Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Im sure that Carowinds will rush to put back the Sterwheeler, but only because some twelve year old kid who thinks he runs a Coaster Preservation Organization told them to!

/end sarcasm

Dude, do you have any ideahow much of a fool you are? That letter will at most only be read by a secretary who will laugh and the letter will meet its fate...

DELETED!!!

Next time you try to save something, try to be a little more professional.

Goodbye for now CpNut, oops, I mean CoasterPreservation.

Let's just say....the birds will be jealous.

If that letter doesn't persuade them to bring back the boat, then nothing will...

I think you guys are being a bit unfair to "CoasterPreservation". Although I agree, his letter needs a grammer check, his intent is an honest, from the heart response. Many of us locals (myself included) who grew up going to Carowinds will certainly miss this unique attraction. Naturally, the Sternwheeler's demise isn't nearly as important to the newer generation of kids who could care less about a big boat. The park, IMO, has made a HUGE mistake in taking out the Sternwheeler. They need to hear feedback from the theme park community, regardless of how "professional" it may appear.
But how can you make such an assumption that it is gone forever? You can't, atleast not until next year. If it is not there next year, then it is gone, but until then you have no idea.
Hell, we really don't evan know if it is gone for good yet. Maybe they just moved it while construction on Stealth gets started.

If it is gone for good, it will certainly lesson my (already low) opinion on Carowinds. While times change, there is really no reason for them to get rid of the boat. I have watched this park morph since the late 80s on my first visit, and while I didn't visit the park during it's glory days, my opinion has not improved all that much about the park. I know Paramount is the only reason we have 12 coasters, (Which is too many in my opinion) but it's time to face that Paramount is really nothing but Six Flags, with a larger budget behind them. There for, we cannot expect them to deliver a great product.

If the Carolina Stearnwheeler is gone, all I can say is that I will be much more likely to buy a Season Pass to Dollywood or Busch Gardens instead, which both offer more than just rides that can spin you upside down 200 times.

Maybe one of us ought to call the park Monday and ask what their plans are. Parks don't usually discard something which can be sold. This is a neat piece of Americana which another park could buy at a reasonable price and put to good use. It could cruise the lake at Idlewild, be moored in the lagoon at Kennywood as a restaurant, or go to any number of other sites. If they're going to chop it up and throw the pieces away it would be time to object, but if Carowinds has another use for it, or if is headed elsewhere for another three decades of public enjoyment, more power to them.
If it were going elsewhere, though, it would make a great photo cruising down the interstate on a flatbed truck.
The funniest part of this is that people actually think this is a huge mistake. Yeah , sure , like you rode this every time you went.

It's a boat.

And Paramount is not a glorified Six Flags. It has much more atmosphere , better rides , and is MUCH more family and customer-service oriented.

------------------

Flame away.....

I would have rode it every time, but the park hardly ever ran it.

And I do stand behind my opinion that Paramount and Six Flags are on the same level. (At least at Carowinds and Kings Dominion)

I'd actually prefer a day at Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta over a day at Carowinds.

Yes, but you are missing the point. You don't have to ride it all the time to appreciate it. I have never ridden the 1923 PTC Carousel at Carowinds, but I appreciate it's historical aspect and feel it would be wrong to remove it too.

For those wondering if the boat is gone just temporarily, it is not. I have already spoke with certain officials that have said it was removed permanently.

I respect everyone's opinions, and I am simpy stating my own (just so you know because this isn't meant to be offensive):

Well then there you go - it's gone. I still don't see the big deal though. I just don't think it added to the atmosphere, nor did it take away from it. It was just there, which is why I don't see this as a big deal. If you are so obsessed with the historical part, the double decker carousel and the train might be something to debate about, but those were removed awhile ago, before Paramount. Most of the "historical" attractions were removed before Paramount.

It is obvious that the island was a prime piece of land, and the boat was blocking it. They have been wanting to do something with the island for awhile now. I am glad they chose this location for the flyer, it is a much more interesting spot, especially with the water. It just seems silly to me that just by taking out a boat it can cause someone to not want to go to the park anymore. When I first moved here from New York in the 90's, Carowinds was not that great. Personally, I think it's a lot better now.

This is the one of the most ignorant comments I've ever read on this site. You obviously know nothing about Skycoasters. They have an impeccable safety record.

I hope all the employees at Carowinds gather around, read your letter out loud, and then laugh until they piss their pants. I hope they make photocopies and post them in the office restrooms. Your cause is worthy but your effort is laughable.

It is kind of wrong to remove it , but if the coaster is going to be there , it would be an obvious clash of themes(as someone said).

I didn't ride the Carousel at SFOG until my sixth visit. But, I would hate to see it removed because of the atmosphere around it. If you're really tired or need some quiet , you go over there. It's like a toystore for rest. The boat would now be surrounded by (what I suppose will be because of the green spine) a futuristic/action theme. This would look awful together.

Just another arguement.

First a quick queston. Is the the boat still on the property? It's pretty big to hide so a ride on the sky tower or drop zone would be able to tell

Second Jkpark and rollocoast, the thing didn't float. It was a big car. Hence the track that is clearly visible now that the lake is drained.

Unlike Europeans who have a sense of pride in their architectural/design history, Americans for the most part do not care. We tend to discard things very easily...part of our fast food nation I guess. I think it's a shame the boat is gone. Actually I think it would have been a cool contrast to see the sternwheeler paddling by the new flyer.

Sure a lot of us thrillseekers may not have cared to ride it, but a lot of other people did enjoy it. The boat gave people like my parents something to do. It's one less reason for them to go to the park now.
