Cedar Point dropping hints for 2010

LostKause said: I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but why, oh why would they take out Snake River Falls just to replace a log flume that they removed three years ago? They need both kinds of water rides, as they are both the kind of water rides that one would expect at a large amusement park.

Why must it be an either/or situation? Who says the new ride can't satisfy those who like both flumes and shoot-the-chutes? If Pilgrims Plunge has shown us anything (other than the fact that Intamin can't deliver on a promised wave size) it's that their 10-person boat can function as both a flume and shoot-the-chutes ride vehicle. Can't you see it now?...a long flume-like section, maybe with some rapids thrown in, followed by a record-breaking elevator lift and drop. Seems logical to me and they could even reuse SRM station and drop runout.

When is the last time a 'new' log flume was built? (And no, I don't count Pilgrims Plunge.)

-Daniel

I'm guessing the last flume built in the US would be Either Dudley Do Right at IOA or the flume at Family Kingdom.

Does a Mack SuperSplash (SWSA) count as a flume, a coaster, or a Shoot-the-Chutes? The jargon gets so confusing... ;)

The flume at the Columbus zoo, in 2007 or 2008. Its an Hafema model. Before that, didn't Idlewild rebuild an old Arrow flume they bought used?

From June '05: The log flume purchased from Old Indiana Fun Park back in 1997 has been constructed at Idlewild & SoakZone. The ride, called Paul Bunyan's Loggin' Toboggan, offers another way for the family to share a ride together at the Second Best Kid's Park in the World.

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

I think sometimes the lust for shiny roller coasters obscures the reality of what I think the park is obviously missing.

They're getting trams for the parking lot? ;)

Another "clue" from facebook. h

Gee...see Intamin?

I hope it's a meandering traditional log flume like WWL, not too scary for the little kids, and just thrilling enough for the teens and adults; a ride for the whole family.

...But I really am starting to doubt that they would actually make good on their promise to replace WWL. It's probably going to be some super awesome roller coaster / flume hybrid with a loop and the tallest water ride drop "on the planet" or some crap. :(

( :) )

Seriously if it is a hybrid flume/coaster, I say bring it on. I have loved the two rides of that type (Buzzsaw Falls and Journey to Atlantis @ SWO) I have ridden. However, if it is, those two rides absolutely soaked you I would hope the CP version does not.

I thought that the flume at wild west world was the last one built?

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Let me restate. I would love to see something like RipSaw Falls or JTA! That would rock, mostly because their is some "meandering" before the excitement.

But if it's an aquatrax or something like Buzzsaw Falls at Silver Dollar City, or if it's a one trick pony like Snake River Falls or Pilgrims plunge, I will be a little disappointed.

No, no the one trick pony ride isn't until 2013!

'83 = Demon Drop
'93 = Snake River
'03 = TTD

Oh wait, you mean to tell me CP doesn't build their rides according to the year number?!? I could have sworn that the formula was (((current_year - last_coaster_year)) / 2 + last_year_digit % 3) = new coaster year!

It always seems like that you see a new coaster in an odd numbered year for the past 20 years. (with the exception of Raptor in '94).

^Millennium was in 2000, Wicked Twister was in 2002 and Mantis was in 1996.

Okay, I'm wrong, but I though Mantis went in '97?

Either way, it seems as if about every 2-3 (on average) years since Maggie was built, CP gets a new coaster.
