Cedar Point's Record Breaker?

terminal velocity depends on friction. a human being spreading his body and falling horizontally and wearing baggy clothing may fall at 120 mph, but a human being wearing a swim suit and falling vertically with his hands at his sides could probably fall twice that fast. a coaster train like dragster's looks relatively aerodynamic, so it's terminal velocity when pointed straight down is probably pretty high.
Yep I agree. If CP builds an aerodynamic train like on Dragster, they won't have any problem breaking the speed record.

IMO I would rather have a record-breaking speed/height coaster than inversions. Inversions are fun but once you've done one, you've done them all (unless, of course CP can come up with new elements).

I think flyers are just a fad, the same as standup coasters. I bet after a few years the flyers could get very rough and uncomfortable. I have ridden Dominator at GL and it was very smooth, therefore floorless coasters could sustain their quality and smoothness like B&M inverteds. (Raptor is 10 yrs. old and still is pretty smooth) *** Edited 10/9/2004 9:27:44 PM UTC by baller24***

We still have to be factoring in costs. Millennium Force cost $25 mil and Top Thrill Dragster cost $30 mil. Clearly CP can't just make a bigger TTD for like $35 mil, this coaster has to be drawn out in some way. The taller and faster a coaster is, that's more track per second it covers, which is more dollars per second it costs to make:

Millennium Force - $25 mil - 60 secs - $416,000 per second
Top Thrill Dragster - $30 il - 17 secs - $1,764,000 per second!

If this is a even a remotely traditional coaster, it's going to have to be long, and it's going to be expensive.

Just a quick note, I thought TTD was $25 million, also?

Yep, $25 million.. http://rcdb.com/installationdetail1896.htm *** Edited 10/10/2004 12:37:21 PM UTC by MForce2k***

Ummm...Millennium Force is 2 minutes and 45 seconds long...and, yes Dragster did cost $25 million. It's really quite silly to speculate this far in the future, technology changes, and things we aren't even expecting show up. I think CP needs to add some smaller, longer, quality coasters and some awesome flat rides to their lineup before they go for 700' or whatever crazy height you people are thinking up.

The speed record for skydiving is 409Kmph or 254mph. A mag-lev LIM driven ride could achieve ludacris speed but at a ludacris cost.

For Millennium Force... The time from the top of the lift hill to the final brake run in almost exactly 60 secs.
An inversion record-breaking floorless hyper...that's what I would love to see at CP. I know it sounds far out, but I think it would just complete the park so well.

I Krave Koasters
i seriously don't see the desire for an inversion breaking coaster... once you've been on one, you've mainly been on them all. Quality awesome flat rides? How many more flats do you think they need? I don't even understand why everyone thinks CP needs a new coaster anyway. Back in the day, a new coaster came around every 4-5 years, and its been 2 years since a 25 MIL coaster,TTD, and you want more. I dunno, just enjoy what you got for now, CF's never dissapointed you before...and even if it takes 4-5 years for a new coaster, learn to enjoy the park for what it is, not just its coasters.

"I'm wondering, if another woman, is really the answer we need." Pick the scabs & Pick the Bleeding
*sigh* such speculation... If they really wanted to with todays technology, they can build something as high as they want it as long as the G-force is deliverd correctly. The technology is there, its just a matter of taking it one step at a time. I am waiting for CP to fly me to the moon baby!

I suspect a 4-D ride or something that changes the experience. not a record breaker, something thats just different. *** Edited 10/11/2004 12:36:37 AM UTC by TopThrill10***

Just build a 750' tall elevator cable lift coaster with 30 inversions, a 14,000 foot long track and a 150mph top speed and be done with it! :)

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

S&S is back with their launches with Powder Keg, could PK be the predessor to the next Big One at BPPB and CP?

its in the woods.........
Why does everyone think that CP *has* to top the height and speed record? Why can't they just go for longest coaster in the world, esp. since SD2K has been SBNO for a year (any body know why its STILL down?!? Hope its up by my '06 trip...).

CP could do so many things, break inverson records, break lenght records, why does it always have to be tallest/fastest?

Let them keep thinking about a record breaking coaster than they would be dissapointed because they are used to getting one. It really isn't necessary for this park because it wouldn't affect attendance much and the media won't rush to cover it.

That's correct. What many people don't realize is that also MF is 6595 feet Long. MF is the longest steel rollercoaster in the all of America! That amount of track is 60 seconds is insane!( I know it includes the lift and station)

So I think CP is in no need for a super long rollercoaster.

25 million bucks... Doesn't sound like a bad investment at all. heck, Lebron James makes more than that and he just got out of high school last year... all he needs to do is sprain an ankle, he'd be down for 1/4 of a season and he'd still get paid...
Apples and Oranges...
Absolutely!
just curious: Who makes more money? Cleveland Cavaliers or Cedar fair?

Because tallest and fastest are the most appealing, at least to the GP, that's just the way it is.

I totally agree 100%

To the GP ear not a bigger statement can be made.
