Cedar Point offers update on status of Millennium Force for Millennium Mania

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point issued the following statement regarding Millennium Force and Millennium Mania, a limited-ride event being held this week:

As you may have heard in news reports, due to necessary maintenance, Millennium Force is currently closed and will not be open for Millennium Mania on Thursday, Sept. 6. Its status for Friday, Sept. 7, is unknown at this time. For updates, please visit cedarpoint.com.

Cedar Point sincerely regrets this uncontrollable situation and is very disappointed that Millennium Force will not be available for a portion of this special event. To try to make it up to you, our valued guests, until Millennium Force is up and running for Millennium Mania, VertiGo, our brand new thrill ride in Challenge Park will be available for rides FREE of charge for Millennium Mania participants. Each ride is a $10 value. And as a special added bonus, Blue Streak will also be in operation.

Best of all, everyone attending Millennium Mania while Millennium Force is unavailable will receive a Millennium Force Boarding Pass, which allows you to enter through the exit and ride without waiting in line. This exclusive pass is valid for the rest of the 2001 season as well as through the 2002 season.

We are working feverishly around the clock to have Millennium Force back in operation as soon as possible. We hope you will come see us at Millennium Mania, and again, truly regret the situation. Thank you.

That is very, very good PR work.   They are really going above and beyond on this one.   I wish everyone offered service like that (not just in the amusement industry).
Vertigo is a great ride. I wish I could make it. Have fun.
Lynch I couldn't have said it better myself.  I bet no other amusement park would compensate like Cedar point has.  This is why they are truly the greatest amusement park on the planet.

Top 5 coasters:
1. The Beast 2. Millenium Force 3. The Incredible Hulk 4. Superman: ROS (SFNE) 5. Alpengeist
I just have to say, kudos to Cedar Fair.  Would six flags do that?
Man, and I thought $10 was well worth it...
Wow, this is a great replacement for Millennium Force, Free Rides on VertiGo and exit way passes for MF, for 2001 AND 2002 season. I would go just for the pass for MF. But school is in the way darn. O well, hope everyone who goes has a wonderful time.

I got this email in my inbox too. I like it. :-)
This is soooooo awesome, I'll be there on Friday, I don't know which I'd rather take, the Vertigo, Blue Streak, and boarding pass, or riding MF all I want, both will be totally awesome though.

Welcome back riders, how was your ride...Enjoy your day, here at Cedar Point, America's roller coast.
I certain northern Ohio park didn't do anything when their flying coaster opened a few weeks late... Oh wait that was at a Six Flags Park :)

I can't wait for Thursday... can anyone say VertiGo... I give Cedar Point alot of credit for throwing together this update for Millennium Mania(on Thursday) so quickly and they did such a good job.

I know they worked fast to get everyone updated! I can't wait to ride VertiGo! I have not ridden it yet but it looks fun! Cedar Point did a nice job of giving us something in Millennium's place. I can't wait!

Before everyone gets too excited, read the following carefully: (from http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/milmania/update.cfm : )

Best of all, everyone who pays to attend Millennium Mania while Millennium Force is unavailable will receive a Millennium Force Boarding Pass, which allows you to enter through the exit one time and ride without waiting in line. This exclusive pass is valid for the rest of the 2001 season as well as through the 2002 season. Cedar Point admission is required to use the pass.

Emphasis mine. Cedar Point is definitely cool in their compensation, but before everyone goes with visions of skipping the MF line all next year, keep in mind that it's a SINGLE-USE pass.

That's awesome.  Way to go Cedar Fair.  Are you listening Six Flags?  This is the way to treat your customers.  Not to get on a Six Flags bashing rant here, but I think that Cedar Fair understands how to treat their customers a lot better than Six Flags.  Anyways, enough of that.  I wish I could make the event, but going to Florida in two weeks plus Phoenix Phall Phunfest is taking my money and vacation time.  Oh well, maybe next year!  :)

I'd like to point out though, in my email it said:

"Best of all, everyone who pays to attend Millennium Mania while Millennium
Force is unavailable will receive a Millennium Force Boarding Pass, which allows you to enter through the exit and ride without waiting in line one time.  This exclusive pass is valid for the rest of the 2001 season as well as through the 2002 season"

Dang you GregLeg, beat me to it! *** This post was edited by SonOfBeastRules on 9/4/2001. ***

Still, Greg, that's real decent, especially considering what wait times can be on that thing. (Granted, hopefully a new-for-2002 attraction will cut down on it, though. :))

Think about it: You're losing MF, but getting a free ride on it later. Plus, they're giving free rides on a normal upcharge attraction, and throwing another ride in to fill MF's place.

Oh, I'm not complaining at all.  I think that's mighty cool of Cedar Point.  I'm just pointing out to everyone a detail they may have missed, before they get too disappointed,
