Cedar Fair to buy SFWoA

So is this new alter-ego still upset at the SFWOA purchase, and the demise of the wildlife side?

Fate is the path of least resistance.

I don't know why you're not allowed to say you like something without it having to be related with how good of a business it was or whatever. It doesn't matter if you're the only person in the world that likes it.
You're allowed to say whatever you want, but if you're going to make that opinion the basis for why something is, isn't, or should be, it has to add up. If it doesn't, people are going to call you on it. Certainly you're familiar with that scenario?

It's sad though to see all the potential SFWOA to have had wind up disappearing less than five years after the park's conception. Hopefully, Cedar Fair will not blow this opportunity. *** Edited 3/13/2004 12:52:03 AM UTC by Zar*** *** Edited 3/13/2004 4:52:52 AM UTC by Zar***

SF should have never made it a POP for both parks. That was the fatal move. The cleanliness, service issues, etc could have been overcome...though I am not sure without some change in leadership.

What are you talking about? Why do you want to see a failure? Even the worst Six Flags haters never wanted the park to fail. Six Flags did that all on their own.

I'm familiar and *thought* it added up. I guess I'm bad at it though, so I've called it quits on debating on a large scale responding to numerous things from many people, because I think a lot of stuff said gets mixed up and you can't directly respond back and forth to each thing the person may have to say linearly really well. It's ok though. As long as I can say that I liked the animals, it was half the reason I visited SFWOA, and that I don't mind who is operating the park as long as I have a good time, it's all cool with me. Anyone can AIM chat with me any time if they're unclear of things. I'm kind of unclear with what I mean sometimes myself. It comes from the heart though and it enjoyed SFWOA a lot.

In my opinion it was a bad idea for Six Flags to even purchas the park, but they did give CF more acres to purchase and newer rides that get to stay in the park, the park i think will have a bright future, but its gonna have a rough start, but yet i'm still skeptical. In the end, i think both CP and GL will both do just fine together!
Well for me every visit I had to SFO and SFWOA I had a good time. I guess one of the reasons it was so good everytime was 'cause the park wasn't busy and there were pretty much no lines. I never really got to do much of anything on the Wild Side 'cause everyone was only interested in riding the coasters. I will miss the uniqueness of the park but will not miss the fact that it was run by Six Flags. Everytime I visit a SF park I never no what I am going to get. I have never had a bad day at SFA but I have had a few at SFGadv, SFMM and SFOG. But I have also had a couple of bad days that included rude employees and bad cust. service at CP. So SFWOA was just as bipolar as most SF parks. Just ask Sean Flaharty about cameras.

Jeff, you say that Cedar Point never felt threatened by SFWOA. If you go here http://www.virtualmidway.com/news/0312041.asp you will see that Kinzel calls SFWOA a "juggernaut in our backyard". You really mean to tell me they weren't threatened by SFWOA? If I were a stock holder of CF, and they didn't care about about their biggest competition, that would be scary. Not paying attention to competition is what kills companies. They knew the park had a ton of potential, that is precisely why they bought it. Management of the park was its major downfall, not weather, and with Cedar Fair running the show I think the park will realize its full protential. We will now see two, or even three train operations on the major coasters and employees who actually seem like they want to be there.
I would call that "playing it up for the media" He more likely really meant it was a potential juggernaut.

It's amazing how much reporters can twist words. I've been quoted saying things (non coaster interviews) that I never said. (Thankfully nothign bad! Now I take my teacher's advice and always bring along my own MD recorder when I'm interviewed!

They watched the park. They were never "concerned," regardless of what Kinzel said. I had a conversation with certain People Who Know(TM) late in 2001, and they had the research, they did the surveys, and long before any Amusement Today estimates were made, CP's assessment was clear: "We think they're actually trending in a negative direction."

I don't care if you believe me or not... that's how it was.

LOL Brett!

Not a lot of people know this, but I'm a huge fan of acronyms. And if at all possible, I like to *pronounce* the acronym instead of just saying the letters. My favorite so far in college is DOHA or DOMA (Drunk of His/Her or My A$$). ;)

Yea, just try and do The Park Formerly Known As Six Flags Worlds of Adventure!

In my last post, it should say "Hopefully, Cedar Point will NOT blow this opportunity." When I tried editing it to fix the error, it still reads as it was minus that word, only now it says I edited it?!

Sorry but its not Cedar Point who bought six flags its Cedar Fair. I'm not trying to be rude.

There will be no competition between Geauga Lake and Cedar Point because they are both owned by Cedar Fair Inc. The good thing is that they can use Geauga Lake as a backup, or "spare change" and bring it to life with 2 major parks if ran correctly. They should both be a hit. Geauga Lake will need more work though so I think they might concentrate on GL more that CP but, I can't be sure of that. GL is in need of major care including renaming, possible repainting, new "wildlilfe side" design, getting rid of Six Flags Items, changing gift shops, and new employment. So now that we know this, there is work to be done, lol! :) *** Edited 3/13/2004 4:07:11 AM UTC by DC2Beltz3***

DC2,

I corrected my post accordingly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if the two McDonald's by me can survive (6 blocks from each other) for the past 10 years and have the exact same menu...

Last time I checked, CP and GL had different offerings based on atmosphere alone.

I think they'll survive each other.

That may be true but a four hour drive from each other is close for not an everyday visited type venue. It is going to be interesting to see how they market the park and how it will affect attendance figures for Cedar Point.

In either case, I have no desire to ever go to a Cedar Fair park again. They have the most stringent and ridiculous safety Restrictions I have everseen. They actually have a 32 page safety guide that makes a Wall Street spread sheet look like a childs birthday card.

To top it off they have seatbelts on their attractions that are too short for above average sized people. Unfortunately, it appears that managemnt of Cedar Fair do not know how to read the stats that on average amaerican adults do tend to have larger waist sizes then our European friends. While I am large I am not obese to the point where I cannot fit safely in the seat of an adult ride and have the lapbar and or pull over bar latch correctly. Seat belts dumb idea.

Conclusion - they do not need my business and I do not have to give them my business.
