CoasterBuzz scheduled for downtime (updated)

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Just a reminder that, as we mentioned in this week's newsletter, that CoasterBuzz will be down for a few hours tonight as we make server upgrades.

UPDATE 9:40 pm EDT: The new hardware failed to work, so following the procurement of new parts, downtime will occur some time Saturday.

UPDATE 9/7/02 8:42 pm EDT: All new hardware installed and running. CoasterBuzz and club site appear to be fully functional.

I agree, they're normally made pretty well. I've installed a couple ECS K7S5A's, w/ no problems. Can't beat the price!

I've seen a few holes on other brands not match up as well, and have to remove/move some of the brass standoffs from the case's mobo tray.

Glad everything is working well now. CB is always lightning fast.

This paricular case doesn't use the brass stand-offs at the six primary points. It has the fixed "volcanos" at those points that can't be removed. It's really a good case otherwise for being about $55 at cost. No razor blades inside.

Raptor Pilot-

I just got a K7S5A and a 950MHz Duron. Unfortunately my HDD corrupted just after I installed the hardware and my subsequent zero fill utility to try to recover the drive went awry and I'm installing Windows XP Pro on my new hard drive (10x as big, so that's a plus). It turns out that I zero filled the hard drive that was full of stuff I wanted to keep by mistake... whoops.

Jeff, that's an Inwin case. Good case, but if you haven't, at least check out cases made by Chieftec, which includes Antec, Chenming, and Enermax. Alienware uses them too. You can get an Antec SX630II for $55. I use the Antec SX840.

Michael,
Doh!
BTW, make sure your BIOS is newer than 09/26/2001.
And this is the best K7S5A forum.

I've had those cases for a couple of years. I don't buy them often and I just needed something practical.

Now my case, there's nothing practical about it. And to my surprise it had an extra top-mounted clear fan in the window when I got it.

Ahhhh, yeah I like them. I've thought of getting one of them or a Lian Li. They definately look great but it's hard to give up the Antec's easy door latch, quick & easy fan mounts, quick release HDD cage latch, snap in 5.25" drive mounting, and single fan in front of the HDD's w/ nothing restrictive in front of the other fan.
I definately like the Kingwin's slide out mobo tray. In the Kingwin's, I also wished the HDD cage was up near the 5.25" drives, but still have a fan in front. Nit picking...
Plus having to make the drive faceplates match.
