"My boys?" Like I'm part of some secret conservative club? Lord Gonchar, why weren't you at last week's meeting?!
Piano lessons. Sorry. :)
"...refused to sign over National Guard control to the government and has turned to the Clinton administration's head of emergency operations to help manage relief efforts."
So, IMHO, if she won't let the federal government and FEMA manage the situation, then she loses all right to complain about the management of the situation.

Both the Mayor and Governor Blanco sent detailed and long letters of plea, stating that they would need to be considered in a "State of Emergency" on August 27, a full 48-hours PRIOR to the Hurricane even making landfall. These letters propel/trigger and immediately "indemnify" eveyone in the process; it is basically a forfeiture of your state and local rights and puts you immediately under the care and guidance of the federal/national overseers (FEMA, the President, the Vice-President, the Department of Homeland Security, etc, etc.).
The letter I found is dated August 28th and details the steps she has implemented as of August 26th.

I haven't found the one Nagin sent yet.

A day at the park is what you make it!

Wow. Just...wow.I sign back in after a nice, relaxing weekend and still can't quite believe what I read elsewhere on the board this morning. Maybe you won't either.
I can understand little snide remarks like that after a reconstructed New Orleans celebrates a great Mardi Gras --to say nothing of Biloxi and other cities and other states recovering...but right now? When we still don't know the full impact of the losses in assets or human lives?
You know what I find funny, John? Is that certain people can make fun of it on another site, mentioning ARN&R's item that was taken down, and then can't understand why it was taken down, then, when they get called out for it, they turn the subject into "but I was laughing because it was making fun of SFI's advertising", then they delete it after getting scolded. Too bad I don't have that cache...
Poor Playa, always editing and deleting to make himself look better. I'm not the one that laughed at ARN&R's story, and then couldn't understand why they took it down in the first place, were you, John?
And on that note, glad to finally hear from Peabody.
Further, I'm one of the more caring, compassionate, and contrite people you'll ever meet. I just don't tolerate fools and imbeciles gladly. . .or, for that matter, bullies.
Don't expect me to visit upon you any kind of a sycophantic adoration anytime soon, though, as I'm sure you aware, I absolutely ADORE Gemini.
Together, you make a formidable team of coasterbuzz authoritarians. . .
If only I could possess such a vast, endless reservoir of coaster knowledge, such as you possess, well, I'm sure that I wouldn't find myself digressing off-topic, would I???
BTW, what does a RATHERGOODBEAR look like? Or, for that matter, does a RATHERGOODBEAR ever appear in public? I do so hope I get the pleasure of making many acquaintances at the CB event @ Holiday World. Unlike the LAST CB event, where there were no on-line names used on the name badges, I suspect mightily that this time we're having a coming out party.
It seems only fair and right that those of us who spend so much time "chatting" with each other would be given the honor of that person's first name, at the very least. All this subterfuge and cloak-and-dagger geekiness sometimes makes me want to become a pseudonym myself.
See you @ the HW event.
Barry J.
And yes, I am unapologetically ideologically left-wing....but I also find myself quite reasonable...quite the conundrum indeed! :)
But hey, I'm *fiscally conservative* and VERY libertarian when it comes to individual rights, so do I somehow get an invite to these closed-door meetings? :)

I guess my posts must really get you fired up. You're not even making it down to my signature. :)

Barry, the "screen names" in addition to our real names is very helpful (permanent markers suck) as it was on the Beastbuzz badges. Breaks the ice a bit. "Oh so YOU are......"
And personally I don't put TOO much stock into people I have just met online (Jimvy excluded...he's in a class all his own) until I have actually spent some time with them in person, or at least met them and chatted with them.
You would be surprised who comes off VERY differently online than they do in person. Myself excluded. :-)
Oops, got way off topic here..........

She's talking about me, BTW ;).

Aww shucks mate, I don't know what to say!
I do hope it was meant as a compliment ;)
Bill, you'd be less of a jerk if you stayed asleep in the car when people were trying to apply magic marker hehe
-Jimvy!
Jimvy, that was meant as a compliment. You can't be anymore nuttier in person. :-O
Luckily I am a little more quiet and reserved in person, especially to people I have never met before. I can get chatty at times though, especially with booze. :-)

Oh, and may I add my good wishes and congrats to Peabody and Lauren on their upcoming nuptuals.

Thanks for proving once again that I'm vastly more interesting to you than you'll ever be to me. That was a reference to my personal blog which of course, I never reference here. You could leave a link to a blog of yours in every post and would I ever bother? Heh.
Never mind that you couldn't comprehend simple English. Thanks again for being stupid enough to misquote it. Here's what I said sometime last week...
WOW. Of all things, they pulled it.
Actually, as I see the news...I see why.
The screen may have elicited a chuckle before anyone knew Katrina would wreak the havoc it did. But after that? Of course not. Once I got home and in front of my telly, saw what they saw, yeah. It made perfect sense.
And did I delete that entry? Any of my actual FRIENDS on that forum know I didn't; including the person who you say 'scolded' me. Didya get a look at the icon? That woulda been a local Stalkette. You know, yet another gal your age who'd rather enjoy the company of a guy like me. If even half of the guys their age are like you and your buddy there...I'd have to say it makes sad, but perfect sense. Poor them!
Nice try. For you, anyway.
See ya hunkered down in front of your PC next Saturday night! Well, other people on the board anyway. I won't.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.
I'm sure that coasterqueen means that you are, far and away, the HANDSOMEST one of the bunch, right, coasterqueen?
BTW, we didn't have screen names on the Dorney Park CB event in the spring. And I was also at BeastBuzz and don't believe that we had them there, either. . .did we?
I remember somebody commenting about it at Dorney--how much better it would be if everybody had their screen names on their badges.
And, yes, I'm well aware of how this deal works with those who like to "hide" behind their aliases and such? I have been to a number of other events with people that I've met online, particularly gaming events and conventions. I find that the on-line flamers and Big Talkers that like to play the Big Dog online are, in actuality, very tame and docile and usually quietly introverted in Real Life.
Alas, such is not the case with myself. I am anything if not an extrovert. Love People. Love Roller Coasters. Love Life.
(I put that paragraph by itself so that Gemini can pick it up for his After 5 Edition--make it easier for him to quote me!)
I thought you were too tired to talk all this political stuff? I'm still waiting for you or ANYBODY to show me where I was wrong on the other thread! You made boastful claims and then ran and hid... that is not a very nice thing to do!
Rather than bore you with point-by-point counterargument with regards to Orleans...it may suffice to say that the mayor admitted today (yesterday?) that Bush was ready to go at moments notice, but was delayed by the governor's actions. I realize this may not suit well with the attack Bush at all costs mentality…but based upon the assumption that you are indeed a reasonable person without a political agenda to push (which admitantly is getting harder to assume), I thought you might want to know this before you go off blaming Bush and Bush alone for this tragedy!
A few responses to your quotes…
With Halliburton's and Bechtel's already criminal past, and current ongoing investigations into monetary mismanagement to the tune of billions of dollars in Iraq, doesn't anyone else find it odd that this company would even be CONSIDERED for this job?
You have been asked no less than three times to name another company that can handle a job of this magnitude. Why do you keep skirting the question? Could it be that Haliburton is the ONLY company capable of such rebuilding efforts?
Again…I’m open-minded enough to be convinced either way…but your inability to answer the simple question leads me to think that “demagogue” just might be the kettle black…? I do hope this is not the case!
The facts will always, in the end, drown out pathetic whiners like you who are too scared to deal with the Real World that they hide behind web sites and blogs (and usually fake pseudonyms) to express their views.
Hi there…my name is Jeffrey R. Smith. I’m from Las Vegas. Who is this Barry William’s guy? Wasn’t he on the Brady Bunch?
The last thing I need right now, in view of the seriousness and contrite quality that should be observed here, is a HYSTERICAL DEMAGOGUE like you to deal with.
Barry…do you not see how others MAY perceive your writings? Do you expect a reasonable person to conclude that you do not have a political agenda to push…? Your inability to grant one opposing viewpoint even the slightest grain of credibility makes your quote above seem hypocritical on the surface. If I combine your words on this thread with your words and action on our other political thread, I think a fair-minded person could assume you MAY possess some intolerant viewpoints. But then again, there is a cheerful banter and humor to your words that lead me to conclude a possibility of personality confusion so rampant in message board participation (see coasterqueen’s remarks). I’m not sure which it is…but in the spirit of unity and good cheer that becomes me, I’ll continue assuming the later. It is much easier to assume the best of another rather than conclude the opposite…
Anyhow, I’m still waiting for you to answer the question about who is better prepared to rebuild New Orleans’s infrastructure than the hated Haliburton. And since you’ve obviously revitalized…maybe you could take a moment to go back to the first political thread and educate me…as per your boastful claims!
…Jeffrey R. Smith…who is open-minded enough to grant opposing viewpoints from the right or left so much as they meet a minimal threshold for fact and objectivity as opposed to political demagoguery (I think that is a word)…. :-)
P.S. I do not know ANYBODY from CB nor have I been invited to the right-wing party...what gives...
