We were talking to Tony this past Sunday. He said they would start taking it down on November 2nd. To me this sounded like they wanted the space cleared ASAP. I also mentioned how nice a GCI would look in this spot. His reply was "you never know".

Well, I just looked at the satellite view of the Demon Drop site again, and I think I am about 80% certain what is going to replace Demon Drop, and I am about 90% certain that most people here are not going to like it.

My prediction is that Demon Drop will be replaced with a fence, said fence to run from the edge of the restroom/rental building to the corner of the gift shop, completely blocking the midway that runs alongside Demon Drop. That will turn that entire space into a service area. That might even restore some of the parking that they lost when they built the administration building.

Yes, but will it be a wooden fence or a steelie? Let the discussion begin!

If you guys remember, there's a big service area behind the Observation Tower.

According to screamscape(take that how you will), demon drop may NOT end up at knotts after all. I guess there has been a backlash of some sort from the park and public about recieving a used drop ride that the "park down the road" just got rid of. Besides that, they already have a top notch drop tower as it is.

Here is whats interesting.....

I guess michigans adventure was the runner up on the list to recieve the ride if the knotts deal went bad.

I also hear that kinzel was not too happy that the news leaked about the ride leaving cedar point.

Again....these are just rumors posted on a rumor web site. There is no solid proof of this, but interesting none the less.

I'm totally with you, coasterqueenTRN! When SF GAdv lost Stuntman's Freefall I was "floored". Now that I'm in LA I'd love to be able to ride an Intamin 1st gen whenever I want.

Please bring it over!!

The only way to KEEP a secret...secret....is to not tell anyone. ;)

Seriously though, when is "the old guard" going to recognize that the speed that information travels is now limitless. The genie is NOT going back into that bottle.

Why would Kinzel care? Demon Drop has been for sale for a couple of years so the fact it is being removed shouldn't come as a total shock. Fact that it was leaving at the end of the year may have brought a few folks to CP to ride it one more time who might otherwise not have visited on the last couple of weekends of the season. Does he think they will lose out on advance ticket sales because DD isn't there? And its not like folks weren't going to notice the ride isn't there next season (or that there is a crane there now taking it down).

I would imagine he was probably more unhappy that the news leaked out about where DD was going to.

It had nothing to do with the news being leaked. CF was unhappy with the negative press. The LA Times and other local news outlets covered it in a less-than-favorable light and mentioned it was a ride the park's competition had removed a few years ago because it was outdated. And let's be honest: it got mixed reviews on the coaster forums too.

It was that combo that lead to the change of plans...oops, I mean alledged change of plans.

I would much rather ride a 1st gen. Intamin freefall than most newer models. Again, like some old coasters, they feel like a ride. They make noise, and are just more fun in general. Plus, being one of the last of it's kind around makes it that much more 'hot' in my mind.
