Dominion discontinues hip-hop festival

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Paramount's Kings Dominion has canceled the annual College Hip-Hop Fest that was produced with Viacom corporate cousin BET. Both parties cite declining attendance. The show was associated with two fatal shootings. It also raised more than $250,000 for black colleges over its seven-year run.

Yeah right, declining attendance my bahind! They just did it cause some cats don't know how to act. Good for them though....
Declining attendance at the concert or the park in general?

If it's the concert I can see why folks are hesitant about attending what with two fatal shootings in the parking lot I believe,I know after I heard about one of the shootings I was a little less than certain on wether or not I actually wanted to visit the park at all this year.

Maybe they will get a Metalfest now instead! \m/
A Metalfest would make me laugh.
wouldnt count on it, lol;)
'Tuan's right. Everytime they had that fest, it was wall to wall people. And everytime they had the fest, somebody got all rowdy and make a ruckus. They were just tired of the ish!

It was a great time/place to catch random smatterings of hootchies though.....but you can get that about anywhere.

Perhaps more accurate than "declining attendance" might be "reclining attendance," as in lying back on a gurney and exiting the venue feet-first?

Two less people walked out last year than walked in. That's a decline in attendance, right?
well, this is a good one...when you put a bunch of animals in a cage? you fill in the blanks.....this is a family theme park for crying out loud. not a jam fest venue!

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Families don't listen to hip-hop?
Woah...That was the most racist, prejudicial and most Cap'n Obvious needs to come smack some sense into you comment I've seen on here ever. And I dont' condone the CO smackdowns. I think someone needs to get out a bit more and realize that they're an idiot.

Hip-Hop dosen't make bad people, bad parenting does. Mental illness does. But music dose not. True, while I don't condone the violence & sex in alot of music(hip-hop, country, pop, metal, etc.), people chose to listen to it, and chose to act a fool.

Maybe you should think before you vomit out those kind of gross comments, no?

what teknoScorpian said. that was one outright racist comment.

i dont' like hip hop personally, but that's no reason to discriminate against people that do. hell, i'm a punk rocker. i know what it's like to have everyone assume you're a hoodlum or trouble-maker.

The problem isn't that hip-hop fans are hoodlums; the problem is that (some) hoodlums are hip-hop fans. It's an apparently-subtle, but extremely important distinction.

There have been NO KILLINGS in the parking lot at PKD......

NONE!

BATWING FAN SFA GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

The two fatal shootings took place in downtown Richmond, "after" the hip hop festival at PKD.

there was a shooting in the parking lot at PKD, but there were no fatalities.

SAM

come on., these remarks are certainly not prejudicial. Try realist. tell me any one is going to bring there families to a theme park when theres going to be a hip hop happenin. Do you live in the dark, do you walk around with blinders on. Its not like you have a crowd of Hillary Duffy Fans Or Lionel Richey fans, come on. Wake up and smell the thme park.. Its a Theme Park .Once bitten You sure aint going to return. really bad public relations for the park. Can you say out of bussiness if stuff like this happens repeat, time and again?
Techno and whoever...Im Hiscpanic.I dont think that the comments were out of line at all.You just need to get a life and a new hobby in stead of coastering. I think all that riding has effected your brains.
First off, its TEKNO. with a "K". Why can't people get that right? And just because you are hispanic dosen't mean you are immune from making racial slurs. Yes, the comment was out of line. Even Jeff apparently thought so. "Get a new life and a new hobby"? Maybe you should go back to Grade school if thats how you want to insult me...

And Samuel, realist? So you're saying no one will go to the park because there is a hip-hop concert going on? That is the second most asinine comment on this board, and just as prejudicial. And you mean to tell me you joined coasterbuzz just to post that in the news section today? Thats creepy.

I could tell you loads of people who go to parks "with hip-hop happenin". Just because there is any kind of concert there dosen't mean families won't go. My family when to PCar one time when So-So Def on tour was there back in the day, is there something wrong with that?

I think ya'll need to pull the blinders off your eyes. Then come tell me bout the "real world".

God. Stupid idiots.

"It was a great time/place to catch random smatterings of hootchies though"

:-)

P.S. If "Jeff apparently thought so", then by all means, we should all think the same way. It is his site! :-)

Stop putting words into peoples mouth, Jeffery. But you do bring up a good point, it is his site.If that was said in my house and I disapproved, don't think I'd let it NOT be known.
