Cedar Point '07 Project

Wow! Lose track of a thread for a day and miss all the fun. Here goes nothing...

I have a strong dislike for regular contributors like Jeff, Mamoosh, and sometimes Lord Gonchar...

Oh man, I'm nothing more than the letter Y in the big scheme of things.

(think about it, it's funny - or don't they teach 'and sometimes Y' in school anymore?)

There's a difference between a double standard and earning the right to break the rules a little bit.

That's exactly how I approach moderating things.

Enh. I never get "vet" status...

We still love you, Andy. :)

(And I'm at least as "uppidy" as 'moosh. Maybe not gonch though.)

Sheesh! Let me take the knife from my back. ;)

Which I why I always include plenty of these... ;)

I also subscribe to the 'smiley & winky' school of keeping it fun. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work.

Rules for newbies:
1. Read more, post less
2. Lurk until you are confortable with the board's culture then start posting
3. Dont go trying to change said culture, its there, it wont change, deal with it or stop posting
4. Read more, post less

:) Apparently so simple that it's difficult.

If I were to visit a message board, and I didn't like the way it was run/moderated, and I didn't like a handful of the most prominent members, I probably just wouldn't post there.

Yeah, but how else would you feel important and garner attention?

Ive been on this site for quite some time, just with a different screen name.

Ooooooh. You're the Thunderbolt kid! The one who started spouting crap about the KW coasters and then refused to believe one of the park mechanics (a longtime credible CB contributor and real life 'nice guy') when they came out and corrected you. Yeah, I remember.

At the very least it's nice to know this boy could come from rural, poverty stricken, blue collar upbringings in a small steel town in western PA all the way to the heights of notoriety as the one who single-handedly raised the bar in the field of being 'uppidy' on an internet message board catering to the interests of coaster enthusiasts. It's really quite an honor and one I'll gladly take credit for. Do I get a trophy or check or medal or something? :)

Since we're talking CP's new coaster (kinda), I'm looking forward to BooBuzz and a chance to check things out in person. Anyone who happens to be there can feel free to approach me & just ask and I'll gladly turn on my "pompous ass persona" and treat you like dirt in person. (but it will cost you, of course)

Dude, not only were you were named third but given the distinction of only being sometimes an "uppity jerk." If anyone is getting a trophy it's Jeff or me...SHEESH!

And while I'm at it thanks oh so very much for quoting everyone on the last two pages but me. Way to make a guy feel loved.

Nope, Y is always a consonant... They used to say "and sometimes Y," but no one ever knew when it was or not.

Pat Sajak says they are always consonants; you never have to buy them, you always get money for them! :)

So yeah, the new pics over at PointBuzz look sweet. Still can't wait for the announcement! Probably not till December :(

Yeah, but trying to draw the attention from you guys scores me crucial ego points. I'm just trying to stay in the race at this point. :)

And it's "uppidy", duh! ;)

There's no fighting the Sajak. I think more disputes should be resolved via Wheel Of Fortune.

Maybe it is time to close this thread. It it almost out of control. Most of what was said between certain people could have reserved to PMing.....oh wait that is too easy.

Back on topic....I know Moosh, Swoosh, and Jeff know what "maverick" is or isnt. I know I don't know but I have an idea. I still think it is going more of the "family coaster" direction that I had said a long time ago. Nothing so far screams looper. Nothing screams anything of height over 100 feet tall (so far).

I am really thinking a new direction for Cedar Point would be a ride the whole family can ride together. Whether it be a Rita like ride (which I have my doubts on personally), an Aquatrax (seems more likely but still I see things that make me doubt that...), or maybe it is a "Super Splash" and that leads to why they left the old log flume station alone....the super splash is Intamin's version of water coaster....even more so than say an Aquatrax. Maybe Intamin does have "motorbike" coaster and they will make it like riding a horse instead of a motorcycle. The possibilities are endless .....until it is announced and we all know what it is anyway.

Announcement date.....I bet Cedar Point will hold out as long as possible unless they want to drive early season pass sales.

Y is still sometimes a vowel, even if they don't teach it as sush. You can't have a word without a vowel so words like why cry and fly wouldnt be words.

As for the project. it ain't a flYer.

i agree with beast, it's more family friendly than the last few, but that doesnt take much.

Hey Gonch, if that kid really is the notorious boo hoo from the KW discussion, my hat goes off to you for the catch.

By the way, Moosh and Jeff have nothing on you...especially in light of recent Magic Mountain/Six Flags discussions...you curmudgeon (better than a cur though). ;)

By the way, I woundn't have even admitted to changing my screen name. How odd.

Sorry, but I don't think anyone here should have to apologize for not taking BS lightly. As Moosh mentioned, if someone is acting like a jerk, say something. Don't lurk for years and throw a tantrum every few months or so. Deal with it.

Edit: Almost forgot the obligatory smiley winkeys.

If that is your idea of what western PA is,you are sadly mistaken..

Its really sad,I come to this site to read about coasters and what I find is some grown people acting like two year olds. Its getting so you cant post anything without the fear of being flamed by someone.

We are all here for one reason,to share our interest in coasters, why should it matter who is right who is wrong, who has more-less knowledge?

This site wants to be respectable making sure people use proper grammer ect..If I was a first time visitor and see some of this stuff,I think I would get a bad impression of what coaster people are really like.

How do you do those smiley winky things? I see no emoticon tab every time I post.

P.S. Is there a "middle finger" emoticon available? :-)

rollergator's avatar
Jeffrey, what you did at the end, skipping the hyphen gives you a regular smiley like this :)

Using a semi-colon instead of a regular colon (still omitting the hyphen) gives you this ;)

Sometimes those smiley winkeys work just like middle fingers. ;)

Oh, you totally misunderstood. I was referring to myself.

And yes, that's exactly how I grew up. In a small town in western PA, north of Pittsburgh, where everyone lost their jobs and struggled as the facotries left one-by-one where everyone was forced to government help and menial jobs that paid nothing close to the ones they lost.

(see, it was a sarcastic attempt at the old 'rags to riches' story based on the complaints about me - just another case of my posts being totally misunderstood)

First, people act that way on every single coaster site I read. CBuzz does not have a monopoly. Second, in many cases I think you're mistaking flames for friendly teasing.

But again, if someone says something to you that you feel is rude there is a simple way to handle it: tell them how it made you feel and give them an opportunity to explain and/or apologize. While many of us might not act like adults we can put the silliness away when its needed.

And not every thread devolves into childish behavior. Have you read the "Rare Classic Rides" thread? That's some good reading there ;)

We are all here for one reason, to share our interest in coasters, why should it matter who is right who is wrong, who has more-less knowledge?

Not sure I'm following you there. If I erroneously post that Westview closed because a trainload of people died on an accident on the Racing Whippet is it not the job of someone like you, who has much more knowledge about the park, to step in and set the record straight?

I'm glad we have some very knowledgeable people posting here because I often learn something.

This site wants to be respectable making sure people use proper grammer ect..If I was a first time visitor and see some of this stuff,I think I would get a bad impression of what coaster people are really like.

LOL...you don't need this site to give you a bad impression of coaster people. Just attend any event! ;)

What happened to CoasterBuzz!!!????

(Showing off my "vet" status, though that one wasn't nearly as far back as I can go.)

Well, a true vet like you could probably brag that he's forgotten more than most folks here. ;)

Does anyone know what that building they started erecting but stopped half way thru is for ?
Andy,

You are a veteran. Don't know realize that every year about this time things get slaphappy? It is a combination of anticipation of new ride announcements combined with little kiddies who have lost their minds watching too much tv and playing too many video games all summer long.

Things will quiet down again soon.

I don't know a thing...but maybe it is an on-ride photo booth? Seems too small to be restrooms or a mechanical room. *** Edited 8/18/2006 6:41:16 PM UTC by wahoo skipper***

So if you really feel like someone is flaming you, why not directly quote the person in the very same thread and take them to task, instead of coming into an unrelated thread and post what can only amount to meritless complaints?

I think the real problem here is that some people's feelings are hurt when someone has a differing opinion than their own, and their debating skills just aren't up there with the rest of the group. Not talking about you specifically KW_worker, more about the group as a whole.

That was said perfectly Matt. Ironically it's usually the better debaters/veterans/watever you want to call them that can take jokes, allow themselves to be proven wrong without a tantrum, and have fun with this site.

THeres a right way and a wrong way to try and gain respect. Almost no one chooses the right way.
