Drachenfire speculation: TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!??!

While it's certainly intriguing, most likely it does refer to the rest of the coasters -- bringing them to life as in starting them up for the day. All parks use that style of really dramatic phrasing when advertising a great new ride or special event. But then again, this is a circumstance when it would be very pleasant to be wrong!

I hope to god that it is opening.  I love that coaster so much and would love to get the chance to ride it again.  From the rumors I heard this year on my annual trip to the park back in June, DF is supposed to be torn down at the end of the year to make way for a new coaster.  I hope to god the person was just yankin my chain and DF stays put.
Why they close it in the first place? I mean everyone seems to love it!

My way, my way or the highway.
I don't know. From the sounds of it, IMO, it sounds like they are referring to a force-like something that in general whips up rides, kind of like Kennywood's Phantom thing they had, with the ghost story. But, shame on them! They should know better, it should have been worded different if they don't want it taken the wrong way, it's confusing me, why can't they just say something? Is their reason probaly that bad if they've never really made official announcement.

Even if it's full of dummies, I want to see it, I may not ever get a ride, but it would be nice to see it.

Can someone please call the park and find out? I have lost sleep over this..."OMG it is opening, will it get bew cars, with lap bars! and add the old Corckscrew back in?!?!

Why did they close it??? Simple; the puddin' pies!

Just look in the mirror. You know who you are and that's who you can thank for this ridiculous outrage.

Long live Drachen Fire

I hope they open it.  Even though I live outside 3 hours from there, I would just like to see it open up.  For some reason, it would make me feel really good.

hopes you enjoyed the Dahlonega Mine Train.

Like the title to this topic says it seems to good to be true. However, Drachen Fire is the only coaster that really is along the train route. It passes relatively close to Loch Ness, but not as close as it does to DF and I am going to hope for the best. I have joked to my wife all year that they would probably open it for Howl-O-Scream after I left for law school. If it does open she's going to have to ride it extra for me, until I can get there next summer.

I rode it opening weekend, but never after they changed to the ride by removing the corkscrew.  It would be wonderful if they reconfigured the ride again, and reopened it, but I certainly don't think they intended what we are thinking about their wording.  As enthusiasts, we are way too anal about stuff like this, and we are all reading way too much into this.  Sorry, but I would stake my life on this....  They have to run the thing before they can re-open.  They can't just start it running one night.  It won't happen that way.

One of my favorite shirts is an old DF shirt. It has a great saying on it. It says " Reality Ends. Legend Begins."
Well, if they do reopen her for Halloween, I hope it's not the poor girl's swan song before they dismantle her!

Believe me, the park is not talking.  The only comment they will make is "Drachen Fire is closed".  They could be testing it at night, but if they were to spring such a surprise as opening DF, they sure wouldn't let it leak out.  I really have my doubts that it will open for Howl-O-Scream, but if they do, I am so there no matter what my schedule looks like. I would drop everything.   Let's not get our hopes up, but it is fun to speculate.
Would this become a seasonal coaster?

BMCOASTER

I am fortunate to have Drachen Fire on my track record.  I'm afraid that this is a case of all the support coming AFTER we lost the ride.  I was BGW on a Friday in July (1994) and Drachen Fire was a walk on.   I recall it being a very interesting and forceful ride, a total departure from other Arrow multi-element coasters.  I rode DF before I used the Internet, when I didn't know much about a park till I showed up to ride. (Ah, the good old days), my first view of Drachen Fire was on a brochure I picked up in the VA welcome station, and I was like "They aren't putting humans through that".  When I rode it my immediate reaction was "This is NOT a coaster for rookies"   I too have the "Reality ends, Legend Begins" shirt, I keep it in storage with the the plan being to wear it when and if I ever go to BGW again in silent protest.  I also have a Drachen Fire poster. Did I mention I really liked Drachen Fire?

While 95% of my says "Naw they weren't really reffering to Drachen Fire, I mean they don't even acnknowledge its presennce, 5% of me says "If they want to test market a ride, Howl-O-Scream would be a good time"

David "Planning on going up to BGW GR in aforementioned shirt  "I came here to ride this ride" <pointing at shirt>. Bowers

Borrowing a little bit from science fiction here...

In our present "timeline" a lot of people are bemoaning the fact that DracenFire is SBNO... saying how innovative and how great it was (from what I have gathered many who are saying that have never even ridden this coaster but are basing their "love" for this coaster solely on looks alone.)

In an alternate timeline, a timeline where DracenFire is still running, unmodified, and is practically a walk on every time, the same group who is protesting for its reopening now would be protesting that it is too rough or has not aged well or something and should be ripped out and replaced with another coaster.

I am reminded of my trip to Kennywood in May of 2000. I went there because I wanted to ride Steel Phantom before its demise. For all of the hype surrounding its removal, I was expecting to see people chained to its supports in protest ("you will have to remove ME before you remove this coaster!"), but what I found was a walk on (while the old woodies had lines) that was excruciatingly rough and unpleasant to ride, no matter how "good" its layout looked. In my opinion, BGW has a "Steel Phantom" on their hands... the only difference is, Kennywood kept SP running up until the end, eventually replacing it with PR. BGW has chosen instead to let DF sit idle... making this coaster much more popular in its SBNO status than it ever could have attained had it been operating all of these years.

When I went 3 weeks ago there werent even trains on the track. I would love for it to open but I dont think its happenning, but I hope I am wrong.
I like how everyone hates Ron Toomer, and yet this was his design!!! Funny how a closed ride makes your TRUE feelings come out! :)

SLFAKE: Right on! I can't help but think of DF as the cousin of the ill-fated Steel Phantom. Everything I've heard about the ride is exactly the same thing I used to hear about Steel Phantom. People were all about "saving the Phantom" at one time, but for what purpose? A ride with walk-ons in the peak of the season with high maintenance costs is obviously not a good thing.

I say tear it down and build something else or give Morgan a whack at it.

I agree that if Drachen Fyre had been open all these years it would probably have been ignored and bashed.I went there opening season and it had the shortest line of the coasters.
I also miss the corkscrew they removed. To me, the ride looks butchered without it. Maybe some reprofiling in that area of the ride would help.Remove the trim brake and make it a large floater hill.Tere's still a brake run before the cutback loop so you dont hit it too fast.
As for reopening during the haloween event I think with all the attention the ride has got since it closed they would hype the hell out of it to make as much money as possible.Until I read here that it has ropened I'm still going with my hunch that the "sleeping roller coasters"message refers to the other rides opening for the event.
hope I'm wrong
