Big Dipper Sold

I would like to thank this forum, this has been much more civilized and more positive then another forum that this was posted on. I am not that much of coaster fan that if it rides again or not, it is not the end of the world, but the fact that Kat and her (for lack of terms) business partner(s) are taking a chance on it, good.

I have heard of some of her ideas about the ride, but her first priority is to get it off Cedar Fair land. Then work on erecting it someplace else. I wish I could help (come on Mega Millions ticket tonight).

Kick bootie! This is great news, can't wait to ride Big Dipper again :)

Billy

This is a very interesting and entirely unanticipated next chapter in the saga of Big Dipper. All the luck to these intrepid good-doers.

I don't know of this "Kat" person, so to me, so far, it's very much the same kind of situation.

I respect Dave more than...whoever it was on here who knew the previous owner, I forget now, but that doesn't keep me from thinking that this is the same old thing over again.

Someone please explain, if you will, what gives people less of a reason to talk negative about "Kat" than the last guy. Is it just because Dave is her friend?

Not trying to be argumentative or anything. I just don't get why everyone is giving this "Kat" person a break when they didn't with the mysterious other guy. It's confusing.

How much did "Kat" pay for it? What are her plans? Is she willing to give it away, like a donation, or will she sell it at her cost, or will she try and profit from it? What is going on? :p If people moaned and groaned about the last owner, because they didn't have answers to these kinds of questions, than why not now?

And just know, because this post sound way meaner than I intended it to, that I wish "Kat" luck, and even though I really didn't care for Big Dipper, and believe that no park will want to buy it at any price, I do wish her and her business partner the best of luck.

(And just who is this "Business Partner, and why would calling him or her a business partner be "for lack of better words", by the way? Did I just miss something?)

There. That should get the topic rolling along. :)

But, but, she's got her own website set up. Therefore this must be legit. The internet never lies, does it?

It is an awesome website, too!

Hi

DOH! I just realized that instead of clicking Dave's link, I moved onto the replies. (Smacks forehead)

Let me be slightly useful here and add this link to a news story about the topic.

Kat is good personal friend of mine, that should be enough for you, LK. ;)

I have also known of Harold for a little while.

They are working on getting a better website.

Yes, but the true test will be if Jerry is willing to accept her as a friend. He tends to be a lot more picky from what I've read. ;)

As far as I know, he may have already done so! :)

The 3-5 million is what I anticipate the entire project costing including the land and other facilities. About 1/2 of that is for the coaster. So the cost of opening up a FEC with a new coaster would be in the 8-1 million range and would not have the value of the nostalgia. I was in like for Prowler last year and heard a GP talking about the old wooden coaster that they were about to get on. So I don't think there would necessarily be any gain from of a new ride over a historic one.

Travis, I think the first thing that is different is that Kat is a real person and is willing to publicly stick her neck out waiting for the community to try to chop it off.

As to the site, I would give her a break on that. The deal went through 2 days ago and to actually have any site up is again saying that this is not a hidden deal. I have a feeling when you meet Kat you will fall in see what Andy & I see in her.

Maybe it can find a new home at State Showcase Funpark.

This is very good news here. I think that Kat and her group should get all the support they need. They are taking it upon themselves to do something good here. Thank you Kat and Harold.

Dave, I don't post on Negative-G, so if you get the chance tell Kat there's one unemployed NE Ohioan who will be happy to help with the manual labor part...

I'll have to meet this Kat first... run her credit, do a background check... The usual psychotic stalker type of stuff....

Really, LK? I don't know how you can say you aren't being argumentative and then end your post in this way. And is it necessary to put Kat's name in quotes? Do you have reason to think that's not her name? Come on.

I didn't agree with the other guy getting bashed personally, either, so I certainly don't think Kat should be. But I do think there's a big difference between the two. The other person was anonymous and speaking through a third party and acting like a victim. That's annoying.

So far, Kat is being transparent and owning this action for what it is. She gets my respect for that even if I don't agree with the action.

I guess we'll see what happens. It's interesting, anyway.

Transparency goes a long way toward credibility. Just suggesting that it needs to be dismantled and stored is more of a plan than the anonymous schmuck had.

If they get it moved and into storage, at least that will rule out demolition by disgruntled owners (or Cedar Fair). That's step one.

Why would anyone bash this person for trying to save it? It's her right to purchase the coaster as much as it is anybody else's. She would be totally within her rights to make a bunch of toothpicks out of it.

If someone has a problem with her buying it or with what she may or may not do with it, then they why didn't they go ahead and buy it themselves. Barring that, it's not their decision what happens to it.

Strange that the original poster even has to request that people don't bash her, except that he must know how much people seem to enjoy doing that around here. Perhaps the site should be renamed CoasterBash.

I was really trying to be a Gonch. Miserable attempt, I know.

Good for her. I don't know why anyone would want to save it, but apparently there are some people who actually liked the thing, so I'm all for it.

My quotes around Kat's name was another way of saying that I don't know anything about her. I forgot to click the website in Dave's first post before moving down to read the rest of the page, so I didn't understand that that was really her name. Now that I've visited the Big Dipper site, and have seen her name sourced there, I will refrain from using the quotes.

I was just asking the questions that I considered needed to be addressed, while not really being entirely serious.

My "There. That should get the topic rolling along" was another way of saying " ;) " .
