Canceled Coasters

yeah....GAdv gets more traffic than all of the SF parks. I was just saying other reasons it could have happened. I'm sure capacity did play a role, but it's probably not the only reason they decided on Chiller over Freeze. Otherwise, why not go full circuit?

I don't know, unless they felt that those parks needed a shuttle coaster.

Exactly. They wanted a launched shuttle coaster with high capacity, and Chiller was the answer. The other reasons you gave for GAdv getting Chiller instead of Freeze are ridiculous. Opening three in year is too excessive? Who the hell cares about that aside from enthusiasts?

The Chiller decision was made strictly from a capacity point of view.

I think the fact that they purchased three Premier launched coasters in one year already says a lot about their confidence in those rides. Then they purchased two spaghetti-bowls for SFA and SFFT.

I had thought that CCI was supposed to build SFAW's wooden coaster, and the ride was cancelled because of SF's displeasure with CCI?

Not sure if that was true or just a load of b.s., though...

Actually, CCI did have plans to build something for SFAW (as was shown on their "wall of fame" at IAAPA, but the ride I was refering to was another wooden coaster that was to open in 1999. When they fell through, my guess is they decided on a "standard" wooden coaster from CCI, but it fell through for some reason.

I didn't say those were the reasons, those are just what I could think of in 30 seconds. This was back in the Time Warner days when the parks were still fair quality parks. They might have cared about opening 3 the same season. They only had 8 or so parks and each was fairly unique. Most had BTRs and maybe boomerangs, but that's about it. Maybe they just liked the idea of a dueling launcher. In concept, it would provide a much higher level of excitement.

Doesn't SFMM AND SFGAM have more traffic than SFGADV?

One reason to pick shuttles over full-circuits is you get to ride *sdrawkcab*....a very cool sensation not being able to see the track in front of you, but oftentimes a bit nauseating...

Of course, I'm hoping Chiller *doubles* its capacity for next year...;). Truly a scary ride, and I still haven't ridden "the good one" since the retrofit....top hats ROCK from the underside....:)

No. SFGAdv is not only the highest-attended seasonal park in the country, but is more attended than any other Six Flags park, including year-round parks like SFMM (which GAdv usually beats by at least half a million or so).

Houston, the reasoning behind Chiller really is strictly based on capacity. There's no other logical reason for it, as nothing else justifies the extra cost.

-Nate

Either that, or what Houston Thrills said. Perhaps they just liked the idea of a two-sided shuttle? Expensive, yes, but then we get back to the idea of SFGAdv's traffic. If any park could justify that kind of ride, that's the one.
