Chris Sawyer says RCT2 will feature improved AI, more flexibility

Posted | Contributed by Ride

Chris Sawyer, the developer that brought us Roller Coaster Tycoon, is delivering more depth to game play in sequel. He says that the focus was to make the gameplay deeper instead of making it prettier. In addition to new rides and coasters, the game will have better guest AI, scenario editing, mass tree removal, vertical scenery construction and other enhancements.

Thank you Blink3020 he made the graphics look better anyway. I hate it when we are gettin somethin that we whined for all summer and we get it, than people start to nit pickin at something. Have yall ever see beggers complainin about what they get. The game didn't even come out yet and people are complaining just by the looks of the screenshot maybe when we play the actual game your opinions will change.
Yeah, seriously guys. Would you like some popcorn from popcorn stand 1 with that wine! He DID update the graphics, and the game would be just like a Sim Theme Park rehash if it was 3D. He kept it his slyle, no matter how dated it looks. look at all his other games, the graphics were never top notch, but they were still very good and sucssesful. I'll say it again, Please Stop!

Beware, you may lose your glasses to THE BEAST!

Deja Vu SFGAm, I used to run RCT using another PC emulator, RealPC, and my Mac just wasn't up to it. RCT ran very, very slow, especially once the park got big. Eventually I broke down and bought a junky PC just for gaming, which cost me about $300. RCT ran so much faster than I was used to, that I started losing scenarios because I wasn't used to having time pass so quickly!

My PC is strictly a games console, though. For real stuff I use my Mac. *** This post was edited by BunnyHugger on 6/30/2002. ***

Graphics do not, I repeat do not make up a game!

Well if that were really true we would all still be playing Pong on our Atari 2600 game systems instead of playing with PS2s, Xbox and PC's with accelerated graphics cards! Time marches on, and at some point you have to get with the program and update your look to the current technology. Maybe you would buy RCT 5 ten years from now with the same graphics, but I doubt most others would.

Oh, and while on the subject of needed updates. I cannot stand that same old RCT scream sound effect which is not only in the game, but overused in seemingly every coaster special or commercial also! Ugh! I sincerely hope with new AI there are also new sound effects and screams!

any hopes for us mac users ????

Seeing as how the thing is written in assembly language for Intel machines, I'm guessing no unless you've got Virtual PC.

does anyone know if there will be more flat rides? This is the only thing i'm curious about, the rest of the game looks really awesome! I can't wait for it to come out. I personally think the graphics look cool the way they are.

Hopefully there are more flats, since there are many in the world to pick from.

I'm very happy the game is sticking with the 2D sprite-based format. It is what made the game great. A little off topic, but it reminds me of when the Mortal Kombat series went to a 3D format. It completely destroyed the game, you went from having about 20 characters to 8, hence killing any storyline. To me that is not progress.

Chris Sawyer stuck with what worked and made improvements on the original formula. I'm confident the game will be great!

Well at least Chris Sawyer FINALLY got the message about giving us all a scenario editor! I would be completely ecstatic if RCT2 was nothing more than the first three games with a scenario editor added. But he went even further than that, giving us the latest new coaster types, including 4D's, so who really cares if the graphics are essentially the same as they were in the first three games? Besides, if he changed the graphics at this point, then we'd all be having to listen to a bunch of people complaining that he should've left the graphics the same as they were. Most of the people in the world these days do nothing but complain about anything and everything, just so others will be as miserable as they are, so let them be miserable fools and just ignore them. They seem to delight in discovering that their efforts to upset people have succeeded, so it's best not to let them know that they've upset you. As Jeff has always said before: "Please don't feed the trolls!" Anyway, people were doing the same kind of complaining when Ultimate Ride came out that it would never defeat RCT, and some of you wonder why Chris Sawyer isn't doing RCT2 in 3D. Well, RCT2 will never defeat RCT either, so why should he ruin the franchise by trying to do it in 3D, or give it prettier graphics than it really needs to succeed? You should all just be glad that he's even bothering to do an RCT2! He certainly didn't have to, you know!
I like the 8 bits. I think it works much better. Although rides need to be a little more realistic in some ways. But with those fancy 3D games, they are too much. Only 3D one I like is Ultimate Coaster, that is top notch .
