CoasterBuzz T-shirts and other loot

Anyone who would wear a CoasterBuzz T-shirt... or shirt for any website, is a complete and utter geek.

I'm not disagreeing with this statement, nor am I agreeing. I'm just curious as to the motivation behind it.

I'm guessing it's the whole "Look at me, I like a website" thing that just does seem a tad silly.

However, as the internet becomes a more and more valid form of entertainment I don't see it as any different from wearing a shirt with your favorite band, or sports team, or a Late Night logo. It's certainly very similar to wearing a shirt featuring your favorite park or coaster - something 99% of the people here are probably guilty of. Heck, most clothing lines have become advertisments. I don't care what you choose to stick on your back - Nike, Ecko, Old Navy, whatever - most T-shirt designs just feature a logo. It's just paying to wear an ad which in turn (the manufacturer hopes) encourages others to buy the same logo to wear around.

Just curious. I'm wondering what the adversion to website T's is and why?

And God forbid (oh the horror!) that you might actually take a little pride in the community you're a part of. You might even want people to recognize you as another member! Gasp!

Well that was going to be a follow-up point, Jeff. I can see where it really seems silly for some sites, but a site like CoasterBuzz has a real "community" feel about it. It makes more sense for this site than many others to have a common bond such as merchandise and I think the response you're getting proves that point. I don't even think it's about the promotion aspect (though it doesn't hurt), but more along the lines of "I partake in this", plus it's about the easiest way in the world to meet fellow members.

I'm still curious as to why "website shirts" make you an instant geek. Then again, I don't own a single website shirt (not even my own) - my wife does all the site whoring when it comes to plastering the logo on one's body and heading to the park - so maybe deep down inside I think this too. Who knows?

That's the primary reason why I would (and probably will) buy a CoasterBuzz shirt--I'll be easy to identify by other Buzzers. But it also doesn't hurt to make the statement that I'm glad to be a part of the CB community.

I have met tons of Buzzers from wearing my C-Buzz t-shirt. They certainly stood out! The new ones I like more, but it's going to be harder to find other members, as the new shirts are a tad more discreet ;)

I will admit that I am not into the advertising of coasters or websites on clothing. I just choose not to wear it. If you saw me at a park you would have no idea that I am into coasters so much(Enthusiast in disguise so to speak) :)

I bought the original CB T-Shirt to help support Jeff's site. Wearing yellow is not my style but the new line of products that we have now are more appealing.

To call someone a geek is out of line. We all have our own preferences.

Chi....close but not totally so....

Calling someone ELSE a geek is out of line, true. Calling YOURSELF a geek, for some of us that's just plain honesty....;)

I think wearing my "Nerd Core" shirt would make more of a geek than a CoasterBuzz shirt, but either way works. :) I agree with Lord Gonchar though, it's just like wearing any other shirt that advertises something.

You know something, its probably not so much the actual advertising of coasters or coaster websites.

I think my pet peeve is the stereotype that coaster enthusiasts get. I have run into some "I think I know-it-all" types that believe the red carpet should be rolled out for them when gracing a park.

I dont want to be grouped into that bunch. :)

I prefer to be looked at as the average park goer.

You'd think all those high school ass-kickings woulda learned 'em, but hey...
I wear what I like and what is comfortable to me. Most of the time for me its just a t shirt and jeans. If people wanna label me a "geek" for that, let them. No problems here, if they think they're better than me, I don't really care what their opinion is. Anyway back to the subject, I own 2 coaster shirts- A Gwazi shirt and a Montu shirt. I only own those mainly because it was a 2 for $10 deal and they looked neat. :)

I have tons of coaster shirts but NONE of them are the gawdy as heck kind. The less obtrusive the better. You can't tell they are coaster shirts unless you know.

I have to concur with some of the opinions here. Like Chitown I tend to try to "blend in" at parks. I also am incredibly turned off by the general stereotype (if it's mostly true does that make it a stereotype?) that enthusiasts get. It's also the reason I am not a member of any organized enthusiast group...but that's another topic.

I own two coaster/park related shirts - a Kraken shirt and a Dorney shirt. Oddly enough I can name exactly how many times I've worn each to a park: Once. I wore the Kraken shirt to Kennywood once and the Dorney Shirt to SFOG - don't ask me why I know that, I just do. They tend to get worn when I'm running to the grocery store or the gas station or just hanging out rather than at the parks.

I guess it's a matter of preference and/or taste but it struck me funny that someone would be so against a website (any website's, not just CB's) T-shirt.

Just remember never to be "that guy" and wear the shirt from the park you're at - like wearing the shirt of the band who's show you're at. (PCU anyone?)

I used to strive for subtlety--but have you ever seen a subtle ST shirt? It just went downhill from there...

-'Playa

Actually I have a subtle ST shirt Playa

Red with a small logo. Very unobtrusive.

A subtle red shirt. Is that an oxymoron or did I miss something here?
Red is my favorite color eek

But dang, everytime I go to Kmart or Target wearing it, people always ask me where the q-tips are. Weird ;)

Just a little side-question Magnum, what's up with your signature? Not that theres a problem with it, it's just- different... :)

My purpose for wanting a CB t-shirt is also to identify myself to other CBuzzers, not because I'm an "enthusiast". It's the same reason I would love to see a GTTP shirt as well.

I also picked up one of those necklaces where you add letters to spell something out....hence, I can now wear it with either CPLADY or OLDCPER. Although unless someone were close enough and paid attention, it would likely be missed.
