Kansas City for an NSBE convention and on the way to our hotel we went right pass WoF. There was this one bigass Magnum-esque coaster (which I now know was Mamba) *RIGHT THERE* calling out to me. But alas, the trip was in March and the park was closed *sigh*. Hey, at least I got to go DisneyLand with the convention the year before.

I have had a few near miss park visits.

But even wrose than driving past a park, is being IN the park and not getting to ride.

I'm not talking about the typical problem with rides being closed for weather or maintenance.  I'm talking being in the park, the ride is operating, being in queue for the ride any not getting to ride.  This happened to me at Rye Playland. Something about the 35 mile drive (Mapquest) from Coney Island to Rye actually taking 3 hours. Got to the park and then realized we had an appointment at the White Plains Airport to meet.  Worse part of the story is we had a 1 hour flight delay.

Drive-Bys?

* Wild Adventures, La Ronde, Lake Winne, SFoG, Animal Kingdom (big loss there :)), MarineLand (Niagara Falls - We were even in the parking lot), LegoLand

Oh, and Mirabilandia, Ravenna, Italy (I was in Ravenna on Nov 15. Problem: Mirabilandia closed Oct 7 for the winter)  Oh well, I would have had to look 'rollercoaster' up in my Italian phrase book.

I did not include parks that I eventually got to visit.

Just this summer after leaving SFGAdv, I drove right by Dorney.

Drove to camden park from a trip to west virginia  only to see a sign that said they were closed on mondays  gueass what day it was

Drove past the exit to opryland figuring I'd go, for  the first time, some other time.  whoops

Once for Hersheypark. It was at ACE's Coastercon. We were leaving our hotel to head for Dorney. But this was after spending the previous 4 days at Hershey.

And once when I went to Texas in 1998 to visit family. I don't remember it though because this was before I even rode a coaster. My parents said we went to a stadium near SixFlags over Texas.

Millennium Force......It has its ups and downs.

I go to New York all the time and drive right by Dorney and it kills me, because i want to go so bad. This year it looked 10 times more tempting because of Talon, which just looked great. I always stay up when i'm exhausted just to get a look for like 25 seconds, I'm always like "DAD SLOW DOWN, ROLLER COASTERS."  When I get my liscence i'm going to drive to Dorney just because i've seen it so many times without going, along with all the other east coast parks, and CP.

Let's see, happens all the time with parks I live near, but I eventually get to go sometime that year.  As far as parks I've driven by and never been to: KBF, the one in the Seattle-Tacoma area, the ones south of Salem, Oregon, SFGAm, SFoG, IOA, Boardwalk & Baseball, Disneyland and I'll inclue WoF (I got to visit about 8-9 years ago, but I drove by 3 summers ago and unfortunately couldn't stop).  That's about it.
Last weekend....I went on a cruise to the Carribben and had to drive from Maryland to Boynton Beach, FL to stay overnight with my grandparents instead of getting a hotel. The next morning I went from Boynton Beach to Miami, about an 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 min. drive and right next to the highway while I was driving on it, I saw a fairly large wooden roller coaster and a ferris wheel an some other same flat rides. It did not look like the park was open at all, like it might have been shut down for good, but I could not stop by anyway. Does anyone know what park I am talking about? It's about 30 minutes from the Port of Miami and it is a park with one good size woodie. I don't know the name of the park, but I would like to.

All at once the ghosts come back reeling you in now.
When I was a kid, we drove around Hersheypark.  My dad wouldn't stop to let me take pictures, so I leaned halfway out the window and snapped one.  All I got was the car roof. :(

In 1999 I had to drive right by PKD on the way to BGW (only had time to visit one).  I drove right beside KBF on my way to SFMM from San Diego this year (only had time to visit one).  That was a big mistake, because I had been there before and my reason for going (Goliath) was closed.  I had to drive by several billboards for Indiana Beach this summer on my way back from Chicago.  I think I've driven by more parks than I've been to!

You can't spell "dishonorable" without "honorable."

Ace15, ouch, drive to Miami from Maryland? And I thought 4 hours of flying was bad. That park is probably this one. http://www.rcdb.com/locationdetail229.htm

Whenever I goto Chicago I pass SFGAm, but it's always winter, so I can't go even if I wanted to. One time a few years ago, I didn't accually see the park, but I almost got to goto BGT. My flight got in too late (around 11:30... not really late) and my parents said there wouldn't be enough time to go there. At least when I go in a couple weeks there'll be time! :)

I have no signature.

YES! Last year coming home from south carolina we went by kings dominion and i saw hyper sonic and couldn't ride it...i was sooo mad, it looks awesome and i wanted to stop, but of course, parents didn't.

"you give me the most gorgeous sleep that i've ever had and when it's really bad i guess it's not that bad" Underneath it all- no doubt
Last summer on the way to Kwood we drove by CP, which we were to stop at on the way home. So there I was like dead asleep in the car and all of the sudden I awaken...and so I say "We're near the Point aren't we?" Turns out we were had just passed the exit. It was the weirdest thing that's ever happenned to me. For some reason I always get that feeling when I am near a park :).

ACE15 that park is the Dania Beach Boomers and the coaster you saw there was the Dania Beach Hurricane.I rode this coaster last May right after flying in from Portland,OR.The next day my wife and I went on a Carribean cruise. The DBH for me was the highlight of this trip. After riding the DBH all I could think was"Portland,Oregon could use a coaster like this".The park that I have driven past numerous times and never stopped was Enchanted Village in Federal Way,WA .I have to confess that the Arrow Looping coaster there isn't much of a draw for me.I will probably stop when they build that proposed woodie there.I was probably too busy thinking about all that airtime I was about to experience on the PNE Coaster in Vancouver,BC.
Yeah, when we were driving to Hershey, we went right by Dorney. We could have purchased strarlight passes and gone for a couple of hours, but of course we didn't. :(

Ive had to go to Sandusky lots of times and not gone to CP,and I've drove by PKI before on the way to Florida and Myrtle Beach.
