Do your parents & friends think you're a little to

I find it interesting when I go to parks and start talking about things that I think are common knowledge, only to find out that they aren't.

Ex:  The difference between a zero-g roll and a corkscrew or what an OTSR or MCBR or even suspended vs. inverted vs. floorless.

People also think I'm making stuff up when I talk about X or even stealth/X-Flight/batwing/air/S:UF.

The legend lives!

My brother everyday complains about something i do and usually its about my interest in coasters. Lately he's been complaining that I'm gonna be spending so much money just to go to ACE's Coastercon and ride a coaster. Which he thinks I'm goin out to LA to ride just one (since me and my friend always talk about X) and not the other 20+ at the 3 defferent parks.

Not really.  I am not as obsessed as it may seem.  I talk a good game on coaster related boards and in enthusiast conversations.  But that is mostly restricted to fellow coaster buffs.  Outside the net and my friendships in the enthusiast community, I rarely discuss coasters or parks.

People at work are somewhat curious about me visiting many parks.  If I take time off, I always get asked which park I am headed to.  But that is about the extent of it.

My apartment has very little coaster related parifanalia displayed.  My wardrobe consists of very few coaster -related shirts.  I am not a big fan of wearing clothing from parks, unless I am visiting a park.  I do have an ACE sticker on my car's rear windshield, but it is not one with some phrase, just the logo.

Coasters and parks are not an obsession for me.  They fascinate me, but I spend much more time on other things.  That happens when you get old and other things like work take priority ;-)

My family just accepts it.  But really they do not care where I have been or what I have ridden.  My Dad is more intrigued than anyone, but I don't really go into detail.  He does always tell me to keep it up if I enjoy it.  he says it keeps me out of trouble.  He's right!

It's good, clean, honest, moral fun.  No one can or should argue or make fun of that.

Everyone thinks I'm a little too obsessed.  They just don't understand!  My husband is trying to figure it out - he thinks it may be something deep and psychological etc - but hey, all I know is a really enjoy roller coasters!  My summer trip to CP this June - with my folks and the hubby and his sister - I'm seriously counting down the days! :-D

My wife is a non coaster rider so if she could get a gag order against me talking coaster talk she would. I tend to be overly obsessed with any hobby I have so this isnt the only thing I drive her crazy with.

But my friend's parents and brother are the worst of all.  They are always complaining that he's wasting his time and once you've ridden one, you've ridden them all.  They also complain about the fact that they think he's wasting money.  I guess they just don't see it the right way.  =)

Yeah especially my brother (I'm the friend that SWIMDEJ is talking about). He complains that i'm going. But if I'd stay home he would probably be complaining that i have no life and i don't do anything.

Millennium Force......It has its ups and downs.

Outside of planning trips with friends to visit parks and throwing in some helpful tips on certain parks I usually don't talk coasters with friends that haven't gone on any road trips with me.  Its kind of embarrasing being in a fish bowl whenever anything is on, and then getting crap about it so I just don't talk about it much in public.

Some people collect coins, cards, or whatever.
Some people play gold, play football, or bowl.
Some people sew, knit, or crochete.
I ride...

That's the kind of thing that I tell people who don't understand my "hobby".  Almost everyone has a passion in life like football, stamp collecting, camping/hikeing, music, performing, ect. ect ect.; the list is virtually endless.  This was the way I got my parents to understand.  They go camping almost every weekend so I just compared theme park visiting to that.

My 64-yr-old Dad is an ACE member, so he "gets" my hobby.  And frankly I think Mom is happy to get him outta the house occasionally...LOL!
Everybody who knows me thinks I am wacko, I don't care.  They say if I tried half as hard at school I would actually get decent grades, it's too bad school isn't half as interesting to me.  Oh well, they are the ones missing out...

I have the same problem, I am on the net,

"Oh no, coasters again?" thats what someone will always say.

Everyone asks "Whats so cool about them"

I am known as the coaster guy at my school. I have been told so many times to shut up about coasters that I can't even count that much! It would be so cool to have a girlfriend who loves coasters as much as me, but none of my girlfriends really give a damn about coasters.
