Grab your paddles and climb aboard the newest river-ride adventure this side of the Appalachians! Shoot the Rapids, an all-new family water ride, will rise above Cedar Point’s rustic Frontier Trail when it makes a splash on Opening Day 2010.
During the 2,100-foot-long journey, adventurers will travel through a wooded area and around an illegal still used for brewing sweet-tasting elixir, all while encountering surprise water elements and special effects. Guests will navigate the waters aboard a 10-passenger boat. Riders will be seated in five rows of two and will be secured by individual over-the-head lap bars.
The excitement builds when the boats ascend one of two lift hills. The first and largest hill will be 85 feet tall and will drop riders down onto Millennium Island at a 45-degree angle. The second hill will be 49 feet tall and will end with a dramatic “shoot” through water rapids and rockwork.
Guests on the Frontier Trail can keep their feet planted on dry land and watch as riders complete their wet and wild trek down the final drop.
“Shoot the Rapids will instantly become a family favorite,” said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “Our guests wanted another option to cool off on warm summer days. We listened, and Shoot the Rapids will deliver the perfect combination of refreshment, thrills and new memories at Cedar Point.”
Shoot the Rapids will cost more than $10.5 million to build and will be the most expensive water ride ever built at Cedar Point. It will have a capacity of approximately 1,200 riders per hour. The ride will last three minutes. A rider height requirement has not yet been determined and will be released at a later date. The ride was designed and manufactured by IntaRide LLC of Glen Burnie, Md., the same company that built the Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force roller coasters and the Thunder Canyon river-rafting ride.

CP isn't lacking flats. They just happen to be concentrated in two areas of the park.

The hype was the fault of their marketing. They took people in a completely different direction than a flume ride.Huh? We must have been reading differnet blogs and announcements. In their recent blog posting they eliminated manufacturers...most of which were coaster manufacturers.
Most of which but not all. Everything they did and said leads to something big and great. It wasn't necessary. They made all kinds of postings, sent out jugs, etc. It seemed like it waas building up to a huge announcement. It's like movies that have extensive viral marketing campains then flop at the box office cause they weren't that great and people were expecting more. They set the bar too high for themselves. They should have just started with saying it would be a water ride and anounced it first before the intimidator rides. Not saying the ride is bad just their marketing of the ride leading up to the announcement.

That's the problem. I happen to think this isbig and great. And the park thinks so too. And the people they surveyed will feel that way too.

Would you guys have felt better if this was a record breaker, say the tallest flume in Ohio?

I think it's great that they're building family rides and another water ride. However after announcing a giga and a hyper, and after all of their marketing of the ride they made it seem like it was a huge announcement. They should have announced it first since it was the smallest. I'm not saying it should have been a bigger ride or a coaster just that their marketing wasn't done well.
Da Bears
The marketing was fine, the product didn't live up to the hype.
This kind a reminds me of what Dean Kaman did about 10 years ago with the intro of the Segway.

So I assume they are going to be reclaiming the mill for the que just like they did with WWL station and Maverick? And while I think a new flume is a great addition, I think a bit more theme or innovation or heaven forbid story, or at the least an interesting layout could of helped alot in helping appease their own targeted "Ride Warrior" demographic.

I don't always agree with Jeff's comments but this is one time he absolutely hit the nail on the head versus how the coaster enthusiasts are reacting. This is HUGE in a family/non thrill seeker-demographic sense and will greatly be welcomed and accepted by parents, grandparents and non-thrill seekers (and thrill seekers too!).....GUARANTEED to have long lines.
Let's just pray Intamin gets this right and the height restriction is down around 42"-44" which is what it MUST be to fulfill its roll in the demographic it is marketed too.

If they makw a 36" with a ride over 48", then they WILL have a winner.
Of course, we ARE talking Intamin here.

The funny thing is, I remember the announcement and press for WWL, and the subsequent advertising. A lot of people were excited about it, including me and my grade school mind.
I can't believe that the bitching isn't even about the ride itself. God forbid they actually make people aware of the ride!

Looks like we have to call a whole car-carrier full of Waaahmubalances today.
Keep them coming! It's only September! We still have the whole off-season! ;)
Personally I am not a big log flume person (unless I am in a bathing suit!) I think it's an awesome addition to the park anyway! I like what I see. I think it will be an instant hit with the masses. :)
Does CP HAVE to get a coaster every time? There are other things to do in the park you know. As far as any "hype" I always take it with a grain of salt. Giving Cedar Point or any park crap because of the "hype" is nothing but comical in my eyes, but that's just me. ;)

Maybe this ride would make "Best Flume Ride for Golden Tickets" if there was such a thing. That would be impressive. #1 Flume ride in the world "Shoot the Rapids" haha

My goodness. I guess I was complaining about the complaining.
I don't know if the grist mill is authentic or reproduction - something tells me the former, and if that's the case CP should not use it for anything but milling. I see the kind of bare area where a kettle corn vendor sits as the place for the viewing plaza for the new ride. I imagine it will look very bare there at first.
What about CP&LERR? I suppose there will need to be a crossing.
When WWL opened it looked like it had been built on a mudpit. Some years later I noticed how pretty and grown-in it had become, and in it's last years looked great, scenery-wise. This ride has the potential of doing the same. Perhaps through necessity, a lot of it is secluded with some of it visible only to the PWE riders. While we are busy today combing over renderings, the Q.Public family is not. Shoot the Rapids will be a mysterious and surprising ride to those who visit CP next year.
If they can get together the little theme, that's ok, but I wouldn't expect much. Some moon-shiney scenery and probably some gun fire popping across the boat's path that will give everyone a little sudden surprise jolt. We can see the drenching rock waterfalls. The station will probably be one of the nicest parts, if I don't miss my guess. And that's fine.
We're not much for water rides, but the nice thing about a couple days at the Breakers is you can show up at the park mid morning in your swim suit, flip flops and a crappy t shirt and have at all the water rides you can stand. And all so conveniently located. Then back to the room to shower that lake water offa you (I know, I know...) change clothes and hit the park. So that day will definitely be my Shoot the Rapids day, and I can't wait.
I'm thrilled that the park is building a new flume! I do have a huge concern for Paddlewheel though. That ride's theming is slowly vanishing piece by piece. How is this new ride going to interact with, or affect Paddlewheel?
About the complainers, Cedar Point is an amusement park. Amusement parks have to have rides for everyone, not just little teenagers who only like roller coasters and nothing else. The park already offers an amazing amount of thrill rides.
My biggest complaint is, what in the heck did the hints have to do withthis ride? I wondered that the whole time. Gee, see, eye? You will not get wet? Makes no sense to me. We should go through a complete list of the hints and decipher them.

Where's the water coming from? If it's from the lagoons count me out!
Ewwww. I really think that the park would have a class-action lawsuit if they splashed lagoon water on people. I know for a fact that ever since TTD was built, that stuff is toxic. :)

PS. Does anyone doubt the power of 3 now??? ; )
TWO lift hills? TWO across seating? TWO different areas divided by the Paddlewheel lagoon? Themed to TWO different feuding groups? 12-hundred riders per hour, which has the number TWO in it? What is the angle of the lift hill? Nope, not 30! It's 25! Ride length? 21,ooo feet. It sounds to me like the magical number is TWO!
Or what about the mystical and magical number TEN? 10.5 million dollar investment. 10 boats. 10 riders per boat.
By the way, you are a poopy head, to put it nicely. Tell me of one full-time employee who has publicly commented on "the magical powers of the number three." It's just some stupid legend that you made up to get attention. Please stop it. It is very annoying. :(
(I just fed a troll.)
EDITED for word separation.

I haven't been to the park since they took WWL out. I just might make a trip up there for the new flume next year!

My only "complaint", really, is that the ride looks a little too wet.
I think a log flume was, a key ride that was missing from the park. Cedar Point is one of the only major amusement parks without a "light splash" water ride.
I have never ridden Snake River Falls or Thunder Canyon. I doubt I will any time soon because I don't like to get soaked. I did, however, ride White Water Landing many many times because of how you didn't get soaked.

You must be the guy hired to market Hard Rock Park...because you've shown you know zero about marketing and promotion.

Well.......In all Cedar Fairness, it does have to live up to CF standards, which means that it must be the wateriest, wettiest log flume ever built.
I can't wait till tomorrow, when they make an announcement that they made the big announcement yesterday.

The 2 qualifying categories are Best Water Ride and Best New Water Ride. I doubt it would get the former. But, depending on what else opens next year the latter might be possible.
