Trying to get more money from Pepsi
How many times are they going to go to that well. Is this their ultimate business plan - corporate charity?
At what point does Pepsi have a claim to ownership of the park? ;)
I also enjoy how the fine print details how this $50,000 won't even finish the jobs they list as needing the money for (they'll still be $12K short). Maybe they can fit that in to next month's giveaways?
Okay, I've stayed out of this one for the most part, but that's a bit ridiculous to me. Maybe the park should sign up for food stamps too so that they can pay vendors.
I sadly have to agree - if they can't pay bills then they should hang it up.
If I can't pay my bills - the mortgage company takes my house and I move... No different here.
Well Jerry next time u don't pay your bills just apply for Pepsi Welfare.
If you need anyone to share with, you know where to find me ;-).
What the...how...why...come on....really...
Apparently I can't find the words just yet. I'll come back later.

Do we know Conneaut itself submitted the entry? Could be one of the many volunteers. Seriously, Why the hate? Vote, or don't vote, There is no reason to hate on this.
Chuck, currently submitting for the 500,000 Pepsi Save the Screechin Eagle fund *NOT*
I thought we already established that we all have, and are allowed to have opinions on this. Again, no one is saying they want the place to fail, but this is their 2nd Pepsi grant. I'm sure there's a clause in there somewhere that will prevent them from receiving more than one.
I am. I am saying that. I want them to fail. In fact, I want Pepsi to fail, too.
I think we should restore and refresh hatred. But that's just me.

I've said all along that if Conneaut needs to beg for volunteers and donations, running the the park is not a viable business. The way to expand a business is to get a loan from a bank, but Conneaut can't get a loan from a bank because they are unreliable with paying their bills.
Maybe I should apply for the Pepsi money to help me buy more music software, so I can do more writing and recording. That's just as good of a cause as maintaining an old roller coaster or restoring a fun house. My music project, which is just a hobby, right now is not a viable business, but I bet their are more music fans out there than there are amusement park fans.
It's just sad.

The thing that bothers me this time is, if Conneaut gets it again, that's $100k they've gotten...but they still need $12k more? So then if the park fails, that's $100k wasted that could have went to charities that actually accomplish something.
And why do people equate disagreement with hate? Just because rolley rides are one of my hobbies doesn't mean I think they should be getting charity funding.

Ok, I'm just going to say it...
I totally love you.
What Pepsi has done for several projects is amazing. The Blue Streak Project was very much deserved. However, wasn't the goal in restoring the Blue Streak to jumpstart the regional draw for business and profits in order to continue rehabilitating CLP? Obviously, CLP isn't confident that just having the Blue Streak in running order will make the park a more profitable business.
I personally don't feel that the Blue Streak restoration was deserved. I don't want CLP to fail, but the thing is, I think they're past 'fail'. I think they failed a long time ago.
If they can't afford to make restorations on the park based on the money coming in currently, there is not guarantee once they've gotten free money that they'll be able to maintain an income that covers all of the costs either. Sure, the Blue Streak was the 'marquee' attraction, and they got it running. Now they want money to restore other parts of the park, but they haven't even seen if/how the opening of the Blue Streak will affect their income. Will it keep them afloat? Why throw another $50k at the park when there are other more deserving programs (GIVE KIDS THE WORLD!) that are benefiting people NOW, instead of hoping that $100k will solve all of the problems.
I think it's irresponsible.
...And really, what will keeping the park afloat benefit? It will secure several minimum wage, seasonal jobs? It will allow the some members of the public to drive less of a distance to ride a roller coaster and a fun house?
It's nonsense.
