Coaster Paint

Railshark, I don't know about Shockwave, but Chang is horrid. The supports have almost totally faded, but the track is the worst. It's either faded or coming off. Take a look at the first loop and you can very clearly see several large areas of bare steel.

Maybe they'll repaint it when the park moves. :)

Chang's original paint job had both yellow track and yellow supports, and now it has yellow track and purple supports. PKD's Shockwave used to be bluish-grey with yellow rails, but now it is periwinkle blue with orange and green rails (the trains have been painted orange as well).

In a way I don't think Shockwave is all that bad. They could have stuck with one color for the rails.

I agree,SW @ PKD's paint job is horrid & why did they decide to use that god waful orange & green multi color paint job on the rails?

The trains don't look any better either, they should've lefet them with the original blue color because that made the ride look a whole lot better then it does now.

At SFA both JJ & S:ROS look like they need a new coat of paint in addition to Mind Eraser,JJ's launch track is starting to develop rust along the rails & most of S:ROS's track has faded to a dull pink color, also Batwing's supports can use a new coat of paint as well.

Did they paint Vortex's orange rails or just the blue?

I noticed last week that Face/Off has a few spots that are touched up, but the paint is almost a pink color and is far from a match to the rest. Deja Vu at SFGAm was the same way. Why do parks have such a hard time matching paint?

Chang's dayglow greenish yellow w/ purple looked great at first, but is now so faded, it looks pretty bad.

Surely with todays technology, they can use a paint that doesn't fade. Or use an anti-UV clear coat.

The touch up paint was the original appearance of the paint when the coaster opened.

When you are waiting in line for Millie you can see that all along the track it seems that they have used a grey touch up paint rather than a color that even resembles what the track looks like.

If you don't like the ride shut up and get out of line.

SquishyMon: To answer your question about who paints the rides, it's actually neither of the two. The companies that cities and states hire to paint their bridges and tunnels are also hired by the parks to paint their coasters, the smaller rides are normally painted by the park staff. Also they can only paint the rides in the off season because of the cranes and other scaffolding that they bring in.

Huh? The touch up paint is lighter in color than the rest of the ride. If it was original paint, it should be darker.
