Cedar Point offers update on status of Millennium Force for Millennium Mania

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point issued the following statement regarding Millennium Force and Millennium Mania, a limited-ride event being held this week:

As you may have heard in news reports, due to necessary maintenance, Millennium Force is currently closed and will not be open for Millennium Mania on Thursday, Sept. 6. Its status for Friday, Sept. 7, is unknown at this time. For updates, please visit cedarpoint.com.

Cedar Point sincerely regrets this uncontrollable situation and is very disappointed that Millennium Force will not be available for a portion of this special event. To try to make it up to you, our valued guests, until Millennium Force is up and running for Millennium Mania, VertiGo, our brand new thrill ride in Challenge Park will be available for rides FREE of charge for Millennium Mania participants. Each ride is a $10 value. And as a special added bonus, Blue Streak will also be in operation.

Best of all, everyone attending Millennium Mania while Millennium Force is unavailable will receive a Millennium Force Boarding Pass, which allows you to enter through the exit and ride without waiting in line. This exclusive pass is valid for the rest of the 2001 season as well as through the 2002 season.

We are working feverishly around the clock to have Millennium Force back in operation as soon as possible. We hope you will come see us at Millennium Mania, and again, truly regret the situation. Thank you.

Just wondering, instead of Blue Streak (even though it's an awsome ride IMO) why not open Magnum or Raptor instead?

Magnum and Raptor are already open. MM is, MF (if open), Mantis, Raptor, Power Tower, and Magnum
Ok, thanks for clearing that up, I thought it was only MF that was open. Thanks!

I agree with Dennis completely. CP rocks!
Yep, When I was at CP in July 2000 I got on MF right before the line closed, when I got off I went to the cart to buy one of those cool hats,  They are cashed out and the line still has about 30mins. worth of peeps in it!  I was upset and went to Guest Relations.  The guy there said that he would get one and send it to me! (I still payed for it even though he offered to gize it to me)  So sure enough, after the postal service loses it and another one gets sent I have a hat!  The guy had me fill out an comment card for him but that was no biggie!  If that was at SFWoA I would've gotten a "too bad"!

Well, I gotta say That is True Class from Cedar Point, I cant think of another park that would offer such brilliant Compensation like this. Not Only are they letting people Ride Vertigo For Free, But they are also going to Operate another Coaster, plus give everyone a Ride Pass to Ride Millennium Force later in the year or for 2002. Truely Amazing.
You Gotta ask Would Six Flags ever offer this kind of Compensation????? Probably Not.

This One again Proves that CP is the best Amusement Park in the World, and Comes Miles Ahead for Best Customer Service. BRAVO CEDAR POINT

Well what were they supposed to do anyway. That is their attraction that people go there for. So they have to make it up in a big way. If I had ridden the other rides, and went there just for a lot of rides on MF, I would be bummed and want them to compensate. Vertigo is worth it alone. I think that saying Six Flags wouldn't do it, is not correct either because at SFGAdv, they give you every coaster to ride, not just 4 and breakfast and lunch. If Nitro broke down, they easily could have people ride the pay rides (since there are so many) and they probably would. I think to say that Six Flags wouldn't do it is not right because they never had their coaster everyone looks forward riding at an event like this, break down.

Yeah that is good compensation for MF being down i'll be sure to be there!
That's a great deal. I'm just wondering though how long are the lines for vertigo when people have to pay for the ride. Also how many people can they do an hour it only sits 6.

Is everyone who reads this site unaware of all the free tickets Paramount has given out to people who waited in line for Hypersonic XLC, only to have it break it down? Let's remember that there are more than two big park chains.

Wouldn't Mean Streak have been a better choice than Blue Streak to make up as a coaster to keep open? Sure, they both have their strengths (yes, Mean Streak has strengths) and their weaknesses... but who would ultimately win out in the end, especially given the general public's opinion?

Either way, it's a great deal, and if it fell on a weekend instead of a weekday... i'd be there in a blink of an eye!!

Considering some of the PR boners that I have seen committed this year by parks with feature attractions that were not operating, I consider this doing it right big time.

One park I went to got its new feature attraction finally running after 5 PM and told the people who had been in line all day, tough luck, they were going to take about 50 people and then close the ride at 6 PM when the park was scheduled to close.

They close the back of the park, where MS is. Frontier Trail is closed, as well as just past Magnum. Blue Streak is right there in thick of things. I don't think many people are into power riding MS anyway - at least, not me.

But I'd gladly do a dozen rides on Blue Streak!

So many coasters - so little time.

This is some superb public relations work - I am VERY impressed. I'd bet the they're taking a lot of flak about MF being closed with the events this week and next, but this is a great way to make up for it. I mean, what more can you ask for? Engineers aren't miracle workers, but they're sure giving you something to make up for it. Kudos all the way, with some sincere applause to follow. I just wish I could be there too! Ride for me, everyone!

people who live no were near ohio have the right to pissed off . i mean its not the parks fault it is obvious that they maintained mf well . but  vertigo and a stupid pass will not make up for missing out on mf . some of us wont have the chance to get to cp ever again

And how many people are traveling an extended distance to a park open for six hours with a half-dozen rides? That's what I thought.

It's kind of hilarious that this rollercoaster had to break down at this "crucial" time. Of course Six Flags didn't do such a thing as this, because these people aren't smart. Apparently, Millenium Force is the "force" behind revenue at this park. It is a little lame that they have to do that just to get people to go back, especially when I don't think people care that it is down or not. I think people just go to enjoy it, whether or not their "favorite" ride is open or not. All I really can say is that people shouldn't have to go just for that. In the long run, it wouldn't matter if they give away passes like that, but it is a stupid move. I would just say, quit acting like babies and just wait til it opens. It's not like the world is going to end during this "Millenium Mania," so just get over it and move on.
