Delirium A.K.A "sellout"

KC was a fun ride. I loved it just seeing my brother in pain and walking funny after he got off. He was glad to see it go. I will have fond memories of it.

I never rode KC, but it didnt look like it would have been that great of a ride, was it really that good? It looks short and rough?

------------------
If you haven't rode Raging Bull in the back row you haven't lived. The feeling on that first drop cannot be explained in words!

I don't know how something looks rough, but I didn't think it was rough in the slightest (of course, this comes from someone who claims SOB as being smooth ;)) and short isn't one of the first words that come to mind to describe it. Airtime, trick-track, forceful, dreamy,... those words do though. I can see how some might not like it much, because the restraints are rather odd. I hope the rumor about Magic Springs being interested in it was true. No coaster deserves to be Drachen Fired.

I think we should be praising Paramount for adding flat rides. God knows they need them. Standups in general just aren't all that fun. BFSFA, I'm kind of with you a little bit about the colors on Shockwave, but, before the park just looked really blah in my opinion..Anaconda and Shockwave were both a dark green.

Danny, are you kidding me....Magic Springs? That would be awesome...:):):). They're already sitting on a coaster I need (Jill's got me on the Arkansas Twister, she rode it at Boardwalk and Baseball), and I can't have a *pseudo-enthusiast* in the house with coasters I don't have...which of course will also someday take us to Valleyfair!

(/begin begging) But Magic Springs with KC...that is an excellent idea (whose time may have come)...PLEASE, Paramount, don't let the best darn Togo in N. America "go away", either ship immediately to *your other park* (TM- TM) or SELL it. PLEASE! A great coaster should *not* sit idle, and I understand it wasn't the easiest coaster to maintain, but if it's worth it for SOME park, it should run.....:). Thanks! (/end begging)

I was never a fan of King Cobra. If I recall the Togao stand up at PCW was the best of the lot.

In terms of safety record King Cobra did put a couple of people in intensive care during it's first few months when a wheel failed. The Shockwave death was gross rider misbehaviour. And, the guy must have been a contorsionist to have gotten out of the restraints.

Technically though both trains were very similar if not identical. I presume that Paramount will use the parts from KC to keeps its other 2 Togo stand ups going for a few more years.

After watching the video on Huss's website, I cannot wait to ride this thing. I think this is a ggod move for PKI.
Shockwave @ PKD's original color scheme was always black & yellow & the trains were originally black& yellow as well.

I never recalled seeing SW painted green at all,the only green coasters in the park were Anaconda & Scooby Doo.

Were KC and Skyrider clones? I know SkyRider and Shockwave are practically clones ;) , but I didn't know. Heheh no offense (thus the reason for the ;) ), I'm over that now and I hope you are too. See the "track records with anomalies" thread if anyone doesn't understand...

They are all pretty much clones. They all have different track lengths, but the layout is the same.

My friends and I hardly ever road the ride. I don't know why. I suppose it was because the line was always long looking and it wasn't that much of a thrill to us. But, when I finally road it I liked it. It wasn't the best coaster in the park but it was good enough to fill up time.

I think Delirium is a good choice. Last year me and the Shagster would battle, I guess you would say, about what "pardo our dust" ment and why PKI should and should not get a coaster. I never would of thought that I would actually like the idea of more flat rides. But, this is looking good and I am looking forward to more but I still want a coaster. A BIG coaster. Not only Delirium but freaking Scooby Doo looks awesome. That alone made me re-think my decision of getting a pass to PKI instead of the Beach this year.

Err, thats every year pal. Nothing new.

At No Coaster someone asked Jeff S. about King Cobra and he said that it was removed and scrapped due to the ride nearing life expectancy. Also for anyone interrested, I asked Jeff if they were planning to remove the Premier trains on Sonny and he said "Not at this time". He also said they were making some improvements to them although I can't remember what they were.

Millennium Force - Any other questions?

Sorry BFSFA, but my picture of Shockwave from 1994 shows a dark green coaster with yellow rails. Sky Pilot also had roughly the same color.

I think Shaggy mentioned that PKI has a new personal and that he enjoys themeing but if that is the case, maybe they remove King Kobra because it didn't really fit the Action Zone look and all the news about it being to old is a cover up? I dunno, they could have moved it behind Tomb Raider and gave it some themeing like Tomb Raider. That might of looked neat.

King Cobra is spelt with a "C" not a "K" at the beginning of "Cobra"

So you believe that you are studying us, then kindly explain why you are the ones trapped in your seats.

King Cobra at PKI basically had two "twin" brothers you might say.

King Cobra was built in 1984.

Canada's Wonderland added Skyrider the following season in 1985.

Kings's Dominion added Shockwave in 1986.

KC and Skyrider were identical twins standing 92 feet high, with an 84 foot drop and 2,210 feet of track. The layout curves under itself and each feature(d) a unique-to-a-steel-coaster trick track.

Shockwave was a fraternal twin that stands 92 feet high, with an 84 foot drop but is longer with 2,231 feet of track. Shockwave is longer because it has a unique after-helix finale than it's two predicessors. Instead of doubling under itself, the second portion of the ride lies to the left of the lift. In other words, it occupies a much wider foot-print. Shockwave does not have a trick track.

I believe Skyrider shared the same color scheme as King Cobra, whereas Shockwave was dark blue with yellow track when it opened.

King Cobra was a name actually used by KD prior to PKI choosing it for the standup. KD had a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop called King Kobra.... that is probably why people confuse the spellings. KI actually polled guests with various name choices for the standup coaster and had a contest to decide the name. The overwhlming choice was King Cobra.

King Cobra, by the way, has not been scrapped. It was removed in-tact and is stored on property. As of right now, there are no plans to re-locate it elsewhere.

ok. Thanks for clearing that up Shaggy! I actually enjoyed the tricktrack on SkyRider, it was pretty fun.

I-Fan I've got pics from a trip to PKD in 95 showing SW in black & yellow,I've also got a postcard that I picked up that same year in the park showing the track in black & yellow with the same color scheme used on the trains.

By 95 they decided to change the original black & yellow paint scheme of the trains to blue & yellow which now is orange paint on the body work with the same blue/yellow paint scheme on the vertical uprights for the seat & restraints.

If the main reason behind KC's removal was because it was reaching the end of it's viable lifespan then I suspect it won't be too much longer before we see SW & Sky rider get the axe as well due to the same problem, which opens up all sorts of possibilities for future attractions.

Just to make sure it wasn't a color processing problem, the trees and bushes in the picture are also green. The train, although far away at the first drop, looks like it's blue with yellow harnesses. The spine entering the loop is black, but coming out it's an olive green color. All the supports share this color. Again, this could be a photolab error, but I'm not sure how. It's very bright in my picture (but not overexposed), and it's very possible that a lot of sun exposure had occurred, fading the black paint since its installation.

If you wish to see Shockwave in it's original colors, look here. These are pics from the 1986, 1987 and 1992 seasons.

Also just for fun, I uploaded a OLD pic of PKI's King Cobra when it was still in testing stages in Japan. The coaster was fully assembled there, ridden, then dis-assembled and moved to KI for installation. While in Japan, the ride was not even secured by footers... thus KC could also lay claim to the worlds first portable stand up ;)
