RIP !!!!
There is no such thing as a terrible Coaster just ones that haven't been taken care of
Dick Knoebels, getting a hi-five from me (again!)....Whirlwind may not have been anything *fantastic*, but he got what he could for it and the ride gets a new lease on life...I'll guarantee some of the riders in the new park DO think it's fantastic! :)
It'd be nice if other parks/chains took that attitude, no telling if PKI's King Cobra or PGA's Anton coulda lived to thrill again...:(
...and did you see some of the asking prices on some of the used coasters!?? Anyone who woulda paid 4.5M for DF would've spent too much time sampling the fine Busch products, LOL...;)
You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)
(Sometimes duplicated - never matched)
2 - Swiss Bobs - Great Adventure
(Sad to see that one in Kennywood is now gone)
3 - Condor - Great adventure
(Unusual program, but fun)
4 - Jumbo Jet - Wildwood (Morey's Pier)
(Lot's of leg-room, comfortable and ocean views)
5 - The Funhouse (Rockaway Playland)
(The ones in the traveling fairs don't come close)
Actually, Great adventure's defunct rides would make a nice line-up at any park.
(Super Sidewinder - Calypso - Trabent - Scrambler)
Kiddie Ride Honorable Mention:
The whip at "Buddies" (Fairyland in Brooklyn)
Caterpiller at Palisaides Amusment Park - New Jersey
Here's To Shorter Lines & Longer Trip Reports!
The Flying Scooters, The Scrambler, the Muzak Express, and that robot that used to shoot at people.
The robot isnt a ride but i used to like it when i was young.
Also does Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall count, cause that ride never runs.
I wish i could help you here more but im a newbie. But i wish you luck on your report.

LOL, RGB...so I didn't mean it to be a comment on the Busch products themseleves....more of a query on "What would it take for someone to pay those outrageous sums for coasters that weren't even *eu-functional* at their parks of origin?"....;)
If I started listing all of my "defuncted" flats, I'd never get ANY work done today...;)
I'm not poking fun at you, just offering some constructive criticism. I know a few educators at both the college and high school levels who make their students do a lot of writing. If you handed any of them a paper that contained the phrases "have rode" or "defunctional," it would be your ass that would be defunct, with a capital F.
So let me ask you, what is your report going to contain? You got quite a list of rides from the posters here. What are you going to do with that information? Are you going to do more research on the rides-- maybe find out how long they were in use, and why they became defunct? That would be an interesting report if you did that.
So how are we defining defunct? Any ride that has been removed from a park we visit-- even though there are dozens of the same ride at other parks? Or are we talking about extinct species-- rides that don't exist in any park anymore? I suppose any old wooden coaster that's been removed would qualify, since each is one unique to its park.
My contribution?
Lost River (dark boat ride) and The Bug (large version of existing junior bug) from Hershey Park.
Journey to the Center of the Earth (dark boat ride), Whacky Shack (walk through funhouse) both from Dorney Park.
San Francisco Earthquake, Double Ferris Wheel from CP. BTW, does the Zugspitz still exist? I just like saying that name. Nothing like talking about a defunct Zugspitz.
Any ride that was at defunct Lakewood Park. (Wild Mouse, Looper, Flyers, Laff in the Dark, Hey Dey, Lindy Loop, Octopus, Dodgems, Carousel [now in Grand Rapids MI], Train, and a bunch of kiddie rides.)
Captain Nemo's underwater ride at Disneyland.
Gator, I don't disagree with you there. Just think "fine" and "Busch products" is somewhat of an oxymoron.
Thank you for listing your fav defunct (as in torn and removed/gone) and dysfunctional (the coasters that operate like crap) ect. :)
I have a question about the report because your description wasn't clear. Which list is correct?
1] The history of amusement parks.
2] How amusement parks affect us.
3] How defunt rides affect customers.
4] New Rides.
5] Waterparks.
6] Customer Service.

I'll take the second one, although those topics will be narrowed down...on a more deeper level of thought. If I can find the right rescources I should be ok. Thanks for your interest in my report.
