Cedar Point's Shoot The Rapids rolls back off lift, one rider transported to hospital

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Seven riders were injured today on Shoot the Rapids at Cedar Point after a boat rolled back down a lift hill. The riders were treated at the park's first aid center. Six were released, but one was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center for further evaluation, and later released.

...what about those people?

They were not submerged upside down in water. Like Jeph said.

None of this is minimizing the accident, just the poorly done, completely based on nothing true, animation in question. The animation is doing more harm than good and people here are (smartly) pointing that out.

Jeph's comment is dead on. The accident didn't happen that way and people were not submerged upside down in the water as the video suggests they were. Hell, even your description confirms it.

Well, the one picture I saw has the boat at only about a 20 degree list, not anywhere close to actually flipping. Also, when you pass the ride on the train, you can see where the concrete in the flume was smashed by the boat. The boat apparently didn't even ride up to the full height of the flume, it seems to have come to a rest where it smashed through the concrete which is only about two thirds the total height of the flume. That seems to support a 20 or 30 degree list.

Unless someone took a video of the actual event, we will never know how much guests did to actually help the situation as opposed to the human instinct of wanting to help others and running over to the boat with good intentions of doing something.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Still of more assistance to the riders than George Zimmerman was to the family whose SUV "flipped upside down"...

Didn't know you were a poor Tray Tray fan.

Seeing as how 'poor Tray Tray' was shot for doing nothing more than walking down a street till he had to stand his ground against someone who confronted him with a gun, I guess I'm a 'fan' too.

Seriously?

Anybody hear anything about Shoot the Rapids? I'm just curious if Intamin has came out to work on the boats or the layout or something. I know it's doubtful that it will open for the rest of 2013, but I'm hopeful that they figure out a solution. The last that I saw the boats were outside of layout sitting by Mantis.

I think the fact that you had to delete your last post and repost it again to bump the thread should tell you exactly how much anyone has heard.

Trust me, it's not that no one saw your inquiry, it's that no one knows anything. When the time comes, we'll all be aware.

I heard it rolled back the lift hill.

I dunno. I wouldn't go so far as to characterize self-awareness as a universal trait in this forum...

Sorry guys. I'm just feeling a little anxious of what Shoot the Rapids fate will be. Don't want to see it removed.

I doubt it's going anywhere any time soon. I can't see CP abandoning its multi-million dollar investment in the ride without exhausting every reasonable remedy.

...though I wouldn't be surprised if they remove the loop.

^ Shoot the Rapids has a loop? I'm confused here.

Son of Beast joke. And not a very good one.

I thought of it as a subtle jab at the boat semi-capsizing, in which case it worked beautifully.

I don't buy that. What, just because someone on Coasterbuzz doesn't have an update on the status of this ride, its status is the same?

No. However, it's also not like we forgot about what happened, so when we know something, we'll say it. Until then, the best course of action is to continue to argue about how pointless hotels in central New Jersey are and to point out that there are things in life we just don't "get," such as wooden water slides in Pennsylvania with three lift hills that don't actually have water.

^Don't have water.....yet. Given their history of flooding, Turns might just become the world's most expensive wooden log flume.

Schrödinger's Flume?

Deep.

And a better one than Shoot the Rapids, I'll wager.

Edit: thanks for sneaking your post in just before mine, Gonch. It totally ruined my joke. What's worse, yours was better. ;)
