Continued: Cedar Fair announces Geauga Lake will be water park only

As someone else pointed out, Maverick was pitched very much as everything you guys are talking about for wood coasters, and successfully at that. Regardless, the suggestion that a wood coaster was the answer to anything is not in tune with public taste. I'm not saying the public has good taste, but that's the reality of it.

Cedar Fair doesn't "choose to ignore" wood coasters as potential new rides (see: Renegade) as much as they're just gun shy about the maintenance. Who could blame them with the steaming pile of crap Mean Streak is, or Son of Beast for that matter. But take this to heart... a certain guy who will be the future CEO apparently LOVES Renegade. That can only bode well for the future.

I figured Renegade was a good fit for Valleyfair, and all Cedar Fair parks for that matter. I understand that GCII coasters generally require less maintenance because they're built so well. Mean Streak shouldn't turn them off to wood coasters- surely Blue Streak requires very little maintenance, and from what I remember, is an outstanding ride.
I suspect Hercules probably put a bad taste in their mouths as well.

That just sounds wrong, lol.
Come on guys! Don't bash Mean Streak so harshly!

I enjoy it, and enjoyed scareing the living tar out of a friend from the UK who'd never been on a woodie!

Now if CP would ditch Disaster Transport and the Ocean Stadium, they could put in a nice woody right there.

^^ Disastor Transport and the Aquatic Stadium are not next to each other. You have Wicked Twister and Giant Wheel between them.

Although I heard a rumor that Demon Drop is now sold and coming out this year. The other half of that rumor is that Ocean Motion would moved to DD's current spot. Now, aside from having the Beach entrance right there, those 2 parcels are adjacent and would give you a decent amount of proporty to work with. The beach entrance could be relocated to Ocean Motions current spot with some reconfiguration of the Coral Courtyard, or you could just have people walk in under what ever you put there.

Would it be possible to bring Coral Courtyard "into" the park, like the bayside picnic pavilion? If so, you could probably get away with eliminating the beach gate entirely.

The beach gate isn't just there for the Coral Courtyard. It's also for Beach access. Shocking I know. ;) *** Edited 10/22/2007 10:01:10 PM UTC by Jason Hammond***

So if Ocean Motion is supposably going where DD is, then what is going where Ocean Motion is? And where did you hear this about DD?

RIDE ON!

Like I said it was a rumor. It's someone that I'd give a little more credence to than the average Joe, but it's still a rumor.

In regards to what would go in Ocean Motions new spot. I have no idea. Possibly a 2009 attraction. He knows who he is, and if he want's to speak up, he will. I'll just leave it at that.

True, the beach is more convenient from that gate. But, except for the two-bit wave runner/parasail outfit, the beach generates no revenue, whereas Coral Courtyard does. ;)

I don't see Ocean Motion going to the front of the park. But, I've been wrong before.

But really, how old is Ocean Motion? Is it 15-20 years or more? Why would you make that ride a focal point at the front entrance?

I used to think it was overlooked. Then I saw a full queue with a line going down the midway Saturday.

I was there man, in the thick of it. Summer of 1980. Oceana and Ocean Motion in all their glory. Misty, Striker, Co Co, and Breeze. Good times.
Ocean Motion opened in 1981.

It sounds like everything had a line on Saturday.
They did and the lines for the food stands were just as bad.

Meh, it was only a 33 minute wait for a pretzel. Not that I was counting. :)
Having Ocean Motion as the first/second thing you see upon entering the park seems like a horrid idea to me. I hope that rumor isn't true.
