Dollywood.com now has a Thunderhead progress page

I like the name Thunderhead.

It means Super-Cell Thunder Storm in the Smoky Mountain twist of English.

Actually, I find the name quite fitting, especially as applied to a wooden coaster. BTW -- Thunderhead usually in my experience refers to thunderstorms' clouds, which means that if Dollywood themes the paint job to the name, they might have one of the rare wooden coasters that is neither white nor brown; that would be a refreshing change.

Dollywood has confirmed that the coaster's color will be the traditional brown/brown.

Also, the name is the name of the logging company who owns the 'logging train' your ridding in.

Dollywood Updated there Construction Page today.

The Footers have been laid, and the digging seems to be over with.

Wood & Nails have also arrived.

Despite the bad weather in Sevier county lately, things seem to be moving right along. Just think, Dollywood's coaster will be going vertical before most other parks have evan started Construction! (Of Course, they have to start early due to snow in that area normally falling in early November!)

------------------

I really wish you could enlarge those construction pics on the website. I think this coaster is gonna be really good for Dollywood. I truly commend them on embarking on such an ambitious project. This is a must visit park for me now.

Herschend Family Enterprises owns SDC, CC, and other smaller attractions in Branson, MO. They co-own DW along with Dolly Parton, and they operate Stone Mountain in Georgia.

Thats a lot of footers.

BTW, Does anyone know why Slidewinder closed on Labor Day this year? I know SDC does this, so maybe Dollywood has started as well.

Dukeis#1,there is no explanation for that anywhere. All of DW's other water rides don't close til Nov. 1 (Blazing Fury is now open season long).Try emailing DW.

On Friday we rode the train to discover that the Lift Hill and and the 2nd Hill are in Place and are up. They seemed to be pouring the Conscrete Pad for the Station or Storage Shed.

I'm also surprised at the speed of Construction. I think there trying to get the big part of it done before the coldness of Winter sets in.

From what I've heard, The Mountain Slidewinder is now only an "Overflow" attraction, meaning that it will only operate during peak season from May-August. Apparently there also doing some sort of renovation on it this Winter. I'm assuming this is similar to what happend to it's Prototype at SDC. (Or that is what it sounded like from a park employee at the River Rampage)

In that one pic, the sign reads "The Thunderhead," but we can still call it whatever we want.
