If attendance numbers were anywhere under one million a year, you really could call it a disappointment.
CF publicly discloses their figures these days. VF ( a metro area a little bigger--3 million to SFEG's 2.6 million--and a shorter operating season) had 1.1 million visitors and WOF (way smaller - 1.7 million) had 900,000.
So does anyone have estimated atendance numbers from Amusement Business to settle this issue?

I love it already. ;) If it's blue and orange, like the one at the Zamperla factory, name it after the broncos!
Spider is still staying? I thought that ride was a piece of crap for maitenence?

You are bold, but are you also...daring?
I think that would be cool to name the ride after the broncos even though they havn't had such a good year.
But on another update, my dad was watching something on PBS friday night and I heard the words elitch gardens so natuarlly I started paying attention and they were talking about Ocean Journey. The topic was bailing ocean journey out of dept and the guy said that SF had said they are only interested in building theme parks and not aquariums. I don't know if this means that they are not interested in the land or what. I know they are not interested in the aqaurium itself, but what about the land.
While Spider is a maintenance nightmare basically because it is old, the Thunder Roads won the removal over the winter.
Local newspaper articles show that Six Flags was never really interested in Ocean Journey, besides Ocean Journey is quite a distance from the park so there wouldn't be expansion over the river, unless it was parking, I guess.
I'm not sure what side of ocean journey was for sale, but they could make a sweet coaster if they put the station in the pepsi pavilons and had the body on the other side of the river. Look at this areal shot:
The park and ocean journey are literally right across the river from eachother.
And what do you mean by "Thunder Roads won the removal"? Why do they have to remove anything, the ride seemed pretty popular to me whenever I was there. Oh well, any idea what will replace it if anything?
Ocean Journey and SFEG are not that close. The only construction I could ever envision over the river is a bridge.
As for Thunder Roads, maintenance is the issue, the ride was bad.

It ain't Oprah 'til it's Oprah
Oh well, I guess a coaster for some bumper cars is a fair trade off.
I think it would be a good idea for them to put a parking lot next to ocean journey, with a bridge over the river. Since they are getting rid of some parking spots anyways, this would be nice. It would also allow for two entrances and make getting into the park faster.

I wondered this myself, but it was pointed out to me that parking garages just cost too much money. They can run up to and even past 25 million if I am not mistaken. A small park like Elitch's definitly can't afford that, most normal size parks with a steady attendence can't afford that. They will have to resort to it sometime, but I don't know if they will be able to just because of the cost. This is why I wish they would have moved out to the old stapleton complex when it moved in 94, because Elitchs moved in 95. There would have been plenty of land to expand on, the "great" highway view, and wouldn't ya know it, a parking garage already built that holds 5,000 cars.

Buzz Head- Why does it looks so bad? I think it looks fun.

PT300, did they mention anything more about it than waht was on the 6 oclock hour??? I got all excited when I saw the preview for it before I watched it, and they mentioned a measly two words, I guess my standards are too high. It still seems kinda strange they are announcing it when SF hasn't even done so yet.
Buzzhead- That is the best they can do with the many limitations that face them. I know I bag on the park a lot too, but when you really think about it, there are three main things that face them.
1. Lack of space, HUGH lack of space.
2. Lack of money.
3. Lack of population and amusement park goers, believe it or not, Colorado only has 4,000,000 people in it. While that number seems high, most people come here just for the mountains, and natural stuff. You think of Ohio as the boring state, but they have a population of 11,000,000 and that is why they can support such a high amount of great parks. And Ohio doesn't have much else in it(no offense to any people from Ohio). People don't visit Colorado for the amusement parks, they only stop there if they have the time, most come during winter. And the people who do live here visit the ski resorts and other things. Our GP just isn't into coasters, there are too many otehr things to do here.
