I think you meant to say that a mediocre coaster at CP is on the same level as a great coaster at any other park, didn't you?

Blue Streak-An excellent classic out and back. Great air time especially in the front seat. A couple camelbacks that really throw you up. Nice, fast, and pretty smooth.

Mean Streak-A great addition to the park in theory but was too fast and bumpy. As a way to make it less bumpy trims were added to the first hill. The bumps just seem bigger now because you go over them slowly. This is an enourmous coaster that has many turns but lacks in airtime and overall thrill.

Magnum-Wow, what a great coaster. Back seat has the shear exiliration of speed, especially down the first hill, into the tunnels, etc. The back is a little rough if you don't like the speed. Front seat...awesome! Tons of air time and real speed coming out of the tunnels and into the turn in the back.

Raptor-This one is real similar to Batman but lacks the intensity. The footprint is larger so there are more opportnities for helixes, drops and loops. This is my 2nd favorite of the park. This has a great 6-10 ft drop at the end that is unexpected before the helix and gives you the feeling your feet will hit the gravel. I think you will enjoy this one a lot. Hit it as much as possible. The lines fill up fast because it is at the front of the park.

WT-Still new and down a lot for tweaking.

Millenium Force-Shear speed!! This ride has unique seats by Intamin that are similar to tiered theater seating. The second row is always higher than the first. Each rider has their own seat. The first drop is killer because you really never see the bottom of the track until you are there and see it going up the turn. This one is fast, smooth, great views, some great airtime on the 2nd and 3rd hill and even a little on the 4th going back to the station. If you get stuck waiting 2 hours stop back at around 7pm. They forget to change the time of wait on the sign. If the line is only to the candy/pop machines with all ques open it is only an hour (3 trains running)

Gemini-Classic wooden structure with steel track. Really smooth, great helix at the end, great head choppers in 2 spots. Great air time in the front, fast in the back of course. More fun when both trains are running and they race. This ride lost popularity when Magnum arrived naturally but it is to any enthusiests advantage because it is great.

Cedar Creek Mine ride-steel track, smooth. This one has been around a while and is just fun because it goes over the lagoons and offers a great helix at the end.

Wildcat-built by http://schwarzkopf.coaster.net this one is one of his classic thrillers. The wildcat is fast and really close to the track because each little car only holds 4 people. It is similar to a mouse roller coaster but is much faster and has some great drops and a fast helix. Watch the end, the stop is hard and fast!

Disaster Transport-Hmm..Did Intamin make a mistake by ever manufactering bobsled type rides? The lack general intensity and are relatively short. I believe this is the last existing one. To add excitement to this ride Cedar Point decided to cover it in a few large buildings and add special effects and themed it a space ride. The tubes are covered in between the buildings to keep you in the dark. Cedar Point doesn't like wasting money so instead of tearing down the lame ride they covered it to make it more appealing. It is ok now. Good starter for a 46" tall starter to begin on.

Iron Dragon-Kind of a newer idea back when it was built. This one is only good in the front seat. There is usually not too bad of a wait for it. The speed is not great until the helixes at the end. There is also a mist that on a good day blocks you view so you don't know where you are going next. This is a great ride again ONLY IN THE FRONT! The train is suspended, however you are in a car where you can't hang your feet out.

I think I covered everything. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this classic park. It is a big dog and will require at least 1 day if not 2 if you want to get the fullest out of it.

Tell me you wouldn't be pleased to death if a "Mantis" clone were built at your home park (wherever that is).

I wouldn't, because I don't like stand-ups.

While not my favorite park, I love the Point. It hs a great atmosphere. IB and HW are great parks, but don't miss the Point. Millie is worth it for the drop, Maggie is just plain goodness, and I think it's the best in the park, Mantis is great-it's B&M, same with Raptor, although I do think you will prefer Alpie in the end. Wicked Twister, well, I haven't personally ridden this one, but after orgasmic rides on SFGAm's V2, I'd expect a V2 on steroids from this ride. Blue Streak is a great Woodie, and personally Mean Streak isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be (not the smoothest of the bunch, but hey, it's a woodie).Draggin' Iron, well the name says it all, and last but not least don't miss the other attractions. CP has a great collection of flats, and the reason it is one of the top parks is not simply because of their coaster collection-the flats have a big say in that ranking.

Raptor is not all that much like Alpengiest. I have ridden both, I prefer Alpengiest because its a lot more intense and has stronger G Forces. Keep in mind when I rode Alpengiest I just got back from the Festhaus and I had a little too much beer. :)

To some people on here Mantis hurts because they haven't figured out that it is a ride you stand up on. They say Mean Streak hurts because they expected it to be smooth. My rundown of these rides--

Disaster Transport--The queue sucks. Flat out. At least the ride does make up for it, I'd rather have it uncovered as it was built in '85 as Avalanche Run.

WildCat--only part of this coaster I dislike is the whiplash brake at the end, otherwise something good to go on.

Iron Dragon--Yes it is slow, but something I find fun to ride...just make sure you sit near the front.

Corkscrew--for me the only comfy place is the front seat. A little rough but a classic.

Blue Streak--My first ever coaster. Airtime. Classic. Let me say again, CLASSIC.

Raptor--smooth, dis-orienting the first time I went on it. Hit the Cobra Roll and lost all sense of where I was til we hit the station.

Mantis--superb. You bashers heard me right. Never have my legs ached from this ride.

Mean Streak--I may crave some Advil for a slight headache, but I have extra padding around my midsection that absorbs MS' anger.

Magnum--Rough, yes. Also 13 years old. Still a classic in my book. This is a must ride.

MF--The best, no doubt. Smooth, speed. No airtime because it was not designed for airtime.

WT--N/A

Jr. Gemini--only if you have a kid with you.

Woodstock Express--rode it last year, really surprised me.

Gemini--'nuff said.

CCMR--another coaster that gets the cold shoulder. Another family coaster that I find thrills on still.

Bottom line...Love the park, love the coasters. To you whiners out there that say "CP's prob the only park you been to." I say you are wrong, I have been to Geagua Lake, PKI, WDW, but I don't have the time nor money to ride coasters every day of my summer.

Go there and form your own opinion,

Take it from me, you will have the time of your life at CP.

CP is more than coasters though, I do not know about you but there is nothing better than driving up the causeway and seeing for the first time all the coasters just awaiting you.

There is no greater feeling than walking up the midway in the morning and hearing that famous Raptor roar.

Go to CP and if you do not like it you do not have to come back.

Have fun at "America's Roller Coast"

I've been to Cedar Point a number of times and let me say I think all the coasters are great. Yes, even Mean Streak which though a little rough isn't near as awful as most would have you believe. It still has a huge ridership so that speaks for itself how popular it is. Besides wood coasters are supposed to be a bit shaky. Just go enjoy and ride yourself silly my friend!!!! =-)

I second that OmahaCPfan.

Coasters good or bad... the thing that makes Cedar Point "special" IMO is the the feeling you get walking down the midway, the smell of french fries(or insert your favorite food), the roar of the coasters, the wonderful view of Lake Erie, the feeling you get driving down the causeway(or even driving up to the causeway), and the list goes on.

Just go and have fun. Trust me, you won't get bored - you could easily spend two days at the place.

I just posted up my trip report for my visit there about a week and a half ago, so you can see my thoughts on the park.

But CP is a park that is well worth visiting. It's easily in my top 5 big parks and top 10 overall parks. Where? I dunno cause I don't rank em, but it's more than worth the visit.

If you like flat rides, they've got a bunch of great and fun ones.

Coasters that I consider excellent: Millenium Force, Blue Steak (an awesome little woodie, especially in seat 1.3), Wicked Twister. Raptor can be except for that last turn into the breaks. As long as you're prepared for it, it's a good coaster. And Gemini if they are racing it I'm sure is a blast.

Also there is nothing wrong with Magnum, Disaster Transport, and Cedar Creek. They're fun coasters in their own right. They may not be outstanding anymore due to aging, but certainly not shoddy either.

Honestly, the only one you'd be cheating by not going would be yourself. Go. You'll be more than happy you did.

(that whole thing probably comes as a shock to those who have assumed that I hate CP to. )

-------------
Sometimes it's up. Sometimes it's down.
But with God, life is one thrill ride that you'll never regret being on.

IF you decide not to go it will be a big mistake. Thats all I can say.
I have been going to CP for all of my life. And while i've watched it grow from a relativly local park in the early eighties to the draw it is today, there is a part of me that was becomeing somewhat tired of the park. It was becomeing less personal, rides were being trimmed down to appeal to the public, and the overall feeling of the park was in my mind changing. But it still is my home park and my favorite.

But yesterday (for Coastermania) i had my best visit to the park in about six years.

MS was running faster and more comfortable than in years (ride the second to last seat)

Magnum and Raptor were faster than ever and even a little rough. They ran like they were just taken out of the wrapping.

Gemini has always been one of my favorites. Good pops of air in places and with the trims entering the helix turned off it has one great ending.

Even BS has been runnning better than in recent years.

And is there anything to say about the Force??

All in all every coaster has something good to offer. Are all of the rides top ten?? No. Can any of the coasters be placed into another park and be its best?? No. But the variety and quality of the rides are among the best. Period.

And remember, rides like the Dragon and Disaster Transport are meant to be younger rides. They all can't go 90 mph.

I'm with you on the possibility of riding raptor and not being very thrilled. I've been to the Point only once and throughly enjoyed the park and most rides, however Raptor I found flat out boring. It lacks the intensity of Batman and the Majestic floating of Alpengeist. Mantis is one of my favorites. I've never been a standup fan. I guess because I had never been on mantis before. Blue streak is great fun, as are Magnum, Wildcat, Gemini, Disastor Transport, and Cedar Creek. Mean streak must be experienced at least once, as long as your prepared you'll enjoy it. Corkscrew and Iron Dragon pass, there are better versions other places. Power Tower ,only if no line and only launch downward, the launch up is so tall it's boring, nice view of the lake though. GO! Have fun. Great park enjoy the whole place and atmosphere not just the coasters!!
I would MUCh rather be at Holiday World and Indiana Beach myself, but Cedar Point is a park that must be experienced at least once, so one can form their own opinions, as I did... ;)

Every park has a handfull of things people exspect that they cant offer, or things the average person dosent see, but coaster enthusist dose see which makes it seem like it wont be worth going to,but when I went to cedarpoint in 2000 I loved it, the park was so huge, there was so many rides, and things to do it takes more then two days, and the only thing that truly disapoited me was the trim on meanstreak, but other wise there was nothing wrong with the park, and the trim on mantis is prop a good thing becuase if not you would be going trou the ride so fast it would hurt, and the ride was still thrilling. I also heard wickedtwister is closed, but its better to be safe then sorry, I plan on visiting them again this summer on the 26,27 and 28 im sure I will have a great time.Plus I also have to say there crowd control is the best iv ever seen at any park!, hopfly it hasent changed since 2000.(hopfuly wickedtwister will be open by then)
Well, thankyou for all your input, but I still am not convinced being the wooden thrill seeker I am. I have changed my plans and am going to IB and HW. I am much more excited to tell you the truth. I was worried about missing out on Chaos and PowerTower, but IB will crave that feeling. My plans are now to drive to IB and spend a half day there, drive to HW the following day and spend a half day there, and the next full day (hopefully this way I can get a few rides on ZOOMbabwe), and then drive home. Sounds like CP really is a great park and I'll be sure to make the "Ohio circle" in 3 years, it'll be tough, but I think I can do it. Thanks once again, I hope you don't feel your time was wasted.

While Cedar Point not my favorite park, it is definitely worth going to.

Magnum is one of my two favorite steel coasters. Those bunny hills at the end are sweet. I'd go to CP if this even if this was the only coaster they had.

Mantis is a great ride to go on. I could ride it over and over. It's a little crazy at times, but isn't that why you're riding coasters instead of playing golf?

Raptor is fun, not one of my favorites, but that's just my taste. It makes a lot of top 10 lists and is definitely worth the wait.

Millenium Force IMHO is the most overrated coaster of all time. Aafter the drop, it exerts fewer forces on your body than many of the kiddie coasters I've been on. Although that lift, then going over the top and the near free fall is breathtaking. I like it, but it's not as good as advertised.

The Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a lot of fun, although often overlooked. I like how the first drop feels a little slow, but normal for a mine ride, then the second drop sneaks up on you and you get 'surprise' air time.

Mean Streak IMHO was a waste of money. I'm hoping (although I doubt it) that they just forgot to turn off the brakes on it the day that I went. It jostles you a little, but you keep anticipating more g-forces that never happen.

Blue Streak, Iron Dragon, and Gemini are nice starter rides for your day, and good rides for thinning out the crowd and taking your kids on. Can't really say that they're world class, but they have their moments and round out the collection very nicely.

Corkscrew is a waste of time unless it is literally a walk on. If you have to wait 2 minutes for it, don't bother. While it was cool when it was built (3 loops!) the novelty has worn off and would probably be torn out if CP wasn't obsessed with it's coaster count.

Power Tower was interesting, but I prefer the vertical freefall machines at other parks. I'd go on it for the experience, cause it is different then you'll get anywhere else, but that's it.

Haven't ridden Disaster Transport, but I've never heard a good word about it.

Haven't ridden Wicked Twister, or that other drop tower thingy (forget what it's called) but I'm sure they'd be good.

The flat rides selection is as good as any park outside of Pittsburgh, so don't miss out on that if you're there for 2 days. The food is pretty good and not as overpriced as most parks (although it is still a lot cheaper to bring a water bottle and a packed lunch)

Once again, while CP is not my favorite park, it is one of the top five parks in the country and definitely better than anything you'll find within 5 hours of your house in Milwaukee.

uUHhhhhh huhuh huhuh huh uhhh

Yeah! I was just too effusive of praise to straighten out my expression hehehe.

You will not be disappointed at Holiday World. Two great coasters and a 5 star water park. Then there's the free parking and all of thre free pop you can drink. Frienly ride ops and staff. Really clean park. Just can't say enough good things about it. Have a great time!!!!!!!

Congratulations on making a very good decision, considering your love of wood, in my opinion of course. ;)
