Community features

Just out of curiosity, would you find a journal/blog a useful feature on CoasterBuzz? What about some kind of personal calendar? These would obviously be premium features for club members.

I personally wouldn't use either.

I have a blog on my own website, and I'm a LiveJournal member as well, so a blog wouldn't be high on my list.

I may use a calendar, though

Both sound good...I've wanted to start up a blog...I just have never gotten around to it

I like the blog idea if you are willing to front the bandwidth and space for members :) Would these extra premium features cost more?

Nice idea, but probably not something I would use. I already use the calendar at work, that's really all I need.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I belong to a Dave Matthews Forum on a webiste called www.antsmarching.org I just recently signed up for it, and one of the coolest features they have is their "Tour Information" It tells you how many tours you have seen, how many songs you have heard total, and the rariety of the songs.

The rariety feature s cool because you would know how rare a coaster is that you have been on compared to other members. For example a coaster like Magnum wouldn't be that rare somewhere around 75% saying that percentage of members have ridden that ride compared to The Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze to where only 23% of our members have ridden it making it a more rare coaster. Then we could give each memeber a top ten list of the rarest coasters they have been on.

I mean this is taking the track record feature to a whole new level, we could list the top ten coasters ridden as listed in people's track record, so if 90% of the members have ridden MF it would be the most popular coaster and if 89% of the members rode X it would be the second most popular coaster and then make a top ten list from that.

The same could be done with parks as well by making a "park record" of parks that I have visted. Then we could have a top five park list and a top five rare park list with something like Cedar Point being ranked #1 by the members who have been there and Waldamer could be ranked #1 as the rarest park I have visted.

You could call the page "My Coaster Record"

then it would list the number of parks you have visted and out of the ____ parks you have visted you have been on _____ coasters.

Then have four colums each listing the rarest parks and coasters you been on and the top coasters and parks you'v been too.

Also you could be able to set it up to how many times you have visted a particular park or even take it a step further for people like me who count their Magnum rides and list the number of times I have been on a certain ride.

I've thought a lot about blogs lately because for the most part too many of them require at least a little technical skill to set them up. Seeing as how people still e-mail me asking for their password there's obviously a market for something as simple as possible. ;)

Neat idea, Dan. Very good idea indeed. I'll have to think about that one!

If the blog has all the features of CliqueSite Content, I would probably join. The calendar also seems pretty useful.

Yah, if you are going to collect data, spew it back to us in a useful form. Good idea Dan.

Dan's idea definitely has my interest. I'd be interested in seeing both %ages and raw numbers. For example, something like:

Millennium Force (90%; 220)

would mean that 90% of people who've made track records, included Millennium Force, for 220 people listing Millennium Force. The reason I'd want to see both is because not everyone who's made a track record lists every coaster, so the raw % figure may not give the whole picture. But that curiosity could just be me... ;)

Let me also agree that Dan's suggestion seems very interesting. Probably enough so to get the $20 from my pocket to yours. :)

The blog and calendar are of less interest to me mostly because I kind of keep that sort of information available on my site.

I've been thinking about joining the club for a couple of weeks now, (waiting on my small teenage paycheck) and new track record features will most likely lure me in. :)

If at first don't succeed, find out if the loser gets anything.

I personally like all three ideas. I could really use the blog and calander since I use nothing like that now.

How useful. In all honesty, if you had the stats and a blog system that worked without deleting every other entry I make, I may well finally take the step and pay for a premium membership. I'm so tired of the blog sites deleting and/or losing my entries, and since they're basically coaster related anyways, it would only make sense to do it here.

What blog sites do you use? What kind of problems or issues have you encountered with them?

xanga.com is the blog site I use verrrry infrequently. It's unreliable and stuffy. Crashes a lot too.
