Dominator has gone vertical!

Finally after months of waiting Dominator at KD has gone vertical folks. So far the station track & drop into the turn leading to the lift are in place.

Coastercrew has an update from the construction site including photos & the usual podcast if anyone wants to see the progress they've made so far.I suspect that construction will proceed pretty fast now that the first sections are in place.

Couldn't find the photos.

-Congo Falls - 90 rides (one day) -Murder of the Orient Express (1980-2003)
So they aren't even painting it?

Does anyone have an idea as to the projected opening, and if they will be auctioning off the first ride?

I was lucky enough to have a front row seat on Dominator's last public train (there was at least one train after us) at Geauga Lake, and would love to be one of the first riders at its new home at Kings Dominion.

They'll probably paint it after vertical assembly is finished. Prevents having to flip the pieces and also prevents damaging the paint job during assembly.
For those that have never ridden this coaster, it is a beast. It is the best floorless coaster just barely behind Kraken and Superman Krypton. Easily better than Medusa(both of them) and Scream. I am so happy for a great park like Kings Dominion to be getting it. You will love it! Keep those pics coming, I will enjoy seeing this thing ride to the sky.

Top 5, in no particular order: 1. MF 2. Maverick, 3. Kraken 3. El Toro, 4. TTD 5. Superman Krypton Coaster Top overrated coasters: 1. Incredible Hulk (Boooooring!) 2. Nitro 3. Expedition G-force 4. Goliath(SFMM) 5. Any Dive Coaster

Dominator was always my least favorite floorless.

Kraken, Hydra, Batman, Medusa East - thought they were all superior.

Hmm. I've been looking forward to Dominator coming to KD as I've never ridden it...I'd be disappointed (and surprised) if it's lamer than Hydra.

I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Another case where I'm the weird one.

Yeah, but I'm usually just as weird. Hopefully not in this case. :)

I thought Hydra was 'fun' - not a great coaster, but a fun one.

Dominator took me a couple visits to really come to like it. The first visit I was kinda like ????????? Then I got to apreciate it's really steep curving drop, High speed curve and airtime that make it different.

Medusa however I fell in love with the first visit to SFGADV. So much so, I claimed it as the parks only redeeming quality ride.

Chuck, who'd take Kumba over both of them but it's not floorless nor does it need to be One reason I like it better is VISUALS from any seat and not just the front.

Same although I haven't ridden as many as you have. The first drop is phenomenal, as are the first loop and that low overbanked turn around the cobra roll. After the opening salvo I can take or leave everything else. For me the lack of a zero-g-roll really kills it. Not that it's a "bad" coaster or anything.

Exactly. It's not bad by a long shot.

There's a video on youtube somewhere that has some good POV footage,I was suprised how shaky the ride was though when I watched it so hopefully the trains will get a full rehab prior to opening.
Kraken being my favorite Dominator my second fav.

I enjoyed Dominator but felt it was missing one element (a zero-G roll) and, at the same time had one element that sorely needed to me missing: an odd vibration, as if the rails weren't smooth. This is the same vibration felt on Scream, SFNE's Batman, and other B&M floorless coasters built around the same time.

Exactly- it's missing the one element that really defines the floorless coasters. Still, aside from Hydra (which didn't do much for me), you really can't go wrong with one of these rides. It's no Kraken but it's far from being a bad ride.

You are my polar opposite, let's hope we never come in contact or we might cancel each other's existence... ;)

My "list", in order of preference:
S:KC, Dominator, Medusa West, Kraken, Medusa East/Scream, B:KF, Hydra (wow that thing went downhill even before the lift, LOL).

I'm not a huge fan of interlocking corks, but the first half of Dominator is great. It's too bad the second half wasn't quite as inspired. Medusa West is my favorite floorless, but I haven't made it to San Antonio yet. Hopefully this year...
