Can someone explain this to me??

Don't count on it, Coastermom. Trust me there's not too many people that care about a simple marketing phrase.

Odds are you'll get a cute little form letter back.

for the S:ROS commercials back in 2000 they used pictures of VIPER @ SFMM!!!!!!

not only did they do that, but they showed it going through a loop and down a curving first drop, and a corkscrew!

my first ride i was surrounded by people asking "where are the loops, the commercial showed loops!"

number of people that noticed 99.9% number that cared 100%!!!!!!!

take that! at least nitro and raging bull are the same type by the same company.

mike

-hates SF marketing...y not just show video of the other s:ros's?

-----------------

do you have any idea how much that saves them? think about it, they send one crew pay them anywhere from 5-10,000$ to film and edit the footage of rageing bull, then use it for nitro because the rides look close to the same, that they figure most people wont care. same with nameing rides the same even if they are diff rides the generic key chains and T shirts can be re used, when it comes to the bottom line, useing names multiple times and reusing footages saves them millions.

think about a key chai, you need to pay to design, pay to get a master made up, get test presses done, then get the multiple molds of the master, then you need to press them up they would save thousands on that by useing the same name twice cutting costs in half!

Coaster Sam ,but he's saying that Raging Bull is more similar to Nitro, as is Viper to S:RoS.

3)Beast 2)Nitro

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.......what I wanna know is WHAT ARE THEY COUNTING?

I don't care what coaster they use where and for what, I wanna see where they can even CLAIM to have more rides on the planet then any darn theme park!

Darn thread hijackers!!! :):):)

It costs a lot to produce a commercial. union pay for a director of photography is 1600 a day (i know, my dad's one although he only works like 1/3 of the time and gets most work non union). labor for a sound man is over 500 a day. the director is like 1600 a day. editing is like 3000. it's NOT cheap, but thats no excuse in advertising 15 million dollar rides.
Err.... LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!!!

Okay. I've decided to put an end to all this, and I'm going to list the rides. But, because I rarely (if ever) go into Looney Tunes seaport, I'm not totally sure on ride # there. HERE I GO!

Batman: the chiller
Robin: the chiller
Stuntman's Freefall
Autobahn
The Pendulum
Musik Express
Movietown Splash Effect
Batman: the ride
Nitro
Congo Rapids
Chaos
Big Wheel
Flying Wave
Evolution (don't start)
Sky Way
Jumpin Jack Flash
Enchanted Teacups
Carousel
Houdini's Escape
Jolly Roger
Spinnaker
Skull Mountain
Blackbeard's Treasure Train
Buccaneer
Twister
Parachute Tower
Escape from Dino Island, 3D
Space Shuttle
GASM
Saw Mill Log flume
Runaway Train
Medusa
Viper
Rolling Thunder
Rodeo Stampede
Taz Twister

Now, that is 36 rides. However, there are 19 rides in Bugs Bunny Land. These include the Looney Carousel, the Bugs Bunny train, and other small family rides.
Which brings us up to 56. Also, there is Looney Tunes seaport. Here, we have:
The Poland Spring Plunge
Pepe Le Pews Tunnel of Love
Sylvesters Pounce and Bounce
Koala Canyon

Thats 59. I know there are more rides in LTS, if someone can help me out here.
And finally, we have the pay rides. Pay rides are rides, in that you pay extra to ride them. You also pay to ride every other ride in the park, by purchasing an admission. The reason CP doesn't count them, is because their pay rides are in the challenge park, which is "Technically" not a part of CP. SF likes to offer these rides in their central midways, so that more people are inticed (sp) by them. They're rides in my book.
Pay rides include:
Dare Devil Dive
Alcatraz: the ride
Great American Road Race
Turbo Force
(What happened to Thrill Shot?!)
With those, we have 63. I know that once someone helps me out with LTS, we will have 70 rides on our hands.

How much more floorless can they get?

It's just marketing, Cedar Point has more rides than that I'm pretty sure (not being a fan boy, but that is just who used to have the most rides.)

So they probibly DO have more rides then any other park. I knew they used to make that claim but I wasn't sure now that some have been removed.

The last I heard, they still don't run all of their rides.

68 RIDES AT CP NOT COUNTING CHALLENGE PARK OR SOAK CITY.

I'm hardly a SF fan but it would be hysterical if after you guys sort this out that they do have more rides than any other park - especially since so many got so annoyed by the claim (which I still say is simply a marketing line regardless of truth).

It's really not that big of a deal. I'm not sure number of rides equates enjoyment on any level.

But be honest here...suppose you went out and bought something because the company said it was "the best" there was and when you got it, it was far from the truth?

It's the same thing...a comapny making a false claim that they have indeed the most rides when in truth, they don't.

I believe there was a thread yelling and screaming about X being pulled from SFMM website because of "false advertising" and "misleading" because the ride wasn't operating. Isn't this the same thing?

While many of us don't care how many rides they have, it is still MISLEADING.

Example, Sunny Delight has to change their labels because they were going to be sued by Florida Citris Growers because they had a sun on their label and said that the product was 100% fruit juice, when in fact it only has less then 5%..they were told the product was falsely being advertised as Orange Juice or an orange juice product and that was misleading to the consumer. So by this October, the labels will be changed.

SF should do the same thing and change their marketing..they are NOT the biggest park, they don't have the most rides on the planet ( working or non-working) and if this was the case, CP wouldn't hold the record. End of discussion!

BTW..thanks for the list of rides!

You're right, Lord Gonchar. On my ONE visit I had to CP, I had more fun then a whole season at sfgadv. Number of rides doesn't constitute whether or not the park is better.

I may go to sf a lot, but that doesn't mean i think it's great (should we call that, themeparkcentrism?).

I really do think that pay rides should be included, since they ARE rides. That pushes cp up to only 71. But, lets not get too far into this.

How much more floorless can they get?

Pretty sad how some people get bent out of shape over adverts, its time for some people to get out and not spend there time complaining about something so trivial.

Why don't upcharge attractions cost. There rides.

Can't these advertisements get real? I saw the MiA one the other day, with Soak City in it!

Who can go a whole day at MiA riding Timbers ONCE? Repeat after me: "I hate parent chaperones"

Coastermom, you definitely have some beef with Great Adventure, and I find it hilarious that you try to degrade them whenever you can. I made the list some time ago, you can search if you want to find it. Also, you can write and ask them for a guide which lists all their rides.
Lord Gonchar's avatar

I have to agree with SFGAdv man - upcharge rides are still rides, they should count.

As far as misleading or false advertising - all ads bend the truth, the idea is to sell you on the product.

Even if they don't have the most rides (and they just might) how many would really notice? You'd never be able to ride everything on the least busy of days, nor would it affect your enjoyment of the park. How many people really look at the SFGAdv website and and put off any other plans or change plans or decided to visit SFGAdv because of one line that's only used once on the entire website (As far as I could tell).

Then out of those people how many get there and say, "Well that's it! I want a refund this park clearly doesn't have the most rides of any park on the planet"

Not too many. I'd imagine I could visit SFGAdv every day this year and not once would I hear that complaint.

Be realistic.

And, coastermom who says CP holds the record? Cedar Point? Isn't that exactly what you're blaming SFGADv for doing? Why do you believe CP but not SF?

(my apologies if their is some "official" record kept and I missed it, but the only place I ever heard this useless statistic spouted was the CP site...and now the SF site)
