Family Guy is crap. Any show based on swearing and crude jokes can't possibly be the best show ever.
The Simpsons, especially in seasons 4-8, always has something satirical to say about society. Best. Show. Ever.

Yeah, Den, you sure you've seen Family Guy? I don't recall much, if any, swearing at all.
South Park on the other hand...
Joe, whose favorite Simpsons episode is when over gains weight solely to get on disability from work...CLASSIC!

I feel somewhat better now. There WERE apparently lots of you who also loved "Family Guy". Shesh, where I'm from, I was about the only guy who even knew about it. Then there's coasters too.. Hmm.. I see the trend.
Den? Swearing? Family Guy? Sure, they said "damn" and "ass", but have you watched "King of the Hill"??

I'm not an enthusiast, I just play one on message boards.
There is more cussing on "Law and Order" than there ever was on "Family Guy". And th ejokes were far from crude. If anything, they were too subtle for the casual viewer to catch.
And I dont care what anybody says, Al Bundy was my TV *hero* (You know he once scored 4 touchdowns in one game....)

"Sunshine, daisies, butter-mellow! Turn this stupid fat rat yellow!"
4 touchdowns...in a single game? Wow, that must be some kind of *Poke High* record...
anyone who catches the reasoning behind the alternative spelling of Polk High gets an additional extra credit in MWC101, and can move on to the *advanced class*....
Chiming in late, but couldn't possibly resist when there is a mostly unseen, but legendary show that never caught on to defend. That show is Family Guy. The most amazing piece of cutting edge, dangerously real comedy on television ever. I have never actually laughed out loud watching television, nor comics live in person, but Family Guy had me clammoring to find the record button on my VCR (which I never use). It was groundbreaking, and disturbingly close-to-home hitting stuff, and I think those that caught it and/or "got" it were all the better for it. I still miss it, and watch my old taped episodes regularly. If anyone remembers the episode when Lois inherits her aunt's home, and they do a musical vignette that is more than a little referential, or when Peter demands that Lois allows him to "get anal" only to find him referring to how clean their kitchen is, they have been witness to stuff that is iconic. Sadly, Family Guy will only be remember as a second rate show by those that didn't get it, and those that thought, wrongly, that it was "another stupid cartoon." Boy, were they wrong.
Thank God for the eventual DVD releases. They are already available in Europe.:(

That's exactly what I thought when it first came out, but I soon found out I was wrong. Now I even have a giant poster of the entire family at my house. It will be worth something some day. ;)
And by the way, I am not a fan of King of the Hill, which is just not that funny in my opinion. And Futurama is okay, not as good as the Impsons (ha sucks for the Impson Family!) or of course Family Guy.
Long live Petoria!

I hate to agree with you after the Family Guy diss, but I thought I was the only one who thought the "middle years" of the Simpsons were far superior to the rest. It seems like the general opinion is that the show started great and has slowly dwindled ever since the first few seasons. I think it started slow and promising & hit it's stride and peak of greatness in the middle years (I might even go a hair later than you, seasons 5 - 9 or so)
Plus you have the TMBG signature, so you have to be cool.
