Cedar Fair to buy SFWoA

I just had a zany idea that is crazy enough to be feasible.

IIRC, due to some strange bondaries, the WildLIFE side of the park had more stringent building restrictions than the WildRIDE side.

How about this, many years down the road, when its time to add something new and large, just eliminate the entire North (Ride Side) parking lot, and have enrybody park South Side (Life Side). I have never seen Sea Worlds's parking lot, but if it is inadequate, the now disused animal exhbits can be razed and the South Lot expanded. Then, if there is room we move the water park into the western side of the old Life side, and put an entrance plaza on the East side of Life side, which would funnel you past shops and games and flat rides, and so forth entering the current rides side from back behind Raging Wolf Bobs.

It would not be the first time Cedar Fair has made the back of a park the front.

Either that, or raze WildLife and turn it into the world class waterpark as someone else suggested. Two lots, two gates, two tickets, already set to be put in place.

The old Seaworld lot and gate are set up much better than the Geauga Lake side.

David, I am uninformed. When else has Cedar Fair made the back of a park the front?
Just wondering,

It's not the seatbelt, it's your ARSE.

ROTFL!!!
I know that if there was anyone brave enough to say it, you would be the one. I know many of us were thinking the same thing... :)

I do not argue with idiots, people reading the conversation will not be able to tell the difference otherwise. I can tell you however that I do not have a big rear end as this clown implies. I have wide hips but I do not have a large gut bulging all over the place either. Like I said earlier, I have no problems with the seat or the seat restraint bars just the seatbelt length. People should look at a person first before passing judgment.

The seatbelts could be made a little longer where they would not drag too low outside the trains or fly up and hit a passenger in the second seat.

If you take out the fun in an amusment park what is the sense of going to the amusment park. Oh, the Crystal Beach days......

bigkirby, I think Dave was talking about Worlds of Fun. I believe their "back gate" in the Scandinavia area became their front gate after Cedar Fair purchased the park. I think their old front gate was by the lagoon where the paddlewheel boat/Cotton Blossom used to be.

Danny,

Looking at the WoF map, was the former main gate near that fountain next to the skycoaster?

I can only laugh at the loose seatbelts make a better ride argument. I have never noticed that the seatbelts at the point arent long enough, in fact i would even say the longer notch is downright huge on the coasters that have them.

Jeff is right, Cedar Fair doesnt need your business if thats your attitude.

I had a park map someone sent me from the early 90s that had it, but I can't find it right now. I'm almost positive the old entrance was in that area though.

Thanks, that pretty interesting to know.

I hope Cedar Fair does not demolish or otherwise remove anything from the south side right away, especially items like the gate or parking lot since they could help with controlling and spreading out foot and automobile traffic.

I am sure CF will do a thorough inspection of the existing structures on the old Sea World side and decide what can be used and what has to go.

Obviously, the existing restaurants, restrooms, gift shops, etc. can be utilized. Also the whale arena can be converted into a normal stage arena by removing the whale tank.

Lot's of possibilities on that side with the existing assets.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Just wondering,

That's effectively what they did with Dorney Park. When I visited, all the locals parked in the 'back' parking lot and used the 'back' gate, down near Thunderhawk but Cedar Fair had designated the gate at the top of the hill as the 'front gate'.

I am 6'3" and 250 pounds. I still have yet to find a coaster I could not fit into at least once. Yes, MF at CP is a tight fit because of the belts, as is Flight of Fear at PKI because of the overfoot/belted lap bar restraints. But, I manage to fit in both, as well as many others.

I am a big guy, but I understand that there may be rides I cannot ride. Just like there are cars I have a very hard time fitting into. That is just the way it works.

You're right.

It's not the seatbelt...it's your SADDLEBAGS.

When I was heavier, I could fit on anything CP had to offer in any seat--so what? I still tore an ACL, still had borderline hypertension and still had to strap on a nasal CPAP to breathe at night. Do your joints and organs care where you carry your excess weight? Nope.

Don't get me wrong--I still love to eat. I'm still a kind and compassionate ear to my friends who are concerned about their health and try to work on those issues. I've preferred women who look like women instead of adolescent boys even back when I was a gangly 170-pound high schooler. But if you think parks should bend over backwards to accomodate you, you're nuts. Should coasters fling 60-pound grade schoolers into the shrubs or into the sidewalls for your sake? Uh uh.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

The last time I checked, obesity wasn't a protected class under the American's With Disabilities Act. Whether it should be or not is another matter but I don't know how you could make a harness that accommodate every size human being.

Where would you stop? Should it be able to accommodate someone 350 lbs but not 450 lbs?

fat, dumb and lazy

I hope you're not saying that fat equals dumb and lazy, Rob. That would be a poor assumption.

Will Ship Wreck Falls be Snake River Falls? Maybe dismantle the ride completely and built a state-of-the-art dark ride on the former "wildlife" side of the park. It can have that "Pirates of the Caribbean" quality with a huge drop pouring out of the building for the finale.
No Walt, no assumption. Just a phrase..

You should know me better than that.. :)

what about midgets under 48 "... it's not their fault they are that short, but we don;t accomodate for them...

... sorry, got off topic...

ummmm... go... cedar fair? =P

I know i haven't been around but i thought i'd chime in.

So i thought everyone told me that there was no way the park was up for sale?? I was told it didn't make any sense. But since when has SFI shown any sense? I'm just happy it was CF and not BEC that came through in the end.

And i don't care what Jeff or anyone else says, CP didn't know what they were doing when they butchered the Blue Streak. Rides like that run just fine at other parks with no issues. CP does have a fantastic record of safety, but i would bet that statistally speaking, with the number of riders annually nationally it really isn't significantly better. Especially when one considers that the vast majority of problems are the fault of the rider. But beyond my own little gripe about how classic coasters have been treated in some CF parks i have no problems with the purchase. Heck i guess if push came to shove i would trade the Big Dipper to ensure the survival of the park ;)
