Carrowinds new coaster name

Well the ride isn't that great, so you got to do something to spruce it up!! ;)

Wood - anything else is an imitation

This name is truly horrific....wow, who thinks UP this stuff anyway....ah well, at least it makes for a funny moniker...;)

I still think they should've used MY idea....I wasn't even gonna charge them....much....:)

I'm excited that the park is getting a flying coaster, even if it is used. I'm also excited that it's going to be well themed. Star Trek wasn't my theme of choice, but it has some great possibilities. But my 5 year old cousin could have come up with a better name for a coaster than BORG Assimilator.
What, What is that I hear? Oh yeah, I did predict the theme correctly.

I think it's a GREAT Idea. The possible theming in this thing sounds just like a FOF-type spectacular. I'm most interested in the Ball of Mechanics and stuff that they say will be at the end of the path, unless that's the coaster itsself.

Jeez, it's a new coaster for this park, be happy for them.

Thunderhead, and a park I haven't been to getting a really cool(and deserves more respect than it's getting) flying coaster. I *am* in heaven.

Not many Outer Limits fanboys out there, but like Koaster King pointed out, if the theming is well done, shouldn't matter if you're a Trekkie or not, it's could turn out to be pretty cool. If the theming is even half as good as ST:TE, this will definitely be a big hit for Carowinds.

Appears 2004 will be the year for the Borg invasion on both coasts:

Sure beats the no theme theming it had at PGA.

Yeah, right. No theming is better than a cheesy sleezy name. Stealth was a catchy, strong name for a ride like that. They should have stuck with that instead.

I can hear it now. "Hey let's go get ourselves some more of that BORG Ass!"

I liked the rumored name "Borg Invasion" better, but it's the coaster that counts, not the name.

Borg ASSimilator is Here!

Difference of opinion, I personally prefer the opposite, and wish PGA had done something like this instead regardless of the name. Besides, when it comes right down to it, it's just a name. The ride experience is what counts in my book, and this to me seems like a vast improvement if done right.

I guess growing up with DL has showed me that a great story line with excellent theming can make even the most mundane ride interesting. Think how boring BTMRR would be without the story and great theming.

Waiting in a long elaborately themed cue with a interesting storyline, an encounter with the Borg, and incredible theming all around sounds so much more fascinating to me than standing out in the hot blazing sun for hours to ride a stripped down coaster with nothing more going for it than the name Stealth. *** Edited 1/15/2004 11:24:41 PM UTC by jomo***

YES!

TREK!

whoop!

Wow! I love theming too.. but I can see this becoming the next Disaster Transport in ten years.

Does anyone know what the color scheme is, or if it's been announced?

Hmmm. As Trekker, I like the concept, and have, in fact, been waiting for this for a long time.

Two problems: The concept's fine, but the name is... lacking.

And, I just wish I could see this as Paramount using a successful franchise to get more people into their park... But, considering the current state of Star Trek, it looks more like a popular roller coaster being brought in to help out a flagging franchise. :(

RollerJunkie,

You can see for yourself here. ;) *** Edited 1/16/2004 12:13:44 AM UTC by Dukeis#1***

Do you have to make fun of all the new coaster Names? How is Thunderhead in anyway related to sex? Why do you have to attack this perfectly good name? There's no point really.

It's Borg Assimilator. Live with it. Ride it.Enjoy the Theming.

Does every coaster with ass in the name have to be ridiculed?

Green, black, and gray. I just don't remember what is painted what. (I'm on the clock and can't go spelunking for images.)
What they do with the theming is more important to me than what name they chose for it, just as long as they go all out like FOF or B:TR. I personally don't care for the name, but that doesn't matter. It's just my lowly opinion. One thing that I would like them to do as far as theming is add some kind of innovative lighting up of the ride at night time so that at night it would be a totally different experience. Also being that it is right at the center of the park, it could virtually be seen from anywhere.

If there's anything I like about the name, it sounds as if it wants to be something more than it really is. This isn't the kind of name you would associate with a coaster but more with a major dark ride or experience at a Disney or Universal park. At least that's the impression I get. Maybe Paramount is still trying to make their parks fit in a class with the two big guys there. :-/

Not necessarily. Despite the lack of any recent popularity with the Star Trek franchise, ST:TE is still hugely popular. And not because of any recent movie or series, but because it's so well done and such a great experience, it's almost a must do in Vegas. Even non-Trekkies are impressed by the immersive experience.

Besides, Drop Zone wasn't a hit movie by any stretch of the imagination. Didn't stop Paramount from adding this movie based ride to each of their theme parks. 10 years after this flop of a movie came out, Drop Zone is still one of the most popular rides at each park.

The only problem with the name (besides the fact that it brings the 12 year old out of all us - how many Borg Ass jokes is that now, mine included?) is that when we do get over it and begin referring to it as BA - all I can think of is Mr. T's character from A-Team:

B.A. Baracus

Either way I lose.

I have a feeling that more than a few enthusiasts will refer to it as TCFKAS.
Yeah Rob.. dorks will. ;) I'd much rather someone just bust out "Stealth". NO need to get any more silly with it than necessary.
