Cedar Point hopes to get Dragster open this weekend

Posted | Contributed by Goccvp1

Following the closure of Cedar Point's Top Thrill Dragster due to problems with the ride's hydraulic launch system, the park is working with engineers to get the rid back to operating status for the holiday weekend.

Well, I used to be able to see TTD from my house, then I moved.
Life's not fair.

not to be too harsh but i agree with the dude... although they are really trying to get TTD up to good reliability, serious changes i think will be needed (it pretty much was a prototype) for that to happen. and i'm not trying to be mean, but the only way i see TTD being reopened by the end of the season is if the figure out and fix the problem by the end of summer

No harsh feelings lol. It's just my point of view of the matter

If they are such good mechanics why did they fry one of the electrical boxes on TTD. I was there and saw them do something wrong to the electrical box and it smoked like crazy.

"even RWB was down the other day and not once was it a story on the news. Why? Because noone cares about the park except for a few WOA fan boys."

Since when did all parks need media coverage for a ride being down?! Oh wait, I forgot the all mighty CP sets all the standards. Geeezz, I hate moronic people that don't understand that this type of media coverage can be a big hurt on a park. And yes I do think that the news stories on TTD's downtime is hurting CP more then it's helping.

As for SFWoA, they are having a much better season.

Hello and welcome to SFWOADude's Place. I'm Captain Obvious and I'll be your server today. Your seats--like everyone else's here--will be under the table. There you go. Hide your face with the tablecloth, now. Reeeal nice.

Today's dinner special is Raw Crow Deluxe. We find a crow pecking at garbage in our dumpster, whack it over the head and serve it feet-on with vinegar. Would you like the feathers on the side, or shall we just leave them on the bird?

Our Fillet of Sole is always good, too. We slice the bottom of your shoe off, blacken it with a blend of Cajun spices and serve it with a dollop of horseradish. If you tip well enough, you can get it served Shaddap Style--where the waiter crams it down your throat.

I'm sorry, did you only come with a light appetite for your own words? Perhaps a deli sandwich--raw tongue and lightly spiced jive turkey--will do.

Not sure? How about a sampler platter while I bring out some complementary Green-with-envy bile cocktails.

Be right back!

SFWoAdude725:

Using LIMs to get a ride going that fast would take way to much energy and a longer stretch run, which they didn't have room for. WT drains enough energy, there's no way they could've pulled that off for TTD. That's my expert opinion.*** This post was edited by Bakeman 7/4/2003 12:05:01 PM ***

I think that was the point... People are claiming that everyone goes easier on Cedar Point because of it's reputation, when in actuality they are having to deal with more attension than any other park gets. WoA doesn't have to deal with consistant media coverage everytime one of their rides is down.*** This post was edited by shwilson24 7/4/2003 12:18:07 PM ***

Again, everyone repeat after me; Cedar Point is great, Cedar Point is God, Cedar Point can do no wrong. TTD will never ever breakdown again. Oh yeh, I almost forgot, My park's better than your park so shut your crappy little mouth or I'll club you like a seal. There, that just about sums it up.

My best friend's father had a great line when he was in trouble or said something stupid, "Come here so I can hit you!"

Its not gonna run guys. Sorry but we'll have to wait ill next year

I cant repeat false statements sorry.

When baby seals talk a lot of smack and then get proven wrong, they'll start getting clubbed like you. In the meantime, you can get clubbed like a Player-hating-My-favorite-park-don't-got-one-and-they-do-and-it's-up-and-running-and-I-stuck-my-foot-in-it MORON with so little credibility here that I swear Santa Claus, Bigfoot and the Easter Bunny all point and laugh at you.

Being the obvious expert mechanic that you are, why didn't you lend your expertise to them so they could get it fixed again ??

In fact someone with your vast knowledge of the whole coaster, its problems, and electrical wiring why not apply for a head mechanics job at CP. The nothing will ever break again, because they will have you there to keep everything in grear working condition.

SFWoAdude725, you have now been punted.

First off I would like to thank The Cheat ... for helping me cheat.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't say that.

I don't think they should rush it to get it opened. Do all the modifications. It's a prototype. Granted, there is Xcelerator but thats a baby compared to Dragster. I too think it won't open this year, but I'm used to new types of coasters taking in extra year to run.
Why are you guys arguing with a guy who can't even spell the word "sleeve" in their signature?

Just registered guys, don't want to really get into the drama of things that are going on in here, but wanted to let you know what I saw yesterday at the park. When I first got there, around 9:30, there were no trains on the track, they were all in the corral track in the center. The mysterious tires were still laying around the station, and a few men in mechanics shirts were walking the track, one carrying a thick bundle of white papers, almost looking like a manual of some sort. I went on Power Tower and Corkscrew, in order to get a good look, but couldn't see anything special going on. Later on in the day, we returned to take a look, and lo and behold, there was a train moved from the corral onto the track, with those dummy's strapped into it. It wasn't in the launch position exactly, it was in the "waiting for the train in front of me to launch so that I can move up" position. There was a CP employee sitting in the dispatch chair in the little building, and there were still 3 mechanics under the track near the launch position. This created quite the buzz around the park, and hundreds flocked to see what was going on, filling the air with questions like "Is it going? Is it going to run? Will they open it tonight?" About a half hour later, they moved the train up to the launch position and I think the average heartbeat raised about 20 beats per minute. It was so quiet around there you could have heard the birds crapping on raptor. All of a sudden, the mechanics jump out of the track, and you hear the revving of the engine, as if it were going to launch. Let me tell you, everyone RAN to the entrance. It was like a bunch of 12 year old girls running to see the star of NSync. Then they shut the revving off, and it was never launched. As we were leaving the park though, around 11:30, they launched a single train up the hill, which made the crest of the hill a lot easier than it had when it was running at the beginning of the season. It may not be running yet, but I am pretty confident after seeing all of this throughout the day, that they will have it up pretty soon. Patience is a virtue for me, and I will just wait quietly until the pros show all of the pessimists in here to be wrong.*** This post was edited by Endophrined 7/4/2003 4:26:21 PM ***
Some people are soooooo sensative. Lighten up, this is supposed to be fun. Besides, words like PLAYA and CHEAT are honest terms right?

If you can't play nice, I'm taking my bat and going home

Brandon: Almost a salient point!

However, an argument takes place when there are actual viewpoints to discuss. Unfortunately for him, TTD is open, he said it wasn't gonna happen and this is more of a 'Riverdance-on-yo-forehead' thang.

And in Cleaveland it is a sleave!

Playa - It's not exactly open. There have been ride ops testing it all morning and afternoon, but so far, no human riders. Plus Sandusy has a few T-Storms approaching so it is my bet they will wait until it passes to open it. However, things are looking very optimistic for people visiting the park tomorrow.
Now who's calling a spade a spade. Like I said before, people who live in glass houses shouldn't through stones. Annnnd, glass houses should never be built on a sandy peninsula in the middle of Lake Erie unless you want to replace your windows all the time.

Yes, Its storming pretty hard right now in Akron too. I wonder what's happening in Sandusky.

Wood - anything else is just an imitation

Thank you shwilson24. You got my point exactly.

People only hear what they want to. I can attest to that personally.

Every time an anti CP person complains about how the holier than thou CP can do no wrong in the eyes of others my point is always the same. No other park in this region has recieved as much scrutiny as CP. For good and for bad. Right now it's very bad.

And it doesn't sound to me that anyone here has said that CP was the best, or can do no wrong. It's all about the obvious attempt by some to stir up the pot.
