And which part of the costs associated with running the site do you pay? And who said you had to join the club?

That's pretty much what I figured.

I joined and proud to have done it.
Some of us thank it's a good idea and some don't. Maybe you don't have a website, but it take alot of time and effort and a LOT of money. A thousand buck per month is not cheap. He is not making you join, it is your option. If you choose to complain then please leave and save him the bandwith.

Thank you.

I for one have not joined yet, but fully intend to here in the next week or so. It costs alot of money to run a website with dynamic content on the web. If you think you can do this go ahead and see how expensive it really is. Server space costs money, bandwidth costs money, the time that is put in on this site is worth money. I am looking right now at a counter that says there is 251 people browsing this site right now. That is a hell of a lot of bandwith for a site that relates to most people's hobby.

And Jeff, I know how hard it is to maintain a site like this. I am a webmaster for a pharmaceutical company. If you ever need any help, the offer is out there. I know quite abit about asp which I see you are using.

Cheers,

On the other hand. Lets look at it this way.

Q. What do you get from ACE that you dont get from CBzClub?
A. A MAILED newsletter (usually out dated) rather than an online news feature.

Q. Can you get the ACE newsletter free if you choose?
A. HELL NO! but CBuzz News is free as are the forums, if you choose to view with pop-ups.

If you dont want to join, then dont. But SHUT UP and stop complaining. The only change to the free section from good-ol Cbuzz of the past is track records. Big Whoop!
Does it REALLY kill you to know that people are paying to view Cbuzz without ads in an attempt to keep CBuzz alive and kicking? How does it affect you???? huh???

I am normally a very diplomatic even-keeled person, but this assisnine post really ticks me off. IMO, @#$& off if you dont like it! IMHO!

The only thing that is stopping me from joining the club is how much different will it be from ACE. I'm not sayin the club is horrible its a great idea which everyone has said except for a select few. I think ACE is better right now because they are more well known by the parks and they have more events. When CoasterbuzzClub gets more events that are different from ACE. I'll see that I join. But for now I dont think its worth 20 bucks for ad free site. I can deal with ads. Nice idea Jeff.

Beastnum1, thank you for a well-written , well thought reply to why you have chosen not to join at this point, rather than complaining about the fact all together. BRAVO! Remember, this thing is less than 2 days old. As more events are planned, more people will join, and more recognition will be passed. Maybe not to the extent as ACE, but quite possible.

why should people have tgo pay to look at the same website except you don't have to take 1/2 a second just to close a pop-up ad!  I think everyone that actually bought this are lazy suckers.  But you'll probably say

"We'll get to go to ERT"
Let me tell ya something, there will only be ERT at parks around Jeff (CP,PKI,HW,KW,MA, but not SFWoA because, "My wife said the animal's habitat is being kept up poorly by SF"  no offense but jeff (and many others) are biased to CP over SFWoA.  No matter what SFWoA does (or any SF aprk) it's either wrong or has been put off for too long.  PEOPLE, stop critiquing parks and just gave fun, and be amused, don't say park X is better becasue when i went to park X once it was dirty but when i go to park C it's clean.  I've had it with these boards and would like to say Au revoir!
Jeff has the right to do what he will with the site.  I hope that this endeavor helps to cover the cost of Coasterbuzz operation.  I'm not joining for the simple fact that 20 bucks in my house is a big deal.  If you can swing it, by all means.

My only problem with taking away the track record from non-paying members is that I've always viewed my record as a service to the other people on the board - not me.  I hardly ever get to update my own record, but I'm constantly looking at other people's to see what they've done and where they've been.  I think, because of that, the site loses something in a small way.

I'm sure that the club will be changing and growing as time goes on, as the site has over the years.

Ah, but the reality of the situation is, the ads aren't enough to cover the site costs. Jeff has said this many times, but people keep missing it, or ignoring it. The simple fact is, the model of ads paying for web sites is a failure for the most part. The ads will continue on the free section to attempt to subsidize the site, to an extent, but the simple matter is that is NOT enough to pay for everything.

Again, if you don't want to pay, you don't have to. But if it weren't for people who were actually willing to show their appreciation for Jeff's hard work (lazy? I think not, thank you very much) this site could very well have gone away completely. THEN you'd be complaining about THAT...

I've had it with these boards and would like to say Au revoir!

Great, don't let the door hit your*****on the way out.

Heh..  At what point does this fall under "Don't feed the trolls".  You're a jobber, dude.  I live in Greenville, SC.  Am I gonna try to make the first ERT at PKI?  Sure!  But I'm doing this to support a website that I frequent often.  It's the least I could do.  Have you ever heard of the expression "There's no such thing as a free lunch?"
Jeff doesn't owe you, me, or anyone else anything!  It's obvious his previous years have gone unappreciated far too long.  I hope he makes enough money out of this to retire, and hope people like you don't discover that penicillin will cure syphylis.
Sorry for the rant, please edit out to your hearts content what you feel inappropriate, but I'm tired of these people who still feel alienated for no reason.

There is more...!
http://www.geocities.com/ethylsite
There is no such thing as a free lunch. There is no guarantee that the free site will continue next year or thereafter, if enough people sign up for the paying site. There is no guarantee the paid site or the club will be there next year or thereafter, if enough people don't sign up. There is no guarantee that the price won't rise, especially if Jeff has to pay the IRS for income on all the club dues he collects. Basically, there is no guarantee for anything in life. So, either pay your money and take your chances or don't pay your money and take your chances.

Jeff is being upfront and honest. He is telling you what he knows at present. He can't guarantee anything in the future. He can only do his best as he tries always to do. Join or don't join the choice is yours, just don't complain right now, until something happens that gives you a right to complain. Let's see how this plays out for now. (Its probably worth the money right now, if you can afford it.)
