Cost of Flying Scooters?

If West View's went anywhere, it wasn't in 1971... they were there when the park closed in 1977.

They were quite "snappable" but the old guy running them would always scream at you for doing it and threaten to oust you, so the only way you could get away with it was when he wasn't working.

*Sigh*... as Mick Jagger said.."what a drag it is to get old".......I remember doing that way too well.

Another question:
I heard from a friend that apparently the Larson flyers are said to have structural issues (more like a design flaw if you ask me), making snapping bad for them, and thus why for instance Indiana Beach has a NO SNAPPING policy. Is this true? Why the heck would they be designed in such a way that a natural phenomenon like snapping could damage the ride?

I rode the Flyer at Knoebels 3 times this past weekend. I can't remember if I had ever ridden them before, even though I have been there many times. I rode once on Saturday, in the rain, and was getting a feel for the ride. I can't recall being on a Scooter that was as fast as that since the old Geauga Lake one, and I last rode that in the late 80's. It took me some time to remember how the heck to get the "snappage" factor going, and I finally figured it out just before the ride ended.

The next day was MUCH better. Came back with the whole family and took my son on it. Holy Mackeral! I rode it twice with him that day and the second ride was downright scary with the banging I had going on. I actually stopped doing it because I was getting scared! My son loved it though!

Rode two sets of scooters in Colorado over the weekend. The set at Santa's Workshop is awesome, but we had a nervous ride op and she kicked us off the ride. :)

And sadly, the reports of Lakeside's flyers sucking are 100% true. :( *** Edited 9/5/2006 7:47:14 PM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

Ok Darn it. You've made my mind up. Next year is a Lakeside trip!

Chuck, whos only met one set of scooters he couldn't snap. Seabreeze.

P.S. We did snap HW's flyers, Even got some WOWs from the kids in line when exiting yesterday. (Nothing major but I did hit the tree as well.

TR to come

Well two of my Colorado weekend coherts managed to hit a tree at Lakeside, but the ride still sucks big time. You only get about three revolutions at "full" power, then the next 20 are to come to a stop, as there is no braking system other than the ride op grabbing tubs and riders dragging their feet!

shorter powered cycle than HW's?

Wow, Maybe I wont

Chuck, who wants to visit Lakeside for other reason tho :)

West View's Flyers were indeed there until the park closed. It was then that they were sold to Idora and moved to the Ohio park which sadly closed several years after that. The ride was then in mothballs until KW overhauled it during the 1990s to put it in that park.

I thought the set that Knoebels just bought for replacements was from Idora?

So Chuck or anyone else, do you know anything about this alleged poblem with Larson scooters?

I don't know what the problem is Id imagine it hss something to do with the non flexibility of the support tower. Compared to a five sided A frame. A bolted down tower would likely over time pull the studs out. The juction of the tower and the turning structure should be simular in it's bearing to the old Bisch/Rocco. the support structure above should be built strong enough IMHO to support the flex created from snapping.
.
What I don't understand is, Why they just didn't build REPLICAS instead of building their own tower?

Was it cheaper to do it this way?

Makes no sence to me why you'd build a ride thats capable of such forces and not being able to withstand em.

Chuck, who honestly thinks the whole things a made up LIABILITY responce. Not that I actually know anyone who's been seriously injured on a scooter.

Knoebels' "spare" Flying Scooter ride was originaly used at Euclid Beach Park.
