Soak City wasn't built for the people of Sandusky or even of Erie County. It was built predominantly for the folks who stay in Cedar Point Resorts to encourage an extra night's rental. That's it, plain and simple. (This also answers the oft-asked question on why admission to Soak City isn't included with a Cedar Point ticket.)
And I hardly think Soak City sucks. I think they could use a Master Blaster and a Flow Rider but they have an awfully good mix of attractions for kids and adults, including the swim up bar. *** Edited 10/16/2007 4:03:49 PM UTC by wahoo skipper***

I think some of you are really overstating how much people care. I mean, if they did, they would've been going to Geauga Lake in the first place, right? .It's been there for over a hundred years, I suggest you stop talking from your "dividend check area", and let people have their concerns.
Give that man a cigar....
Agreed... but....
I don't want to wish 'ill will' on Wildwater Kingdom at all. I would prefer SOME amusement venue remain operable in the area, if for no other reason than to pay tribute to what came before. Nor do I think WWK is going to cut into any Soak City business - Cedar Fair would have never opted to invest in a new waterpark if it would do that. As to whether or not a water park was the appropriate way to improve the numbers after the aquisition, well, time sure did prove them wrong.

Once ALL the slides from WWK get moved there, and the park is closed and the condos are built, and the campground is bulldozed, Cedar Points Soak City will be a destination Waterpark.
I seriously doubt Cedar (un)Fair will keep WWK running for more than a couple years.
Back off man. You're closing in on the hammer. Just because my concern is different doesn't mean I can't say whatever mine is, especially in my own house. Again, if people cared so much, where were they?

And Soak City won't compete with WWK anymore than GL did with Cedar Point. You keep bringing up this illogical "point" as if the company would ever care which pocket gets filled with money as long as they get the money. You make no sense.

I'm sure this lil' battle will rage on 'till next spring anyway. But I will say this to those who wail that CF is so mean, ugly, unethical, blah blah blah....
Busch Parks bailed on you first.
Six Flags bailed on you next.
Cedar Fair bailed on you last.
So at least start at the head of the line with the p***ing and moaning. Honestly.

I don't think Soak City and Wildwater Kingdom will compete with each other, but I'll never buy into the claims that Cedar Point and Geauga Lake were never in competition with each other. The idea that there was a Cedar Point crowd and a Geauga Lake crowd and no one ever had to decide between the two is completely unreasonable.

Isn't it fair that all of us be permitted to express our opinions, as long as we're not insulting you or anyone, I simply said that I believe your opinion is coming from your financial investment in Cedar (un)Fair rather than from a person interested in the future of their hobby.

Ok, but so what?
If they choose Cedar Point, the money goes to Cedar Fair.
If they choose Geauga Lake, the money goes to Cedar Fair.
That's not competition. Who is CF competing with?

First of all, is there really a need to put (un) in front of fair everytime you type it? Seems like a waste of time to me. Anyways, Geauga Lake's WWK probably won't be closing for a while, I know a ton of single waterparks out there with no resorts that have survived for years. AND there is no way at all that Soak City and WWK are in competition. CP is a resort and Soak City encourages people to stay at the resort and spend some of their time there. People do not just stay at the CP resorts JUST for Soak City, that's for sure. It just seems to me that you don't know what you're talking about OR you could be a SixFlags fan just bashing CF. Who knows.

I apologize for the way I wrote that, what I meant was that you should have "some" compassion for your members that are indeed hurt or feeling done wrong by the actions of Cedar Fair.
The good news is that it doesn't have competition in the strictest sense of the word, but every community center in Northeast Ohio has a new pool complex with slides these days. That's where the water park business gets hurt, and it's probably why Geauga Lake is the last survivor.
If they price it right and can reduce the tax burden, I suspect they can do it, but it's still a tough sell. I mean, look at what Solon has for its residence, where a six-month family pass is $165. No, they don't have a tornado slide or wave pool, but still.
