Cedar Point offers update on status of Millennium Force for Millennium Mania

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point issued the following statement regarding Millennium Force and Millennium Mania, a limited-ride event being held this week:

As you may have heard in news reports, due to necessary maintenance, Millennium Force is currently closed and will not be open for Millennium Mania on Thursday, Sept. 6. Its status for Friday, Sept. 7, is unknown at this time. For updates, please visit cedarpoint.com.

Cedar Point sincerely regrets this uncontrollable situation and is very disappointed that Millennium Force will not be available for a portion of this special event. To try to make it up to you, our valued guests, until Millennium Force is up and running for Millennium Mania, VertiGo, our brand new thrill ride in Challenge Park will be available for rides FREE of charge for Millennium Mania participants. Each ride is a $10 value. And as a special added bonus, Blue Streak will also be in operation.

Best of all, everyone attending Millennium Mania while Millennium Force is unavailable will receive a Millennium Force Boarding Pass, which allows you to enter through the exit and ride without waiting in line. This exclusive pass is valid for the rest of the 2001 season as well as through the 2002 season.

We are working feverishly around the clock to have Millennium Force back in operation as soon as possible. We hope you will come see us at Millennium Mania, and again, truly regret the situation. Thank you.

I don't know if this counts Jeff but I'm going there this friday from Detroit, not very far but this is the only trip there I can make all year and I'm going to be pretty mad if MF isn't open even if Vertigo will be free.
Maybe some of you have NOT read Cedar Points comments completely. They are saying that it will NOT be open on Thursday & Friday is still questionable. Maybe they'll have it opened for the 2nd week of MM ??? (it COULD happen), anyway Cedar Point DOES deserve credit for this great make-up plan. I went to SFWoA on Opening weekend this year & thier NEW feature ride "X-Flight" was'nt opened & would not open for another month. I went strictly hoping to ride X-Flight & what did I get ?  You'll have to come back someother time :(   I am afraid of height & can ride anything @ CP except "ripcord" & probably "Vertigo". CP is forcing my hand with this one, I have 2 more days to build up the courage !!! anyone ride it ?? Is it over B4 U know it ???  all I know is that Power Tower (Turbo Drop) pushes my limits & it's only 240 feet...
I'm coming from Detroit on Friday too, and given The Force's problems, I don't expect it to be open on Friday. VertiGO, for me, is a great substitute, and am sure I will get on Millie many more times this year during Halloweekends!

Mikey :)

Actually Jeff, I have planned a trip from long ago just for MF. My daughter is 48" and can only ride Magnum and MF at MM. On Saturday, we were planning on going on the rest of the rides. Vertigo doesn't help because she's not tall enough. It is really good compensation, though. Unfortunately, we have never been to CP and want to ride MF.

Right now my choices are: wait it out one more day to see if they will be opening MF on Friday for sure or: reschedule my flight to next week. I'm flying from Miami. I don't have a lot of time to decide. My flight is at 6:30am Friday. This is a killer for us. It's definitely not the park's fault but I'm not sure what to do.

i must say that you don't see SFMM giving you extra stuff for X not being up and running so I have to say that CP gives much more care to customers.

I'm confident that they'll get it open for Saturday, in which case you and your daughter should be good to go.

SFMM Lover: What the hell are you talking about? If there's a point you're moving toward, I don't see it.

What a class act! This is why Cedar Point is so great. They make up for this so well!
I think this is great news. I live up around Chicago and I have to say that six flags great america didnt give any discounts out for deja vu when it was supposed to open this season.( It's still not open). I think Cedar Point is the only amusement park that knows how to treat its customers.
Hey Millennium Forcer. Why should SFMM give away anything when no date had been promised for the opening of X? Only us enthusiasts are really tracking the progress. The general public simply waits for it to open. I think we should all focus on the greatness of what all these parks do. That way, we get to truly know the best part of all the parks. If you just put other people's parks down we'll never get an honest exchange of ideas. Does anybody get this?
I totally expected CP to do a compensation thing.  My original thought was that they would have opened up Mean Streak and stayed open an hour or two later.  But this is definately a great alternative for those interested.  I myself am traveling from south-central Kentucky to do this MM thing. It's roughly 600 miles or so. (give or take some)  I bought two tickets and am going to make a two-day event out of it.  I had to redo my travel plans to go on the 13th and 14th but hey, I'm not fussing.  I'm just hoping that MF is open for the second leg of MM.   I think CP did a great job handling this.

God please let SFKK get something in 2002. ANYTHING!!
What's with the SF bashing? I thought buzzers were above that. Lets save the bashing for another thread insteading of polluting a postive thread with negativity.
SF is in it for the money. They don't care about their guests. At least CP still shows its family values. I would support a cedar fair owned park anyday before going to a six flags.
Pleased to know that!

..but how does that serve any purpose in this topic but to anger others?

The CP lovefest going on here is the reason PR is what it is.  I'm not going to jump on any particular park or chain, I will point out that Customer Service ROCKS, and good word-of-mouth advertising really works...I'm glad CP recognizes its effectiveness!  BTW, Blue Streak was running REAL nice when we were there this summer...

MF needed the "upgrade" if you will anyway, so what does it matter if it stays closed for a short while? It's not like its never going to reopen.
Because the ride believe it or not is the reason people travel around the country to go to CP.
If Cedar Point really is great in PR they should had out a one day pass good for next year.

Anything less than that just won't do it in my book.

I have to agree with goonsta. The SF bashing is taking this topic off course. While CP is providing a great alternative with MF being closed, I dont understand how some of you are comparing this to SF having certain coasters not opening yet. This event at CP is of a different caliber. Coasters like Deja-Vu and X never had specific dates of premiering. If SF had a special event like Millenium Mania with just specific rides being open during this event, they would also compensate with something else. It wouldnt take much to add another ride that wasnt originally on the list. Leave the Six Flags bashing out of this. Some of their parks do provide great customer satisfaction.

SF is in it for the money.

Ummm... yeah, they all are. That's why they call it a business.

I don't think that the Six Flags "bashing" (I hate that word) is toward the chain in general, other than above comment, but rather at the direct competition in the market.

Dirty Vern: How do you justify a free ticket for next year? This is a $22 special event, not the whole package. Besides, if you bought tickets pre-sale, they said they'd give you your money back. What else do you want?

This sycophantic worshipping of Cedar Point can make me ill sometimes. The comparisons to the X-flight delay are ridiculous. Did you pay extra money to attend a special event called "X-flight mania?" NO. It was well publicized X-F was not open so your decision to go to the park was already based on that.  I think Cedar Point is doing a decent job trying to make up for the Force not being opened, my only beef is the ONE time pass. How many rides do you suppose I would have gotten on MF at Millennium Mania? I'm sure it would be a heck alot more than 1. I'm not saying they should give away something unlimited but maybe 5 rides or so. I mean the the event is "Millennium Mania" the main reason for going was to log lots of rides on MF without long waits between. I'd trade a 5 time boarding pass for free rides on vertigo in a second. Vertigo should be free anyway, it ain't that great. and opening up Blue Streak?  Big deal you can walk on that ANY day. Cedar Point isnt doing anybody any favors they are trying to avoid giving out a whole bunch of refunds. Because "They are in it for the money" just like every other business.
